Chapter 130 - Chapter 130 : Can't Change

Henry quietly closed the restroom door and looked around the empty gas station. He frowned as he thought back through the timeline.

Was there any event around this point where Dean suddenly disappeared?

A few seconds later, it clicked. "I remember..."

This was around the time Castiel sent Dean back to the past, to the period when John Winchester and Mary Campbell had fallen in love and were beginning to think about getting married.

The trip hadn't simply been a lesson about Dean's family history — Dean himself was part of that history. Without ever realizing it, he played a crucial role in the chain of events that led Azazel to take an interest in Mary Winchester.

The Yellow-Eyed Demon was searching for suitable women, carefully preparing his long-term plan to create the psychic children. Mary's deal with Azazel eventually made Sam one of those children, setting countless future events into motion.

Henry let out a long sigh. "Seriously... these angels just love sticking their noses into other people's business."

He remembered how determined Dean had been when Castiel sent him back.

Dean believed he could change everything — save Mary, stop Azazel before he ever made the deal, and erase the nightmare his family would one day endure.

Instead, Dean discovered one of the cruelest truths about time travel. Every choice he made had already happened.

His attempts to alter history only completed it — he hadn't rewritten the past, he had fulfilled it exactly as it was always meant to unfold.

The more Henry looked at the situation, the more obvious it became. Michael had always intended to fight Lucifer.

For that war to happen, both archangels needed their true vessels, and those vessels were Dean and Sam Winchester.

Heaven wasn't trying to prevent the final battle forever; it was trying to make sure it happened under the right circumstances.

Then there was Raphael. Henry had never liked him. Raphael cared more about Heaven's laws, hierarchy, and tradition than anything else — if sacrificing humanity was necessary to preserve Heaven's order, he wouldn't hesitate for a second. Gabriel was hardly any better.

The so-called Trickster had spent centuries hiding from his own family, avoiding the conflict altogether while pretending he didn't care about Heaven or Hell.

As for Lucifer, Henry wasn't even sure where to begin. All four archangels were messed up in one way or another.

Henry rubbed his forehead. "I thought preventing the first Seal from breaking would buy us plenty of time."

Instead, the demons had simply found another way to break it. Now the remaining Seals were continuing to fall one after another, almost as though history was forcing itself back onto its original course no matter what anyone did.

For the first time since arriving in this world, Henry seriously began to wonder whether he could actually stop Lucifer from ever leaving the Cage.

That confidence he'd had at the beginning was slowly starting to crack.

Henry sensed the angelic presence again — it lasted only an instant before disappearing. A moment later, the restroom door opened, and Dean walked out as though nothing had happened.

Henry studied him for a second. "So... everything alright, Dean?"

Dean shrugged, though his expression was noticeably darker than before. "Yeah. Nothing. Just in a crappy mood." Without waiting for another question, he walked back toward the Impala.

Henry sighed inwardly. After everything Castiel had just shown him, who wouldn't be?

A few minutes later, the Impala was back on the road. Classic rock played quietly through the speakers as none of them spoke for several miles.

Dean finally broke the silence. "Have you ever thought... if you could go back in time, would you change your past? Make your life better?"

Sam turned to look at his brother. "Where's this coming from, Dean?"

Henry remained silent for a moment before answering. "Honestly... I don't think the past is something you can change." He looked out the window as the scenery rolled by.

"When something has already happened, trying to change it usually doesn't erase it. More often than not, every attempt to alter the past just becomes another part of it."

Dean kept his eyes on the road.

"Sometimes fate has a way of correcting itself," Henry continued.

"The harder people try to avoid certain events, the more they end up causing them. Instead of changing the inevitable, they simply become the reason it happens in the first place."

Sam frowned thoughtfully. "So you think some things are just meant to happen?"

Henry gave a small shrug. "I think some events become fixed because people keep trying to change them. In the end, history still reaches the same destination."

Dean let out a slow sigh. Henry was right.

When Castiel had sent him back, he'd believed he could stop everything before it began — tried to warn his parents, tried to interfere wherever he could, convinced that knowing the future would let him change it.

Instead, every step he took only carried history closer to the future he had been trying to prevent. Azazel still found Mary. The deal was still made. His family still ended up on the same road that led to tragedy.

In the end, Dean hadn't changed a single thing — if anything, his actions had only helped ensure that events unfolded exactly as they always had.

It was a helpless feeling, realizing that despite knowing what was coming, there had been absolutely nothing he could do to stop it.
