The Lost Vampire System Chapter 57 - Nothing Here
"Well," Madison said as she shook her head. "I'm awake."
"Yeah, no kidding," Jareth agreed as he pulled the sword off his back. "I wonder if this has any cool abilities."
Jareth appraised the sword, and it displayed a lot of information, including a lot of yapping that didn't matter. What he did notice was that the sword was a Simple High Tier weapon with one active skill. The only active skill was that when he swung the sword in a wide arc, it could send out a sharp sword-energy slash that could travel up to ten feet.
I guess that's good, the Vampiric thought as he carefully placed the backpack down and then jumped back and activated the power of the sword through the system.
Jareth swung the sword in a wide arc, and as he swung, a line of energy streaked out and went ten feet before vanishing, making a loud cutting sound. The people around the three stopped to look at what Jareth had just done.
"Right off the bat," one kid muttered. "How?"
"I think that's his own sword," a girl muttered.
"Dang," Emma said. "Did you already know what the sword did?"
Jareth paused before answering.
"No, I didn't. It was just a feeling."
"A feeling?" Emma asked, raising her left eyebrow. "A feeling of just jumping back and swinging in a wide arc, yes?"
"Yes," Jareth said, acting like he had done it out of impulse.
"That was nice," a voice said from the side.
The three turned their heads to see that Major Ethan was next to them.
"Impressive. I was just coming over here to show you that. That sword took me a moment to figure out. Now I have to show you, Madison."
"Why are you showing favoritism to them?" Emma asked.
Ethan turned his head to look at her and frowned.
"I'm showing these two how to use my weapons," he said, as if it were no big deal, and his frown vanished. "I can help you right after, if you want. After all, it's my job."
Emma kept looking at Ethan before she nodded. Ethan smiled as he focused on Madison. Jareth didn't really pay attention to the two, as he was focusing on fighting imaginary people with his sword.
"Sword has finished its cooldown," the system said.
Jareth raised one of his eyebrows, and he swung the sword. An arc of energy traveled ten feet.
Nice, the Vampiric thought.
Something happened next to Jareth as both Madison and Ethan smiled.
"You figured it out," Major Ethan congratulated Madison. "It took me longer than it took you to figure it out."
Jareth turned his head to see that Madison's two sword sickles were glowing orange. Jareth smiled, seeing that she too had figured it out, and she looked at Jareth with a big smile on her face as Ethan went over to Emma.
"This is so cool," Madison said as she swung her two sword sickles slowly over Jareth's head. "I should be good for the expedition now."
Jareth nodded as he lifted his sword up toward her, and she smiled as they started to practice. Their weapons clashed as the class continued.
Time passed, and eventually Ethan left Emma as he quickly went around to help other students.
"He's good," Emma said as she pointed her crossbow at Jareth before pointing it in the air. "We should be good for the hunt tomorrow. Well, as long as the planet is dark because of your…condition."
Jareth paused for a moment with a confused expression on his face, as if he didn't understand what she had said. He then quickly changed his expression to sadness, as if she had reminded him of a son he had lost long ago.
"Don't remind me," Jareth said. "I still need to get an umbrella."
"There's always some on the way out of our dorm building," Madison said. "Someone had already lost one."
"Thanks for that," Jareth said just as the bell rang, signaling lunch.
Jareth picked up his backpack with little Sophia, and the three of them left the Becifer weapons class as they headed over to their dorm building to have lunch. When they arrived at the entrance, Jareth went to a little umbrella stand and took a plain black umbrella. He placed the umbrella over some rope straps that were on the back of his backpack before wiping the sweat off his head, as he again had been weakened by the sun.
They walked into the cafeteria, and it was as busy as usual, but everyone who was in the Generic Evolved class, except for a few, was missing as they were eating at their class building.
"Jareth!" the voice of his sister said as Jareth turned around to see her.
"You always see me first," Jareth complained as his sister hugged him.
"How adorable," Madison muttered as she continued walking toward the table.
"Let's see if we can sit at the same table as last time," Damion said from behind Mia as Jareth let go.
"Hello, Damion," Jareth said. "You're still teaching the three of them?"
Damion smiled. "Of course. Just don't get into a fight, as I only have three level 1 Evolved powers. Well, I guess maybe two because of my power."
"I hope not," Jareth said as they followed Madison, who only had an apple and a sandwich on her plate.
She went to sit at the round table they had sat at last time. Jareth didn't get much, as he hoped to slip the food to Madison again. When they were all done, they went and sat at the table Madison was at. The group consisted of Jareth, Mia, Damion, Emma, Madison, and Keira.
The group started to eat, and Damion quickly gobbled down his food faster than Henry, as if they were competing. Damion finished before Henry, and he began to tell the group some advice.
"As you guys know, the expedition is tomorrow," Damion began. "Our huge group will be separated into my group of six and Mia's group of five. I don't know how far we will be, but if we happen to come into contact, we can once again join groups like what we've been doing. The problem is that we are technically still competing, but our group of eleven should deter the potential stronger groups. If you see a girl out there named Arden, she is our friend, but I can't say the same for her group. We don't have any plans of meeting, so don't go looking for her."
"Who's Arden?" Mia asked.
"Friends with Jareth," Damion said. "That's not important now, but what is important is our group doing well for the competition. We shouldn't be doing any dungeon dives on this trip, so you don't need to worry about that. We will be collecting Becifer crystals, like our teacher Carl said. The most wins. We don't need to win, but we don't want to be on the bottom. That's just a call to get bullied. Now, who needs something? I'm willing to buy."
The group spent the next fifteen minutes talking with Damion. The ones who didn't have weapons were the three that Damion was training: Mia, Henry, and Keira. At first, the three didn't want anything, but Damion told them that it would only be three to four hundred dollars for each of them. Their eyes widened, as this was a lot to them, but Damion just said that killing three Simple Tier Becifers later would cover the cost, adding that they would have no debt to begin with. A minute later, the three accepted. Now they were just discussing what to buy, as Damion was in the marketplace.
