Hope's combat training had been going for two weeks when a real threat showed up that wasn't a minor phasing entity or routine dimensional manifestation, and watching my three-year-old daughter insist she could help with an actual hostile incursion was—I was going to need so much therapy after this parenting experience.
"Multiple entities breaching southern perimeter." The alert came during breakfast which was becoming a pattern I really hated. "Aggressive. Coordinated. Scout assessment suggests organized attack not random manifestation."
Organized attack. Right. Because minor threats were apparently too easy now.
"I can help." Hope was out of her chair before I could stop her. "I've been training! I know threat assessment and defensive freezing and—"
"You've been training for two weeks." I cut her off. "This is organized attack. Multiple entities. That's not—that's too much for your first real application."
