The sound of the splashing water was the only thing filling the room as the mood shifted instantly.
Keifer's booming laugh didn't just stop; it transformed into a low, vibrating hum that settled deep in his chest.
His eyes, which had been bright with fun, suddenly darkened, turning a heavy, molten gold.
He didn't say a word.
He simply stepped forward, moving directly into the freezing cascade of the rain-shower.
His white shirt immediately turned transparent, clinging to his broad shoulders and chest, revealing every muscle beneath.
Jay didn't move at first, her eyes locked onto his. She felt a sudden jolt of electricityāa silent challenge passing between them.
He took another step. Jay took one back, her slippers squeaking on the wet tile.
He stepped again, his gaze never leaving hers. It was like a dance.
She moved backward, step for step, her chin tilted up defiantly even as the water drenched her completely.
She wasn't the shy, scared girl from before; in this moment, under the cold water, she was matching his intensity.
Finally, her back hit the cold glass wall of the shower.
Keifer didn't stop. He moved in until he was inches away, his shadow completely covering her.
He raised his hand, slamming it against the glass right next to her head with a dull thud.
He bowed his head down to her level, their faces so close that they were breathing the same humid air.
Both of them were soaked to the bone, the water running down their faces in long, rhythmic droplets.
Slowly, almost painfully so, Keifer reached out. His fingers were warm against her cold skin as he tucked a stray, wet lock of hair behind her ear.
His touch lingered there, his thumb grazing the shell of her ear.
Jay's heart wasn't just a trampoline anymore; it was a drum. Her cheeks were flushed a deep, hot crimson that the cold water couldn't wash away.
Slowly, her hands rose, her palms pressing against his damp chest. She could feel the steady, heavy thud of his heart through the fabric, and the contact sent a violent shiver through Keifer's entire frame.
He didn't pull away. Instead, he leaned forward even more, his forehead almost touching hers.
Jay didn't push him. She didn't turn her head. She stayed right there, her fingers curling slightly into his wet shirt.
Keifer tilted his head, his gaze dropping to her lips before returning to her eyes, asking a silent question.
As he leaned in that final inch, Jay's long eyelashes fluttered and finally closed, her breath hitching in her throat as she waited for the world to disappear.
The steam from the water and the heat between them had made the world outside that glass stall completely vanish.
Their noses brushedāa light, electric touch that made Jay's breath hitch. Her hands, acting on a bold instinct she didn't know she had, slid up from his damp chest to his broad shoulders, her fingers digging into the wet fabric.
Keifer's hand moved from her hair to the sensitive skin of her neck, his thumb tracing her jawline with a possessive, heavy touch.
The world was about to stop. The kiss was a heartbeat away.
KNOCK.
KNOCK.
KNOCK.
The sound of knuckles hitting the bedroom door was like a gunshot.
Jay jumped as if she'd been struck by lightning. She pulled apart from him instantly, her face turning a shade of red that was almost purple.
The romantic fog cleared, replaced by a cold, soaking reality. She was drenched, her husband was drenched, and someone was at the door.
She scrambled to get out of the shower, her slippers splashing loudly. Just as she reached for the bathroom door to bolt into the bedroom, a firm, warm grip caught her wrist.
"Jay," Keifer whispered.
She turned, her eyes wide and glassy. He was still standing under the water, his white shirt clinging to every muscle, his hair pushed back.
He didn't look annoyed; he looked... intense. His eyes locked onto hers with a silent, burning promiseāa secret pact that said this isn't over.
"Come back soon," he added, his voice low and raspy.
Jay couldn't even find her voice to answer. She just gave a tiny, frantic nod and ran out.
She took one quick look at her dripping reflection in the vanity mirrorāshe looked like a drowned ratābut there was no time.
She just wiped her face with a towel, and cracked the bedroom door open.
It was Sophia.
"Sophia... u came back," Jay panted, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Yes! Aunt wasn't even home, only Uncle was there, so we canceled the plan to stay tonight," Sophia chirped, her eyes dancing with their usual mischief.
Then, she paused,
leaning in to squint at Jay.
"Wait... Jay, why are you drenched in water?
Is... ahh, is something naughty happening inside? Where is Keifer? Is he waiting in there?"
"No! No, no, no," Jay stammered, her hands flying up to wave the idea away.
"He's... he's not even here! He went for a walk. I was just... washing my feet and I slipped! The shower turned on by accident!"
Sophia raised a skeptical eyebrow, leaning against the doorframe.
"You sure? You look like you just went swimming in your clothes."
"Yeah! Of course! I'm just clumsy, you know that," Jay lied, her heart thumping against her ribs so hard she was sure Sophia could see it through the her wet t shirt.
"Oh," Sophia sighed, looking genuinely disappointed. "Then it's not a romantic moment? Huh, what a shame. I thought I walked in on something good."
She straightened up and waved a hand dismissively. "Anyway, I just came by to tell you we're back. I'm going to bed. Night!"
"Ok... night," Jay managed to squeak out.
She watched Sophia walk down the hall until her sister-in-law's door clicked shut.
Only then did Jay let out the breath she had been holding for what felt like an hour.
Her lungs burned, and her cheeks flared up with heat all over again.
She turned back toward the bathroom door, her hand trembling as she reached for the handle. Keifer was still in there. Waiting.
