Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 – Binding the Serpent

The clearing reeked of smoke, fire licking at scattered trees, and the deafening roar of Chanmrigasura echoed across the riverbanks. Hunters crouched tensely, flinging their oil pots, but it was Agastya at the center, calm as ever, his staff tapping rhythmically against the earth.

"Focus," Agastya's voice cut through the chaos, low and commanding. "Every movement, every breath… follow the flow."

Anand watched, heart pounding, as the sage began chanting. The syllables were ancient, vibrating through the ground itself. With a sweep of his staff, the soil cracked in a wide arc, splitting beneath the demon's coils. Chanmrigasura thrashed violently, trying to find purchase, but the chant held it suspended, unable to fully anchor itself to the earth.

The demon's roars turned into frustrated hisses. Poison spat from its fangs, venom bubbling into the river, but the sage's focus never wavered. The more the creature struggled, the more the binding strengthened.

Anand instinctively moved closer, seeing the demon's movements become slower, weaker. It's like watching a tidal wave trapped in a net.

He glanced at the villagers — some pale, some wide-eyed with terror. Even the hunters were frozen, unable to believe the strength and precision of Agastya's power.

"This is incredible," Anand muttered under his breath, glancing at the lighter still in his pocket. Yet he knew it wasn't his tools that would end this — it was knowledge, timing, and control.

Hours seemed to stretch as Chanmrigasura thrashed, its massive tail sweeping through trees and scorched earth. But each swing was calculated, each roar futile against the sage's control. Slowly, exhaustion set in. The demon's strength waned, its fury unable to sustain itself.

The sage's voice rose, chanting faster, the staff tapping a sharp rhythm into the soil. The demon stumbled as the ground shifted beneath it, unable to find balance. Its eyes, once blazing with power, now darted nervously.

And then, with a final, thunderous hiss, it faltered. The tail struck a tree, snapping it with a deafening crack, and Chanmrigasura sank slightly, restrained by the fractured earth.

Anand squinted toward the east. The first rays of sunlight pierced the horizon, striking his face. The demon let out a last shuddering roar, momentarily blinded by the brilliance, and then collapsed, defeated by its exhaustion, the sage's bindings, and the diminishing power of the hidden moon.

Silence fell. Smoke curled lazily into the morning air, scorched grass smoldering. The villagers slowly emerged, awe and relief etched on their faces. Children peeked from behind trees, mouths agape.

Agastya lowered his staff, voice calm as ever, though fatigue crept into his features. "It is done. Strength without discipline, power without restraint — even the mighty fall when bound by dharma."

Anand exhaled, his chest heaving. He realized, for the first time, just how far intellect, courage, and careful planning could bend the world's rules. The demon lay vanquished, yet not destroyed — a reminder of the dangers when unchecked.

He looked at Agastya, bowing slightly. "That… was incredible."

The sage only nodded. "You observed well, Anand. Power is only effective when paired with wisdom, patience, and control. Remember that."

The villagers began murmuring their gratitude, slowly approaching the sage and Anand. But Anand's eyes lingered on the fading shadow of Chanmrigasura, sunlight glinting off its dark, massive form, knowing the battle had been as much about patience and strategy as raw courage.

And somewhere in the distance, the river shimmered, reflecting the first light of day — quiet, peaceful, almost ordinary, as if nothing had happened.
