Chapter 26 - Suspicion

After reuniting with Saeko, a relieved Akira greeted Saya and the others again.

"Hey… Akira, where have you been?" Saya asked when she saw him again.

"I went out to relax, but I didn't expect to find something good," she replied, pointing to a tactical vehicle parked not far from their position.

"Wow… this is a tactical vehicle for special forces, but what model? I don't think I've seen one before!" Hirano, who loves weapons and military equipment, immediately commented as he took a closer look at the armored tactical vehicle.

"This is probably for military special forces, because the police force doesn't have a model like this," Rei replied, coming from a family of police officers and therefore knowledgeable.

"Yeah, it looks like an imported product," Takashi replied.

"Can you tell me what really happened here?" Turning his attention, Akira spoke to Saeko.

At Akira's question, Saeko then began to explain what really happened at my house.

It all started when she was waiting for Akira to return, until Saeko noticed unusual zombie movement.

Outside the fence of my house, she thought it was probably normal for a few zombies to pass by.

Saeko didn't think much of it, but after further consideration, she realized that the appearance of these zombies was something that was highly unlikely to occur under normal circumstances.

In other words, the appearance of these zombies must be related to the security situation around my house.

So, Saeko decided to prepare immediately. Just as she was about to prepare, Miss Yuriko's knocking woke them up.

From there, after gathering them, they all began walking towards the outside of my house.

To their surprise, they saw that the front gate of my house was already crowded with zombies trying to get inside.

Meanwhile, the security team manning the gate seemed overwhelmed by the zombie onslaught.

Seeing the unfavorable situation, Miss Yuriko ordered them to immediately assist in evacuating the other victims in the yard.

Shortly afterward, they managed to evacuate to a safe area behind Saya's house, under the protection of the security team.

Unfortunately, due to the increasing number of zombies, the team guarding the gate eventually couldn't hold them back and withdrew.

Soon, the sound of gunfire from the security team was no longer heard, and orders to use sharp weapons were heard throughout the area.

This indicated that the security team, led by Saya's father, was engaging the zombies with sharp weapons.

While they were all desperate, Saeko then received news from Akira. A dozen minutes later, they saw an armored car break through and exterminate all the zombies. It wasn't until the driver got out of the armored car that they realized it was Akira coming to help.

In a study within the Takagi residence, Akira and Mr. Takagi were sitting together discussing what had just happened.

"Uncle, how's the overall situation at your house?" Akira asked first, starting their conversation.

"Thankfully, you arrived early, so the damage is still manageable, except for the gate, which needs to be reinforced.

The rest are consumables, many of which are damaged and no longer usable.

Among these items are tents to accommodate evacuees and some daily equipment that couldn't be evacuated due to the emergency situation.

Another issue is the shortage of ammunition due to the intensive use during this zombie attack.

As for food and water, they are still safe because they are stored in a place relatively inaccessible to zombies.

So, after some repairs, everything will return to normal," replied Mr. Takagi.

"For some of the things you mentioned, perhaps I can help, including ammunition and food.

I found a lot of supplies in a warehouse near this armored vehicle I found," Akira told Mr. Takagi about his discovery.

"Oh... you found a lot of good stuff, Akira." "A, can you explain where they are?" Mr. Takagi asked again.

"They're in the area…" Akira explained, giving him the location.

"And don't worry, Uncle, I'll show you directly," Akira told Mr. Takagi directly.

"Okay, then I'll ask for your help with this, and I owe you a big thank you for what you've done," Mr. Takagi expressed his gratitude.

"Don't be shy, Uncle. Your family and I have helped us, so this contribution is worth it," Akira replied again.

"Next, Uncle, do you feel anything strange about this?" Akira asked again, discussing the issue of the zombies that managed to break through undetected.

"Thinking about your question, I certainly feel the strange feeling you mentioned. Normally, the security post guarding the outer perimeter would have notified the headquarters if there was a problem.

But strangely, from the report I received from the security team on duty at headquarters, it was discovered that the team on duty in the outer area had lost contact, and when I tried to contact them, no one answered.

Upon learning of this, the security team at the base attempted to conduct a direct inspection by visiting the outermost guard post.

However, before that could happen, the team guarding the main gate of the base suddenly reported that a large horde of zombies was approaching them.

Without adequate preparation, the security team on duty was overwhelmed.

In the end, what you saw happened," Mr. Takagi replied.

"From there, I realized that something unexpected must have happened with the outermost guard post that was causing the zombies to enter the inner area.

So, after resolving the existing problem, I asked several members of the security team to immediately conduct an inspection and check what was happening at the first guard post," Mr. Takagi explained his suspicions to Akira.

"I don't know if this information will help you, but as I drove quickly toward your house,

At the outermost guard post that was supposed to be manned, I didn't see any guards, and there didn't seem to be any damage there.

I just noticed that the barricade at the first guard post had been removed, and not far away,

there was a bus filled with students from the same high school as me and the others, with a bespectacled driver at the helm," Akira informed Mr. Takagi of her suspicions.

"A bus…and a bespectacled man…
