The Ashen Crown did not crumble.

It inhaled.

Where endless drifts of gray once smothered the land in silent ruin, faint veins of molten gold now pulsed beneath the fractured earth. They moved like arteries under skin—slow, deliberate, alive. Each glow flared and dimmed in steady rhythm, as though the dead kingdom had found a heartbeat and chosen, stubbornly, to continue.

The broken spire still speared the sky.

But it no longer radiated decay.

It radiated warning.

Ethan stood at the base of the shattered tower, frostfire coiling low around his shoulders in restrained arcs of pale blue and silver. The cold flame did not burn the ash beneath him. It stabilized it. Strengthened it. Claimed it.

The air tasted different here now.

Charged.

Watching.

The System pulsed in the back of his mind, steady as a second pulse.
