Chapter 17 - Standoff

Jiang Yucheng was just as lucky as Jiang Ruzhu in the Jiang family. He had lost his appetite in the morning because of Chu Lianxin's ugly face, so he went out to meet friends early and didn't eat in the mansion. Thus, he escaped a disaster by chance.

Upon returning and learning of this, he flew into a rage and severely berated Chu Lianxin, the matriarch of the household.

Having her appearance ruined and now being reprimanded, Chu Lianxin was filled with grievances, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

Jiang Yucheng was even more annoyed: "Crying, crying, all you do is cry all day long. You can't do anything right. Such a big mess has happened in the mansion. Do you want me, the Minister, to be laughed to death by my colleagues when I go out?"

At this moment, he felt that Chu Lianxin was not as good as Liu Shi, that merchant girl.

At least when Lady Liu was the mistress of the house, such a mistake never occurred in the household.

Chu Lianxin had no idea that the man was comparing her, Liu Shi, to him at that moment. If she had known, her heart would have turned even colder.

She protested with a heartbroken expression, "How could my husband speak of me like that?"

"Besides, I have questioned everyone and there are no problems. No one knows why this happened."

Jiang Yucheng was still angry and ignored her sadness. Instead, he said unhappily, "You say there's no problem, then how do you explain this situation!"

"I suspect that someone poisoned me."

"Poisoning!"

Upon hearing Chu Lianxin's words, Jiang Yucheng immediately scoffed.

"I think you've gone mad. What kind of place is our Minister's residence?"

You think just any Tom, Dick, or Harry can come in and poison people?!

His Minister's residence is heavily guarded and has a complex terrain. Guards patrol the area around the clock. Anyone who dares to come in and poison his mansion would be asking for trouble.

Seeing that he didn't believe her, Chu Lianxin said meaningfully, "People outside can't get in, but what about those of us inside?"

"Who are you trying to say?" Jiang Yucheng frowned, staring straight at her.

Chu Lianxin was so eager to bring down Jiang Luoxue, this scourge, that she no longer cared about pretending to be a kind mother as usual.

"Husband, think about it carefully. We just confined Jiang Luoxue to her quarters yesterday, and today my face and the house are in trouble. Don't you think this is too much of a coincidence?"

"Moreover, her behavior yesterday was completely different from usual, so..."

Jiang Yucheng interrupted her: "So you suspect that Luo Xue did these things?"

Chu Lianxin looked at him without speaking, but her eyes revealed that this was indeed what she thought.

"Your idea is a bit far-fetched."

Let's not even talk about how a young woman like her could get the medicine.

Even if she had the medicine, she was already confined to Wensi Academy by us, so how could she have secretly drugged everyone in the manor?

Jiang Yucheng simply did not believe that his eldest daughter had done it.

He felt that Jiang Luoxue was an eighteen-year-old girl who was usually timid and hesitant.

Even if things were a little unusual yesterday, it was just because they were rebelling after being wronged; they had neither the ability nor the possibility to do such a thing.

Undeterred, Chu Lianxin continued to persuade him: "Husband, it's better to kill a thousand innocent people than to let one guilty person go free!"

"If we don't find the person who poisoned us, I'm afraid our household will never have peace again. You don't want today's incident to happen again, do you?"

"Whether it's snowing or not, let's try to trick her. If it's not snowing, that would be best, at least we can feel at ease, right?"

Jiang Yucheng thought about it and felt that what she said made some sense, so he ordered his attendants to go to Wensi Garden and bring the young lady over.

Wensiyuan Garden

The master and servants, who were under house arrest, had long heard that there was a huge commotion in the mansion, but unfortunately, they were unable to go out and see what was going on because they were confined to their quarters.

Qiuju, who was peering through the courtyard gate, heard what the servants were saying and clapped her hands in delight.

"Serves them right! They finally got their comeuppance for not giving us anything to eat!"

"I think it would take them three days and three nights to finish watching them."

Chunhe also curled up the corners of her mouth: "It seems that God has opened his eyes and avenged us."

Qiuju pouted and said, "It's a pity that neither Miss nor we can go out to see their retribution. It's such a shame."

"I'm not interested!" Jiang Luoxue curled her lips slightly, thinking to herself, "Do I want to see the whole mansion collectively messing in their pants?"

That was a smelly scene, and she didn't want to be so disgusted that she couldn't eat.

Hearing that the masters of the Minister's mansion were all safe, Jiang Luoxue couldn't help but feel a little regretful. It was a pity that her scumbag father and vicious stepmother hadn't been able to get the medicine, otherwise the scene would have been even more lively.

As the three, master and servant, were talking, the courtyard gate opened.

Leading the group was Jiang Yucheng's follower, Jiang Shu.

"Young Miss, the master requests your presence."

Did my father say why he wanted to call me over?

"I don't know, Miss, you'll find out when you get there," Jiang Shu replied with a bow, revealing no information whatsoever.

Even if Jiang Shu didn't say it, Jiang Luoxue already had a vague idea in her heart why her scumbag father had called her over.

He just wanted to see if what was happening in the manor had anything to do with her.

But even if they have doubts, they still need to provide evidence.

She was very confident that no one else knew about what happened last night except for her and Xuan Tong.

Jiang Yucheng's question was pointless.

"Miss!"

The two maids looked at their master with worried expressions, instinctively feeling that nothing good was going to happen.

Jiang Luoxue shook her head: "It's alright, I'll be right back, you two don't need to come with me."

Having these two girls around is actually not a good thing. What if Jiang Yucheng questions me and I don't admit it, and then he turns his attention to them?

Jiang Luoxue followed Jiang Shu to the main courtyard. As soon as they entered, Jiang Yucheng sternly threatened her, "You unfilial daughter, do you know what you've done wrong!"

"May I ask, Father, what wrong have I done?" Jiang Luoxue raised her head and looked at the man with a clear and honest gaze.

Chu Lianxin, who was standing to the side, had completely stopped pretending to be a kind mother. She glared fiercely at her stepdaughter, who was a thorn in her side, and began to use words to trick her.

"Jiang Luoxue, we have found out that you harbored resentment because you were confined to your residence, and you actually poisoned everyone in the mansion. Your heart is truly despicable. Kneel down and admit your mistake!"

"I poisoned you? What kind of poison?"

"What are you talking about, Auntie?" Jiang Luoxue wasn't so easily fooled. She stood there with a perfectly measured look of confusion on her face, as if she had no idea what she was talking about.

Chu Lianxin slammed her hand on the table and shouted, "Jiang Luoxue, stop pretending! We already know you did it. There's no use in trying to deny it. Kneel down and admit your mistake, or you'll face the family rules!"

"I did nothing wrong, why should I admit it!" Jiang Luoxue replied stubbornly.

Then she turned to look at Jiang Yucheng, her eyes wide with disbelief, and asked, "Father, do you also believe Chu lianxin's absurd words?"

Seeing Jiang Yucheng remain silent, Jiang Luoxue smiled bitterly and said, "Father, have you forgotten that yesterday you punished me by confining me to the backyard, but the gate was locked from the outside? Do you think I have wings and can fly out of Wensi Garden to poison the mansion?"

Jiang Luoxue's face showed shock, disappointment, and heartache, but she secretly cheered for herself.

Look at her acting skills, they're getting better and better. If she could go back to modern times, she might even be able to enter the entertainment industry and become a star.
