The Lost Vampire System Chapter 19 - The Mission

The next day had arrived, and it was almost time for the students to get up and have their breakfast. It had been their first night within their new school. An exciting thing for most or a frightful one. For Jareth it had been more of a frightful one because of what he was going through. They had a lot to do and explore on their last free day before classes started on Monday. The three boys were currently sleeping in their rooms when a knock was heard on the door.

"Guys?" a voice was heard on the other side of the door.

There was no response as the three boys kept on sleeping.

"I was just coming by to check up on my brother," the voice of Mia announced.

There was silence in the room besides a single loud snore that came from Henry.

I'll just come back later, Mia thought as she walked away from the room.

Right after that, Jareth began to stir as he shifted his body in his bed. His eyelids flickered open as he stared at the stream of light entering through the single window they had.

"Moring!" A cheerful voice in his head shouted.

Jareth's body reacted by shooting out of his bed, hitting the floor.

"Ow," Jareth moaned as he slowly got to his feet. "I completely forgot what happened."

"Sorry," Apollo's voice said sheepishly.

Jareth rubbed his eyes as he went to the bathroom, now wide awake. There was a room at the bottom right where the bathroom was located. He did his business, but when he washed his hands, he noticed blood and a hole in his shirt.

"Did you forget about that?" Apollo asked as Jareth took his shirt off showing his scrawny chest.

He exited the bathroom and noticed that Henry was outside waiting for him.

"Morning," Henry said.

"Morning," Jareth replied as he opened his suitcase for some clothes.

After Henry got in the bathroom Jareth changed into a generic t-shirt and jeans. When he was done, he threw his shirt into a trash chute that was at the back right of the room. Jareth smiled as he went to sit on his bed.

The system activated. "Midnight has passed. Your two quests have been reset. Quest one: stay out of sunlight for 10 hours. Quest two: Drink 1 gallon of water before midnight each day. 5 exp for each quest."

"You got daily quests," Apollo stated. "Interesting."

The system continued. "User: Jareth Nightshade. Race: Half-ling. Level 3. Exp: 35 of 80. HP (Health Points): 20 of 20. Strength: 12. Stamina: 12. Agility: 11. Dexterity: 5. Blood Energy: 15 of 35. Solar Points: 0 of 100."

"Half-ling?" Apollo asked. "What is a Half-ling? I thought you were a vampire."

"You don't know what a Half-ling is?" Jareth asked. "You know what a vampire is but not a Half-ling. Do they not exist?"

"They don't," Apollo replied. "When a vampire turns others, the rank of the turned is below them. Based on the name, I'm guessing you are part vampire and human, but then you should be called a dhampir, not a half-ling."

"What's a dhampir?" Jareth asked as he placed his backpack containing the egg on the bed.

"They are part human and vampire. Known as vampire hunters. Accidentally created by Draven centuries ago. They joined up with Draven when they figured out how to permanently suppress their lust to kill vampires. Something happened a little less than a century ago that I was not a part of: the fracture of the empire. Multiple little groups have formed that are barely hanging on. That story is not important but you're clearly not a dhampir."

"I am something new that was created by the system?" Jareth stated but he asked it more as a question.

"That's what I think," Apollo answered. "I think that if you can evolve then the people that you can turn later might be able to evolve."

Before Jareth could ask more questions, he heard his name being called.

"You're awake Jareth," Damion exclaimed sitting up in his bed. "You feel better from yesterday?"

The system jumped in. "Blood energy 14 of 35. Your lust is growing."

A pang was felt in his stomach as he clenched his gut leaning over.

"You, ok?" Damion asked, throwing his sheets to the side and getting out of bed.

"Yeah," the Half-ling replied, still holding on to his stomach. "Just hunger pains."

"Well then, let's go eat."

Jareth had not regretted saying anything so much.

Damion casually took off his shirt, and Jareth quickly averted his eyes.

"We're both guys," Damion said noticing Jareth. "It's not like I'm naked."

A moment later Damion finished changing, and Henry came out of the bathroom. The three left the room, going downstairs to eat. When they left the elevator, Mia was sitting there waiting for them.

"I thought you guys were never going to wake up," Mia stated sternly.

Henry gave a yawn like he wanted to go back to bed. Mia looked at Jareth up and down.

"You feel better?" she asked, her face full of worry.

"He's hungry," Damion stepped in rubbing his left eye. "At least that's what I think."

Actually—," Jareth tried to say but was interrupted when Madison came over.

"Finally, you guys are awake," Madison said like she had been waiting for eternity. "I was starting to get hungry.

"You could've eaten without us," Damion said with annoyance.

"Why are you annoyed at me?" Madison questioned, her lip twitching. "Jareth can have more than one friend, can he not?"

Damion gave a low scoff as he turned away, now taking a sudden interest in his fingernails.

"We should eat," Mia said grabbing her brother's hand, dragging him to the dining hall.

Jareth let himself be dragged along, followed by the rest. When they got to the dining hall, the group found a pentagon-shaped table, placing their drinks down on their way over. As usual, Henry rushed off as if he were starving. Mia and Damion walked ahead as well, while Jareth walked slower alongside Madison.

"I can't eat anything, Jareth thought in a panic. If I do, I will probably throw up again. What should I do? They'll be expecting me to eat something. I could pretend to but I think that might be hard.

Jareth opened up his system to see if anything could be done about it. He only had three skills, quests, and everything else was locked.

"You, ok?" the voice of Madison asked.

Jareth quickly closed his system screen only to see that he was face-to-face with Madison. It turned out he had subconsciously stopped walking when he opened the system. Madison noticed this and waved her hand in front of him, but it did nothing. She then put her face close to him, but there was still no reaction. So, she just decided to ask him what was wrong.

"Nothing," Jareth said. "Just thinking."

Madison's eyes started to become lightly smoky.

What did the system say she was? Jareth thought. He quickly opened the system, and this time he was paying attention behind the slightly translucent screen. Let's see what she is, the Half-ling thought.

"Skill activated," the system announced. "Appraisal. Name: Madison Budak. Race: Cambion. Evolved power: none. A child of a human and a demon who possesses a rare demonic transformation skill. She also has stronger hearing then most Cambion. Upgrade your Appraisal skill to see more."

"A Cambion," Apollo said. "It's been a while since I have heard of one moving around. She's clearly lost and most likely has no one. Getting her as an ally for our cause will be a great benefit."

Jareth projected this thought to Apollo. "It also said that she has no evolved power. She lied on the process to get in here."

"I take it that she has something on you," Apollo stated. "Now you have something on her. It's a double blackmail which, dealt with carefully, can cause the two of you to trust each other in the end. The other possibility is that it could end badly."

Jareth closed the screen, now knowing that if she were not to be an ally, it might harm them.

I am in her debt, Jareth thought. If there is a way I can get her to join me and keep my secret from getting out, it will be a great help. I now have multiple missions that I should do.

The system apparently agreed. "New Quest Received: Gain the Cambion as an ally without exposing yourself to anybody else. Rewards will be given based on how you get her to be your alley."

Well, the Half-ling smiled. Now's the chance.
