Chapter 30: Synthesis of the dragonstone

The Red Keep, Maegors Holdfast, Eddard's Bedroom

Eddard's bedroom was a multi-functional suite with two fireplaces. The office area was located on the left side upon entering, with a partition between the bedroom and the office situated at the two-thirds mark of the room.

At this moment, illuminated by the firelight from the hearth and the glow of candles, the office area was quite bright. The three children of House Stark had gone to sleep early after bidding Eddard farewell.

Another child of House Stark, or rather, the foster child, remained in Eddard's study.

"What are you doing?"

Watching Jon as he continuously pulled things from the void to tinker with them, Eddard asked in surprise.

"I'm organizing today's haul. I originally just intended to take a casual stroll, but I didn't expect to find such a great harvest."

Looking at Jon, who appeared to be Jory Cassel but was actually his nephew, Eddard felt a sense of helplessness.

After experiencing Jon's dream story, Eddard, who had always sneered at magic and sorcery, began to take an interest in such things.

However, the nobles of this world still held an impression of sorcery that was limited to things like witches' cauldrons.

But Jon's ability to take things out of the void was unheard of. Seeing the jars and bottles Jon laid out, Eddard's interest was piqued.

"Jon, can you concoct a potion that makes someone quit drinking and... that other thing?"

"Quit which one? You don't want to help your good brother quit women, do you?"

Looking at his "cheap" uncle who found a certain word difficult to utter, Jon asked with a faint smile.

"If he gave up those two things, he would definitely be a good king."

"Are you really sure he's a good king? What's the difference between him and 'Aegon the Unworthy' right now? Even if he gave up those two things, could the debts owed by the iron throne be paid off?"

Jon's words pierced Eddard's heart like a sharp blade. Although Eddard had been trying hard to change his good brother Robert since arriving in King's Landing.

But no matter how Eddard advised him, Robert remained like a rebellious child, refusing to listen or change.

"My dear uncle, perhaps you've forgotten how terrifying the hidden dangers left in that future story are!"

With Jon's reminder, Eddard finally seemed to realize that the Seven Kingdoms—or rather, the royal family—had been pulled completely into the abyss.

The crown's debts to the iron bank, House Lannister, and other factions had pushed the entire Seven Kingdoms to the brink of a volcano.

Later, under the manipulation of that madwoman Cersei Lannister, the iron throne borrowed a massive sum from the iron bank, a debt that would ultimately fall upon the heads of all the nobles and commoners of the Seven Kingdoms.

And when that somewhat ridiculous royal family finally took over the affairs of the Seven Kingdoms, these loans would drag the realm completely into the abyss.

Supported by those powers, the new guardians of the Seven Kingdoms would be overthrown by factions backed by those creditors, and ultimately, the entire continent of Westeros would return to the dark ages before Aegon's Conquest, with nobles warring against each other and commoners displaced.

"The Seven Kingdoms are rotten to the core. Either let Daenerys come, or let me. Regardless, without cutting away all this putrid flesh, the Seven Kingdoms will never see true peace."

Jon's words completely shut down Eddard's fantasies. Seeing that his "cheap" uncle no longer pressed the matter, Jon could finally settle down and focus on his synthesis experiments.

After the system shop function appeared, Jon's dragon egg finally showed a reaction. Unfortunately, while a dragonstone could indeed be manufactured, the cost was far too high.

In the system game, a dragonstone was a terrifying item that allowed dragon-kin little girls to transform into dragons. In the game, the dragon-kin used Divine dragonstones, which could counter the fire dragons of the enemy side.

But there was a limitation: like system weapons, they had durability. Once exhausted, the dragon-kin would be unable to use any weapons.

However, Jon's "Dragon Lord" class was different. While able to use a dragonstone, Jon could still use weapons in combat, specializing in both magic and martial arts.

But any power comes with a price, and the price for the power of Jon's "Dragon Lord" class was the consumption of various types of energy.

Now, if he wanted to make "dark sister" his exclusive weapon, Jon would need to consume a large amount of Soul Energy and undergo forging to achieve that magic-martial hybrid effect.

Although the appeal of "dark sister" becoming an exclusive weapon was great, it still wasn't as attractive as a dragonstone in Jon's eyes.

Dragons in this world were like a dimensional strike. The reason the Valyrian Freehold could conquer the entire continent of Essos was due to the dragons' high mobility and attack power.

Although the weapons of this world had been upgraded quite a bit, when a giant dragon appeared, many things were already predetermined.

In the face of such absolute power, any schemes or plots were futile. Of course, Jon wasn't a fool; he had already gained inspiration from that failed TV series on how dragons should fight and avoid damage.

So, under Eddard's somewhat surprised gaze, Jon took a dragon egg out of his item space.

"Is... is this a dragon egg?"

Looking at the "stone" in Jon's hand with its strange scale-like patterns, Eddard asked stutteringly.

Having heard Jon's story, Eddard naturally knew what a scaled stone was, but he was surprised why Jon suddenly possessed a dragon egg.

"This is also part of 'Bloodraven's Legacy.' I didn't just get 'dark sister' at The Wall; I also got dragon eggs and a large cache of treasure."

Upon receiving Jon's affirmative answer, Eddard's expression turned complex. Despite having experienced so much, seeing a dragon egg still made him involuntarily think of his elder brother and father who died tragically in King's Landing.

"Sigh, I hope that legend isn't true!"

Looking at his nephew tinkering there, Eddard sighed silently in his heart.

Eddard had watched Jon grow up, and in his view, Jon's character was perfectly fine. Although at the end of that story, Jon killed the queen he had sworn to serve.

But Eddard understood that all of this was caused by him being too kind. Therefore, if Jon were to ascend the iron throne in the future, Eddard only felt he would become a good king.

However, he had always been concerned about a certain legend. There was a saying in the Seven Kingdoms that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin: one side is madness, the other is greatness.

Eddard wasn't worried about Jon; he was afraid that Jon's descendants would repeat the mistakes of the Targaryen Family.

Meanwhile, Jon was still immersed in his synthesis work and didn't notice the complex look in his "cheap" uncle's eyes.

If Jon knew, he would definitely tell Eddard that he was overthinking things.

Right now Jon had nothing, yet the other man was already considering what would happen after he ascended the iron throne. One could only say this uncle was truly dedicated—so dedicated it was almost laughable.

At this moment, Jon had already entered the system shop interface, accessing it through a point of light.

Upon entering the system shop, an interface like a book page appeared in the void before Jon. Previously, when there was only the shop function, the page only had iron weapons, vulnerary, and antidotes.

But with the launch of several other functions, the first page now featured several options like web links: Item List, Weapon Forging, Prop Forging, Item Synthesis, and Class Promotion.

After selecting Item Synthesis, several transparent options appeared on the interface before Jon. Currently, the only active option was the dragonstone.

"Consume 10,000 Dragon Soul Energy, 5,000 Soul Energy, and 1 dragon egg to forge a dragonstone?"

Looking at the "Yes/No" options appearing in the void, Jon clicked "Yes" without hesitation.

Waves of strange energy appeared around his body, and the moment that power appeared, the energy in his body was completely drained.

Immediately after, the exhausted Jon saw the dragon egg in his hand change. First came waves of strange dark red light, followed by purple light.

Under the twisting and intertwining of these two lights, the dragon egg began to turn transparent, and powerful energy fluctuations radiated from it.

"Roar..."

Faintly, an ethereal dragon roar echoed in Eddard's bedroom. This strange sight left Eddard completely stunned.

This strange commotion came and went quickly. In less than a minute, all the bizarre scenes in the room vanished.

The dragon egg that caused all this, or rather what should now be called a Dragon Crystal, lay quietly in Jon's hand, looking like a burning red crystal prism.

"dragonstone synthesis complete. Consume an equal amount of Dragon Soul Energy to use this special item normally. The system has preset the dragonstone to be bound."

"New class item permissions unlocked: Class Item Dragon Horn..."

"Descent Mode importing..."
