Chapter 46 - Ambush

Still wary, Akira drove his car toward the blocked road, constantly scanning his surroundings.

He feared that if he wasn't careful, he might be ambushed.

And if the ambush was carried out by humans, he might feel a little relieved, because humans still fear death.

So, as long as they are properly threatened, they will retreat willingly.

The story was different if it was carried out by zombies. Akira had to decisively assess his capabilities.

Was he capable of defending and attacking? If it was deemed too risky, he would simply choose to flee and avoid them as much as possible.

Finally, once he approached the roadblock and had enough space to reach it, Akira without hesitation immediately tucked it into his space.

At a slow but steady pace, he continued to store all the items blocking the road away from his car.

Akira had no intention of removing all the barricades blocking the road; he simply opened them to the width of the tactical vehicle he was driving.

Fortunately, the number of objects blocking the barricades wasn't too large, so the road was finally cleared in a matter of minutes.

"The left and right sides are clear," Saeko's voice was heard reporting the situation to Akira.

"The rear is also clear," Shizuka also informed him of the situation at the rear.

"The front is clear, so now we can accelerate." Akira breathed a sigh of relief as he realized he could now accelerate much faster.

Leaving the strange town behind, a bend awaited his freedom before he could drive freely onto the toll road.

But what Akira never expected was that on top of a hill covered in large rocks, a human figure with a terrifying face and red eyes loomed.

Seeing his car's progress, the figure growled with a fierce and cruel expression.

"Arghhh...arghhh..." As if speaking.

The zombie-like figure looked behind him, where a dense mass of zombies appeared to be spread out.

If Akira had seen this, he would probably have screamed and felt goosebumps as he stared at the phenomenon.

Because of their large numbers and widespread distribution, due to their position on the hill, the horde of zombies was practically invisible from below.

And in this case, Akira, who had begun to accelerate his vehicle, was still unaware of the presence of the horde of zombies and their movements.

There was a distance of approximately 300 to 400 meters from Akira's position to the hill, and the hill was between 50 and 70 meters high. The closest part facing the road was obscured by tall bushes and natural rocks.

So, unless viewed from a higher position or from a different perspective, the large horde of zombies would have been difficult to spot.

Like a trained commando, these zombies, usually devoid of intelligence, resembled oxen used by farmers to plow their fields.

Easily directed and controlled by the terrifying zombie figure who appeared to be the leader of the horde.

With a startling vibration, rocks ranging in size from small to medium to large began to slowly descend the hillside.

Seeing the sudden anomaly in front of him, Akira had a strong feeling that he needed to stop and avoid the situation ahead.

Then something very serious was about to happen to him, so with a feeling of anxiety, he finally accelerated his vehicle.

He then scanned the surrounding area again.

"What's wrong with the rocks on that hill? Why are they starting to crumble?!" Shizuka asked anxiously as she saw the rocks on the hill begin to fall and crumble towards the road ahead.

"Look, there are a lot of zombies on that hill!!" Shocked, Saeko pointed to the top of the hill, now only a few meters away.

"Hold on tight, there might be a collision, we have to get out of here immediately!!" Akira replied urgently.

"Vroom..." The tactical vehicle's torque roared loudly, and the vehicle rapidly accelerated.

10m...7m...5m...1m...tok...tok...tok...tok...the sound of rocks falling onto the tactical vehicle's roof was heard from inside the cockpit.

And Akira Kiki was fully alert, accelerating the vehicle even faster.

The space accommodated many small rocks and The rocks were larger than 40-80 cm in diameter, and some were as large as 3-4 meters.

Thinking about the car buried by the rocks, Akira felt a chill run down his spine.

He realized that behind the many small and medium-sized rocks that continued to fall, there were much larger ones waiting to fall on them.

And for Akira, this was definitely not good news. While packing a lot of stuff into the space was easy, the volume and weight also affected his mental state.

Not to mention the sheer number of items, there was a chance that if he forced himself to do so, he would feel dizzy and faint if he reached his limits.

So his only option was to run and quickly get away from the area.

"Dug…dug…dug…dug…" Larger impacts began to pound against the roof and windshield of the tactical vehicle, but they began to move away from the rock fall zone.

Finally, after a while, they managed to escape the danger zone.

"Fuuuu…we're finally out!!" Shizuka said with a relieved expression, as she looked back at the road, which was beginning to be covered by large rocks falling onto the road.

"Bom…bom…" The loud thud of large rocks falling onto the road from a height of over 50 meters made Akira break out in a cold sweat, as he watched through his rearview mirror.

He imagined that even though this car could withstand explosions and medium-caliber gunfire, if a large rock weighing several tons, or even dozens of tons, were to fall on this tactical vehicle from a height of tens of meters.

Akira was certain the structure of the car would not withstand it, and while they might survive, they would certainly suffer some injuries.

"Arghhhhhhhhhh…" A loud, echoing roar rang out from the hill behind them.

Everyone in the car glanced at each other, as if they had escaped from some unknown beast, filled with relief and gratitude.

"What was that roar???" Saeko asked in a serious tone.

"Whatever it was, it was definitely not a normal zombie or a human!!" Akira replied while looking straight at the toll road they were on.

"Thank goodness we escaped from that monster, I'm afraid to imagine how cruel and cunning that monster was, trapping us in such a vicious way!!" Shizuka said with an angry and relieed expression.

"Then, now where are we going?" Saeko asked again.

"We're going to…." Akira answered
