Chapter 1 - Wedding crash & more

Chapter 1: WeddingCrash

Alex dodged a bouquet and a tipsy guest at the posh Riverside wedding, laughing as she adjusted her flower crown. As a florist, she'd created the venue's stunning arrangements – peonies and eucalyptus spilling like art. Now, she needed a break.

Heading to the bar, Alex bumped into a sharp-suited arm. "Sorry!" she said, looking up into piercing blue eyes.

Jamie, event planner extraordinaire, raised an eyebrow at the wildflower dress. "You're…the florist?"

Alex smiled. "Guilty. You're…the uptight planner?"

Tension sparked. The DJ cued "Perfect." Jamie said, "Guess we're stuck working together."

Alex laughed. "Sounds like a plan…if you can handle a little chaos."

Jamie's gaze lingered. "I can handle anything."

Just then, the bride rushed over, panic-straded. "Jamie – the cake's missing! And Alex…I swore you delivered it."

Alex froze. Jamie's eyes narrowed. "You didn't subcontract the cake?"

Uh-oh. Looks like sparks and secrets are brewing 😏

Chapter 2: Missing Cake Crisis*

Alex's face fell. "I didn't order a cake. I thought you...?"

Jamie's eyes narrowed further. "I hired you for flowers. The client handled food."

The bride, Sophie, looked fraught. "Guys, focus! Wedding in 30 minutes."

Quick thinking, Alex jumped in. "I have an idea. My shop's got extra blooms. We can whip up a 'floral cake' – faux tiers with roses and greenery. Fast."

Jamie raised an eyebrow. "Genius. Let's do it."

As they sprinted to Alex's shop, tension turned to teamwork. Jamie rolled up sleeves, helping chop and arrange. Sophie squealed over the mock-cake.

It worked. The wedding guests oohed. Alex and Jamie shared a look – grudging respect, and sparks.

But as the night ended, Jamie's client (Alex's ex) appeared, whispering in Jamie's ear. Alex's smile faltered.

"Ethan's your client?" Alex asked coolly, stepping back.

Jamie nodded, expression unreadable. "He wants a big gala next month. I need your floral help."

Alex felt a jolt – Ethan had broken her heart. "I don't work with him."

Ethan smirked. "Alex, don't be petty. Jamie needs your magic."

Jamie's gaze locked on Alex's. "I'll handle it. We'll talk tomorrow."

Alex nodded curtly, grabbing her things. As she left, Jamie caught her wrist. "Hey. Not about the job. About…you okay?"

Alex pulled free, pulse racing. "I'm fine."

Jamie let go, eyes cr crling at the corners. "Tomorrow. 10 AM. My office."

Alex nodded, escaping into the night. On her drive home, her phone buzzed.

Jamie: "You were amazing tonight. Even with Ethan."

Alex smiled despite herself.

Chapter 3: Office Hours

Alex arrived at Jamie's sleek office, nerves buzzing. Why had she agreed to meet?

Jamie greeted her with coffee. "Thanks for coming. About Ethan's gala…"

Alex shrugged. "I said I don't work with him."

Jamie's eyes locked on hers. "I canceled his event. Told him I wouldn't work without you."

Alex blinked. "Why?"

"You're talented. And…I want to work with you." Jamie leaned in. "Plus, Ethan's hiding something. If he's using me to get to you…"

Alex's pulse skipped. No one'd ever stood up for her like that.

Just then, Jamie's phone buzzed. Ethan. Jamie answered loudspeaker:

"Jamie, fix this! I want Alex's flowers or the contract's void."

Alex tensed. Jamie smiled coolly. "Sorry, Ethan. Alex is my partner now. Deal with it."

The line cut. Alex stared. "Partner?"

Jamie's grin turned sheepish. "Guess I just made us business partners. For the gala."

Alex laughed, feeling…seen. "Okay. Partners."

As they hashed out details, their legs brushed under the table. Tensions simmered. Jamie leaned closer, voice low:

"Want to grab dinner? Discuss…partnerships?"

Alex's heart skipped. "Sure. But no business talk."

Jamie's smile widened. "Deal."

Dinner at a tiny bistro. Wine flowed. Conversation sparked. No business mentioned.

As they walked out, Jamie caught her hand. "Partners…in crime?"

Alex didn't pull away.

Just as things felt perfect, a figure appeared in the shadows.

"Jamie…I think we need to talk."

Alex's eyes narrowed. The voice…

It was Mia, Jamie's ex-fiancée. Beautiful, poised…with a wrecking ball smile.

Jamie's grip on Alex's hand tightened. "Mia. Now's not a good time."

Mia's gaze flicked to Alex, then back. "This won't wait."

Alex felt a jolt. "I'll…go."

Jamie hesitated, then nodded. "I'll walk you home."

Chapter 4: Shadows*

Jamie watched Alex vanish into the night, then turned to Mia. "What do you want?"

Mia's smile faltered. "We need to talk about the gala. I'm helping Ethan."

Jamie's eyes narrowed. "You know he's trouble. Why?"

Mia stepped closer. "He's changed. And…I owe him."

A flicker of pain crossed Jamie's face. "You still protecting him?"

Mia's gaze dropped. "Just…be careful, Jamie. Ethan's playing to win."

Jamie snorted. "I'm not the one in danger."

As they parted, Jamie's phone buzzed. Alex.

Alex: "Got home safe. You okay?"

Jamie smiled. "Yeah. Just…Mia drama."

Alex: "Ex-fiancée = drama 😬"

Jamie laughed. "Yep. See you tomorrow?"

Next morning, Jamie arrived at Alex's shop. Sunbeams danced with blooms. Alex appeared, apron-tied.

"We need to talk," Jamie said, low.

Alex raised an eyebrow. "About?"

"Mia. She's involved with Ethan. Be careful."

Alex's expression turned thoughtful. "I can handle Ethan."

Jamie leaned closer. "I know. But…I want to handle _you_."

Alex's pulse jumped. Jamie's breath on her skin…

The shop door jolted open. A customer. Alex blinked, stepping back.

Jamie grinned wickedly. "Later."

As Jamie left, Alex's phone buzzed.

Ethan: "Meet me. Now. About the gala."

Alex frowned. What game was he playing?

She texted back: "My shop. 2 PM."

At 2 PM, Ethan strolled in, Mia trailing. Alex stiffened.

Ethan smiled. "Alex, darling. Business."

Mia lingered by the door, watching.

Alex folded arms. "What do you want?"

Ethan leaned in. "I want you to design the gala. And…I want you to forgive me."

Forgive him? Alex's heart hardened.

"I don't forgive," Alex said coolly. "And I won't design for you."

Ethan's smile twisted. "Jamie said—"

Alex cut him off. "Jamie's not here. And I said no."

Mia stepped forward, eyes flashing. "Ethan, maybe we should—"

Ethan waved her off. "Fine. Alex, you'll regret this."

As he stormed out, Mia lingered. "Alex…be careful."

The door closed. Alex exhaled.

Jamie's voice echoed in her head: "Be careful."

Suddenly, her phone buzzed again.

Jamie: "Hey, want to grab coffee?"

Alex smiled. "Definitely."

They met at a cozy café. Jamie's eyes sparkled.

"So…Ethan visited?" he asked, sipping latte.

Alex raised an eyebrow. "How'd you know?"

Jamie leaned in. "Mia texted me. Said Ethan was 'handling it'."

Alex snorted. "Yeah. He 'handled' getting rejected."

Jamie's gaze turned serious. "Alex, Ethan's not done. And…I have a plan."

Alex's heart skipped. "What plan?"

Jamie smiled slyly. "Let's crash the gala."

Alex's eyes widened. "As…what?"

Jamie's grin widened. "As guests. We'll show Ethan we're not afraid."

Alex laughed, thrill buzzing. "Okay. Let's do it."

As they clipped hands, sealing the plan, Jamie's phone buzzed again.

Mia: "Jamie, we need to talk. NOW."

Jamie's jaw cliked. "Guess my ex isn't done."

As Alex walked off, Mia stepped closer. "So, you're the florist."

Jamie's jaw cliked. "Mia, what do you want?"

Mia's smile turned sly. "I want to talk about…us. And the gala."

Jamie sighed, rubbing his temples. "Mia, I'm done. We agreed to move on."

Mia laughed low. "Oh, Jamie. You don't get to decide that."

Alex, pausing at the corner, felt a shiver. Something felt off.

Jamie turned, spotted Alex lingering. "I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"

Alex nodded, disappearing into the night.

Now Jamie's alone with Mia…

Chapter 5: Masquerade*

The gala night arrived, twilight draping the mansion in drama. Alex, in a stunning crimson gown, fisted Jamie's arm. "We're insane."

Jamie, dashing in a tux, grinned. "Best kind of crazy."

They slipped into the masquerade ball, masks hiding identities. The room pulsed—Ethan's elite guests mingled, oblivious to the foxes in their midst.

Mia spotted them, eyes narrowing behind her mask. "Jamie. Interesting choice of date."

Jamie smiled coolly. "Alex isn't a choice. She's the partner."

Ethan approached, suave. "Welcome, guests. Though I didn't peg you as his type, Alex."

Alex laughed, low. "You don't know me, Ethan."

The night swirled—music, champagne, hidden agendas. Jamie leaned to Alex. "Found what I was looking for."

Alex followed his gaze. Ethan, laughing with investors…a shady businessman hovered nearby.

"Who's that?" Alex whispered.

Jamie's eyes locked on the man. "Victor Laurent. Ruins businesses for fun. Ethan's deal with him…it's dirty."

Alex's grip on Jamie's arm tightened. "We need proof."

As they watched, Ethan handed Victor a folder. Jamie's phone buzzed—Mia.

Mia: "Look up. NOW."

Alex followed Jamie's gaze UP—to a hidden balcony. Ethan stood, phone aimed at THEM.

"He's recording us," Jamie growled.

The music died. Ethan's voice echoed:

"Ladies and gentlemen…meet my new partners. Jamie and Alex."

The crowd turned. Masks hid nothing—Ethan's triumph was clear.

"Guess we're exposed," Jamie murmured.

Alex yanked off her mask. "Time to play."

With a wink, she strode to Ethan. "Darling, I think it's showtime."

Ethan's grin faltered. "Alex, what—"

Alex leaned in, voice sugary. "You want drama? Let's give them drama."

She kissed Jamie. Hard.

The room gasped. Ethan's face purpled.

Jamie's surprise turned to fire. Alex pulled back, breathless.

"Guess we're out," she whispered.

The crowd erupted—gasps, cheers, Ethan's furious shout:

"Get them out!"

Security closed in. Jamie grabbed Alex's hand. "Time to go."

They sprinted through the chaos, laughter bubbling. Out in the night, Alex spun to Jamie.

"That kiss…"

Jamie's eyes burned. "Was perfect."

Alex's smile turned sly. "Totally perfect."

As they paused, catching breaths…Jamie's phone buzzed.

Victor Laurent: "Jamie. I have what I need. Meet me. Alone."

Jamie's jaw cliked. "It's a trap."

Alex stepped closer. "We'll go."

Jamie shook his head. "No. You—"

Alex cut him off. "We're partners. We go together."

Jamie hesitated, then nodded. "Okay. But…be ready."

They hailed a cab. Victor's address led them to an abandoned warehouse.

As they stepped out, Alex's phone buzzed.

Ethan: "You think you're smart, don't you?"

Alex smiled grimly. "Guess we're about to find out."

As they entered the warehouse, lights flickered on.

Mia stood there…holding a small box.

"Mia?" Jamie frowned. "What's going on?"

Mia's eyes locked on Alex. "I helped Ethan…to protect you, Jamie."

The box opened. A bomb ticked inside.

"But I couldn't go through with it," Mia whispered. "You have 5 minutes to escape."

Jamie grabbed Alex's hand. "RUN."

They sprinted. The bomb beeped faster…

As they burst out, the warehouse exploded.

Sirens approached. Alex turned to Jamie, shaken.

"Now what?"

Jamie's eyes hardened. "Now…we take Ethan down."
