Chapter 49: The Clash Beneath the Splitting Sky
Noah arrived near Amazon Lily like a silent continent drifting across the Calm Belt. The Sea Kings that inhabited those windless waters rose one after another, their colossal heads emerging from the depths as if answering an ancient call. One by one, they bowed toward Shirahoshi, their voices echoing through the ocean in reverent harmony.
Yamato blinked in disbelief as another Sea King surfaced, lowering its massive head respectfully. Shirahoshi fidgeted beside Ren, her fingers nervously twisting together as she whispered, "I… I still can't get used to this."
The silhouette of Amazon Lily became visible on the horizon, its towering cliffs and dense jungle rising proudly from the sea. Yamato's Observation Haki flared suddenly, her eyes sharpening as she glimpsed a fragment of the future. A grin spread across her face as she tightened her grip on her kanabo.
Without warning, she launched herself toward Amazon Lily.
Shirahoshi gasped. "Eh? Yamato-san?!"
Ren merely sighed, shaking his head. "Those girls…" he muttered before looking toward Shirahoshi. "Tell the Sea Kings to move away from her path."
Shirahoshi quickly nodded and relayed the command. The Sea Kings retreated instantly, clearing the waters ahead as Yamato sprinted forward.
Ren's body expanded until he matched Shirahoshi's towering height. He wrapped an arm around her waist, lifting her securely as the ark rocked from the sudden burst of Conqueror's Haki in the distance. Shirahoshi flushed deeply at the unexpected closeness.
"Don't get distracted," Ren said seriously. "Watch what's going to happen clearly."
Her thoughts scattered in embarrassment, but she forced herself to focus. Yamato was running across the surface of the sea, and wherever her feet touched, the water froze solid, forming a path of glistening ice.
She swung her kanabo downward, releasing waves of frost that spread for kilometers. The Calm Belt, once known for its stillness, transformed into a frozen battlefield.
Yamato stopped and looked toward Amazon Lily. Slowly, she raised her kanabo as Conqueror's Haki surged around it, infused with Internal Destruction-level Armament. The air trembled under the pressure.
From Amazon Lily, a black blur shot forward like a thunderbolt wrapped in blood-red lightning. Hancock's figure became visible mid-air, her leg descending with terrifying precision.
Yamato grinned wildly. "There you are!"
She swung her kanabo upward.
Hancock's kick came down, wrapped in Conqueror's infusion and Internal Destruction-level Haki. Their never touched. The collision of their wills exploded between them.
The sky split violently above their clash. Wind howled outward, pushing back the sea itself as cracks spread across the frozen surface. Even Noah trembled in the aftermath.
Shirahoshi's eyes widened in awe. "This… this is the strength of a true strong in the sea?"
Ren's voice was calm beside her. "You still have a long way to go."
Only then did she realize why he had grabbed her earlier. The shockwave would have thrown her straight into the sea if not for his hold. She bit her lip before whispering softly, "Thank you for catching me."
She leaned forward and gave his cheek a quick peck, her face turning pink. Ren smirked and returned the gesture on both her cheeks.
Shirahoshi squeaked, her entire face flushing red down to her neck. "Stupid Ren!" she muttered, though she didn't leave his embrace.
Out on the frozen sea, Hancock landed gracefully, her eyes gleaming with admiration. "You really have something," she said. "No wonder you fought three All-Stars and Who's Who alone."
Yamato twirled her kanabo once. "You aren't bad yourself. So, want to continue or stop here?" Her eyes burned with battlelust.
Hancock laughed lightly. "You truly are that infamous Kaido's daughter. They say he's battle-crazy as well."
Yamato grinned. "Love for battle runs in our blood."
Hancock's gaze sharpened. "Then let's have a proper match. I haven't had fun in a while. But keep it under control. I don't want to affect Amazon Lily—and that shameless guy is still waiting."
Yamato laughed. "Yap, some warm-up it is then!"
They charged again, this time suppressing their Conqueror's Haki. Their strikes were coated purely in Internal Destruction-level Armament—advanced Ryou that never allowed their weapons to touch.
As their attacks collided mid-air, Hancock spoke casually, "So what do you think about him?"
Yamato blinked mid-swing. "What?"
"Ren," Hancock clarified, delivering a swift kick that Yamato blocked. "What do you think about him?"
Yamato grinned awkwardly. "Well… he's my best friend."
Hancock frowned slightly as she deflected another strike. "Just friends?"
Yamato's movements faltered for half a second. "I… I don't understand love and complicated feelings."
Hancock's expression softened, though her attacks never slowed. "Do you want to stay with him?" she asked. "Does your heart beat faster when he's around? Do you feel safe near him? Do you want to keep laughing and living with him? Does it feel good when he hugs you? When he gets possessive?"
Yamato's face turned bright red as she parried another strike. After a moment of honest thought, she nodded. "Yes."
Hancock smiled knowingly. "Then that is love. Love doesn't need to be complicated. As long as you feel it, it's enough."
Yamato sent Hancock sliding back across the ice with a powerful swing. "Then why are you telling me that? Don't you love him?"
Hancock looked mildly irritated. "Of course I do. That bastard even fucked me."
Yamato nearly slipped on the ice. "Y-You—how can you say that with a straight expression?!"
Hancock simply pointed toward Noah. Yamato followed her finger, and her eye twitched.
Ren was still holding Shirahoshi, occasionally pecking her cheeks as she shyly returned the gesture.
A vein popped on both Yamato's and Hancock's foreheads simultaneously.
"That damned bastard…" Yamato muttered.
"You got your answer?" Hancock asked flatly.
Yamato nodded slowly. Both of them muttered in unison, "Shameless bastard."
They looked at each other and nodded in silent agreement. The greeting was over.
Hancock withdrew first, leaping back toward Amazon Lily's shore. Yamato followed, the frozen sea cracking and melting behind her.
Seeing the clash conclude, Noah slowly approached the island's harbor under the guidance of the Sea Kings. The Kuja warriors lined the cliffs, stunned at the sight of the ancient ark and the Mermaid Princess who commanded monsters of the deep.
Shirahoshi watched nervously from Ren's side. "Will they accept us?"
Ren looked toward the island where Hancock stood waiting. "They already have."
As Noah settled near Amazon Lily, the air felt charged—not with hostility, but anticipation. The Calm Belt had witnessed a clash worthy of legends, and yet it ended not in destruction but in laughter, jealousy, and something quietly growing between warriors.
The sky above, once split by Conqueror's Haki, slowly stitched itself back together. But the echoes of that clash would linger in the hearts of those who felt it.
And somewhere between battle and affection, Yamato began to understand that love, like strength, was something forged—not feared.
