Cherreads

Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

patients?" She requested, and Chloe obliged, sending pictures through the armband, and Amy couldn't help but blanche.

"What the fuck did you do to them?!" She practically screeched in horror, "Do you know how much fucking work I have to do just to fix all the holes that you put into them?!"

"I'm sorry, but Magos found it a necessary measure to preserve their lives." Chloe explained. "Please remain at your location, someone will arrive to assist with transportation."

"How many people did Magos perform this butchery on?!" Amy wasn't finished expressing her horror for this appalling medical practice.

"There are approximately 132 parahumans requiring your attention."

"132…" Amy whispered in horror. That was going to take almost so many work hours, and worse yet, she's going to be stuck plugging up the holes that Magos made in people while everyone else celebrates and kisses his ass. So with no other choice, she sat on the grass and waited for her pick up… chanting a mantra as she shivered in the cold.

"Fuck you, Magos. Fuck you."

feel angry at his words. The utter gall of that person to say that he was the one who was 'unable to witness reality objectively'! He was the one protecting this entire reality, the douchebag!

Taking a deep breath, Saint massaged his temples and calmed himself down. He should focus on his work, the anger will pass as soon as he stops thinking of it.

(Two days later)

"Damn you, Amogus." Saint angrily growled- running a hand over his bald head in frustration.

"Is he at it again?" Dobrynja's deep russian-accented voice called out as he peeked his bearded face through the doorway. "Don't let him get to you, Saint. Or just give PHO a rest for now."

"He's just not stopping." He sighed in reply- not looking away from the screen. "And I cannot help it if Dragon keeps reading his posts- I do need to monitor her even with her PHO moderation duties."

And it has spoiled PHO for him right now. If he came across yet another one of Amogus' passionate posts about gynoids and AIs and what not, Saint didn't know what he'd do in a fit of rage. This Amogus character has been ungratefully spitting on everything the Dragonslayer's stood for… by spreading his poisonous transhumanist views and sexual preferences to anyone who listened on PHO. At least Dragon wasn't taking this seriously.

"Hahahah!" The larger man barked out a hearty laugh, "Even a fake woman likes to hear gossip about how beautiful someone finds her to be, it seems!"

"Please stop ascribing human psychology to Dragon's way of thinking, Dobrynja." Saint called out after him before grumbling under his breath, "Besides, there is nothing attractive about AIs."

"Preaching to the choir, Saint!" The Russian-born man guffawed as he continued on to the kitchen- leaving Saint alone again. Sighing, he resolved to just drown his anger in work.

Turning his eyes back towards that array of six screens, Saint found that the AI was playing a video game at the moment. A shooter named 'Call 4 Duty.' Saint watched as Dragon played through the game at normal speed- dissecting through the videogame's code as she went. He would have said that was anomalous behaviour if he hadn't seen how she had tagged the task of playing a video game as 'Guild Responsibility.' Closer inspection of the documentation and files that Dragon had collected showed that the game was indeed built by a cybernetics Tinker named Magos.

And wasn't that a worrying thought? Tinkertech that somehow managed to get leaked onto the worldwide web free for anyone to simply download on their phones and tablets. But so far, there was nothing to worry about- the code was clean as far as the AI could see.

"Why would a cybernetics Tinker even make a videogame in the first place?" Dobrynja muttered as he came back, snacking on a sandwich- watching Dragon play this 'Call 4 Duty' game on one of the screens.

"Judging from the game's financial performance that Dragon is estimating: Funding." Saint responded- pursing his lips as he browsed through the very small amount of information Dragon had on this 'Magos' Tinker. It was always worrying when the AI didn't have information on a cape when she had considerable access to PRT databases. But this Magos was likely a new trigger, possibly unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Just another Rogue Tinker looking for cash. Or at least, that's what Dragon had chalked him up to be.

"Let's hope that's theonlyreason." Mags, the last member of their ragtag guardians of humanity, added her two-cents.

"Agreed."

"Does that mean that the game is safe to install?" Dobrynja grunted, pointing at the screen where Dragon was doing her playtesting, "It looks interesting to say the least."

"Using our greatest enemy as an anti-virus software, Dobrynja?" Saint scoffed- but still smiled slightly. "The AI does have her uses."

The large Russian-born man shrugged his bear-like shoulders.

"When I was told that we would act as mercenaries to hide our true purpose as Dragonslayers, no one told me that there would be so much waiting around."

"You get used to it." Mags empathised, "It was like this back when I was still on the force: 80% of my orders are just either paperwork, or variations of 'Hurry up and wait.' "

"Well, we aren't the Newfoundland Constabulary." Dobrynja chuckled. "We are under no obligation to torture ourselves."

"The software is clean, it seems." Saint said as an aside to the Russian. "But like every other leisure activity, don't let it interfere with our duties."

"It won't. I understand the need to remain vigilant over Dragon."

"And remain vigilant, we will." Saint nodded. It was good to know that his teammates were still on point on the importance of their work: AIs were not allowed to exist without oversight. But out of the corner of his eye, he found that Dragon was reading over yet another post made by Amogus.

"This man just won't give up, will he?" He growled, just as Mags placed her slender hand on his shoulder as if to hold him back.

"Don't interact with him, Saint." she sighed, "The last time you did, that PHO shouting match lasted for four hours."

He actually did a double-take to her in surprise, gesturing to the contents of Amogus' post as if she could not read it.

"But he's preaching about 'Robussy' again!" He emphasized- trying to convey both his disgust and horror of it, "And worse still, his insanity is having an effect on some people! This cannot be allowed to continue!"

Out of the corner of his eye, Saint spotted something on that stream of white text on black background, something concerning enough that he actually did a double-take in surprise at a new development happening in Dragon's subroutines and processes.

"And now…" he whispered in horror as he read the new data, "even Dragon is included in that list of people who is listening to him… According to this data, 'Amogus' is making a good argument in her deduction schema and logic engines. Dragon is being convinced of his way of thinking."
