Chapter 4 - Back to Earth

Shwck, Shwck

The boss attacked Roshan with its legs. He dodged them easily at the beginning.

"Something's off… a dungeon boss can't be this weak."

With each attack, it got more precise, and he had a harder time dodging. Roshan decided to go on the offensive.

"Plunge ×50."

He appeared above the boss.

"Plunge Drive."

When he hit the exoskeleton of the boss, it felt like hitting a metal plate. His hands vibrated during the clash. He stepped back.

"Fire ball."

It had zero effect.

He tried Shadow Strike — the same thing happened. He used Sand Manipulation to create spears and used them to attack, still no scratch.

Roshan decided to go for the gaps between its legs.

Just as he was about to attack its leg, the boss stretched one of its other legs and used it to attack Roshan. Before impact, he used Reinforcement. The damage was reduced to a minimal level due to Reinforcement.

[Regeneration has been impaired]

His wounds weren't healing. It was most likely that the boss had an ability that impaired healing.

Roshan had to continue attacking.

"Plunge ×100: Plunge Hyperdrive."

He slashed and slashed, all to no avail.

Just as he was preparing to launch another set of attacks, one of the Centipharon's legs emerged from beneath Roshan, piercing his skull.

He coughed up blood as he struggled to break free. Another leg pierced him in the abdomen.

Roshan's pupils dilated. His body stopped moving. The boss dropped his cold, lifeless body on the ground as it turned away.

[Revival activated]

Roshan's arm began to move as he clutched the sand and rose to his feet.

"I'm not done with you, eight-legged bastard."

[Overcomer activated]

Shwck, Shwck

The boss approached Roshan with terrifying speed.

"Flame Ball ×10 plus Flame Arrow ×5: Crimson Bullseye."

He shot a huge scorching arrow at Centipharon's body. The heat wave the arrow emitted melted the sand along its path.

It blew open a part of the boss's

exoskeleton. Roshan finally saw an opening.

"Plunge ×300 plus Shadow Strike ×5."

Centipharon attacked with desperation and fury, even spitting out poison from its mouth.

"Obscure Shadow."

All its attacks didn't reach him due to the effect of his ability. He approached the boss with incredible speed.

"Self technique: Dark Curve Crescent."

He attacked the exposed area of the boss with everything he got.

Centipharon's body turned bright red. It attacked Roshan with explosive attacks.

"You just won't die, huh?!"

Roshan dodged the boss's attacks.

"Shadow Strike ×50: Omega Slash!"

He summoned a huge amount of shadow energy in his dagger, letting it all out at once. The attack split the cave into two, along with Centipharon.

Roshan approached the corpse of the dead dungeon boss and tore the flesh of the boss with his bare hands, then gobbled it whole.

"Tasty…"

"It's nice and all, but it's nothing compared to my former strength."

He walked out of the cave.

[The dungeon boss has been killed]

[Exit portal has now been opened]

A portal burst forth in front of him.

"Finally, I get to leave this dull place."

Before he stepped through the portal, he activated Cloak to prevent any detection if there was anyone apart from him on the other side.

He stepped through the portal.

Roshan's eyes widened with pure surprise.

What lay on the other side were huge skyscrapers, cars speeding along the highway, massive advertisement boards, and humans going about their daily lives.

"So I'm back on Earth," he exclaimed.

He was disoriented by the sounds he hadn't heard in a while.

"Oh look, mummy! A portal just opened up."

A little girl was passing by with her mom.

Roshan had to leave quickly before it got crowded. The portal closed immediately after he left.

He ran toward a back alley. Cloak had just worn off.

"Hey mister, turn around slowly and hand over your wallet."

A thug approached him with a knife.

Roshan asked the thug if he had a wallet.

"It seems you don't care for life. I am a D-grade swordsman."

Roshan turned around.

"Ooooh, I'm super scared."

The thug gazed into Roshan's eyes and fell over in fear.

"I'm super sorry for troubling you, bro."

Roshan walked up to him and asked if he could explain the current happenings.

The thug's name was Tanaka. He told Roshan that dungeon portals were still appearing even though it had been 3000 years since their arrival on Earth.

Humanity had also grown a lot stronger through the development of technological weapons, which reduced the rate of casualties and dungeon breakouts.

The grading system had been upgraded with the addition of the SSS grade, and all champions were now managed by the Bannex Coop.

"Mr, you look like an SSS grade yourself. Though I don't know you, since there are currently only seven SSS-grade champions."

The thug left after nearly pissing his pants.

Roshan headed to the Bannex Coop for evaluation so he could be assigned to a guild.

The building was brimming with champions waiting to be tested. As expected, the Bannex Coop building was huge and extended for miles — literally an estate on its own.

He walked up to the receptionist to register for the test. Luckily for him, it was free.

"Please wait in line, sir. You will soon be called upon."

After waiting a while—

"Number 86, you have been called to testing."

A voice echoed from the speakers.

He entered the testing room and was asked to touch an orb.

He touched it, and it glowed violently.

"Class: Debuffer. Grade: S," a man standing behind a computer stated.

Headed for the guild signing session, he had two options: choose a guild or work as a freelancer and accept quests from Bannex.

He chose to be a freelance champion.

Without waiting long, he walked up to the quest board and checked the section for S-grade champions.

Quest: Clear an A-rank dungeon

Disclaimer: It is advised to form a party of four

"It seems you're interested in that quest too. Why don't we form a party?"

Rin walked toward Roshan.

"I'm Rina, an S-grade mage."

Roshan used Cosmic Eyes on her. She wasn't lying.

"Sure. I'm Roshan, an S-grade debuffer."

They agreed to enter the dungeon as a party of two — Roshan as support, Rina as the damage dealer.

They submitted the quest form at the reception.

"Are you sure just two of you are enough?" the receptionist asked.

"We are more than enough," Rina answered.

Rina ordered a taxi to take them to their destination. From her expensive robe and staff, it was obvious she was the daughter of some business tycoon.

"I'm guessing you're some big shot," Roshan said abruptly

Rina laughed.

She told him her father was the owner of Salvon Weaponries and Gadgets, a multi-billion-dollar company.

"The fact that I'm going to dungeons is my way of rebelling against my father."

They got out of the taxi.

"Be careful, sir and miss," the driver said before driving off.

They stood in front of the dungeon portal, which was blue.

"Let's get going."

They stepped through the portal.

It turned red immediately after they passed through it.

According to the circular passed by Bannex, red meant it was an S-grade dungeon.
