A girl called me
like a storm in spring
sudden, sharp,
laced with the scent of lies
i didnʼt know iʼd been breathing.
And you told her too.
Of course you did.
Not a lover.
Not a mistake.
Not even a secret worth hiding.
just
a goddamn
friend.
She asked questions
like bullets̶
"how long have you known him?"
"did he ever tell you about me?"
"who are you?"
I froze.
Months of midnights
came crashing down̶
your jacket around me,
your voice in my ear,
your hand tracing mine
like promises unspoken.
"Iʼm just his friend,"
i said.
And the words
tasted like poison.
She said
sheʼs been your girlfriend
for two fucking years.
And me?
i was your friend.
The one who watched you sleep.
The one who listened to every
what-should-i-wear
and can-i-call-you-later.
The one you smiled at
like i was the sunrise
you never deserved.
But still̶
just a fucking friend.
