Caroline Forbes made no secret of her interest in Shane, even though they had just met and only exchanged a few sentences.
As a prominent figure among her peers in the town and the Social Queen of the school, although she had many suitors and admirers, Caroline Forbes only treated them as tools to satisfy her vanity of being pursued. Being with them wouldn't give her any sense of accomplishment; instead, she might be mocked and pulled down from the Queen's throne.
Shane was different. He came from a big city, was rich and wealthy, dressed in luxury attire that couldn't be bought even with money in the small town. He was young and exuded a charming exotic atmosphere.
If she could handle him and ride around the town a few times in his Ferrari, Caroline Forbes could be sure that she would instantly become the object of discussion for everyone in the school and become one of the hot topics in school for a long time.
Shane looked down at his shirt and smiled at Caroline Forbes. "You seem to know a lot about this. If there's a chance in the future, you can give me some advice; I don't know much about it."
"Sure, let's exchange numbers. You have such a good figure and a very special temperament; I know several clothing brands that suit you very well." Caroline Forbes agreed very naturally. Not only did she legitimately get a chance to contact Shane again, but she also smoothly obtained the most crucial mobile phone number.
Elena and Bonnie beside them were both envious and admiring. They couldn't strike up a conversation with someone so naturally and get their number like Caroline.
"I'll leave the inside to you guys. If you do it quickly and cleanly, besides the agreed payment, I'll give each of you an extra small gift."
"Don't worry, we'll do it well," Bonnie promised, and Elena nodded along.
Caroline smiled and said, "I'll be looking forward to your small gift."
Among the three girls, Caroline was the most "Green Tea."
This wasn't derogatory. Most girls in this country longed to become prominent figures in school, becoming the focus wherever they went. So the "Queens" in most schools could basically be said to be "Green Tea" without exception, and their levels were quite high. The Caroline in front of him was considered relatively elementary, not even comparable to Serena far away in New York.
Shane let the three girls start moving to clean up. He and Anna made an excuse to go buy things and drove away. When the car reached a place with no one around, Shane summoned a Shadow Clone, asked Anna to send the Shadow Clone out of town to the nearest airport, while he walked back leisurely.
When he came back, Shane happened to see Elena wiping the furniture originally left in the house with a towel. Her movements were agile, and she worked seriously. Meanwhile, Bonnie and Caroline were cleaning upstairs and in the attic.
The division of labor among the three was clear. Elena was responsible for the first floor, Bonnie was responsible for the second floor, and Caroline was responsible for the attic.
In terms of difficulty, the second floor Bonnie was responsible for had the most work. Three bedrooms and a bathroom were all places that needed key cleaning. Next was the attic Caroline was responsible for. Shane had seen it before; there was a lot of dust in the attic, and cleaning it up was troublesome. Instead, the first floor Elena was responsible for was relatively easier due to its layout and purpose.
Their division of labor was somewhat unreasonable. Bonnie was fine; with her personality, it was normal to be responsible for the most tiring and heaviest work on the second floor. But Caroline, with such a strong desire for control and a personality that liked to order others to do things, should have chosen the easiest first floor. How could she give the first floor to Elena? Moreover, Caroline was obviously interested in him; she should have chosen the first floor with the most contact opportunities.
Shane thought it was unreasonable, but actually, this was the most reasonable.
Since Caroline was interested in Shane, how could she let him see her looking disheveled while working? Did she not want the goddess image anymore? Work could be done, but the image couldn't be destroyed or frozen. Of course, she wouldn't do the most tiring work, so she could only settle for the second best and choose the attic.
"No need to clean these furniture and decorations; I'll replace them with new ones later." Shane reminded Elena, then smiled and said, "This house was originally your family's, did you know?"
Elena shook her head blankly. "My family's?"
"A few hours ago, I bought this house from your parents for five hundred thousand dollars. If you have any gift you've always wanted to buy, you can ask them for it when you go home. They have money now!" Shane winked teasingly.
Elena was amused and smiled beautifully, tucking her hair behind her ear and saying, "I will."
Afterward, Elena chatted with Shane while working. Unknowingly, they chatted very congenially. Not only did they mention some of their own affairs, but they even exchanged numbers.
For example, Shane already knew she had a childhood friend named Matt. Their relationship was good. Matt wanted to take their relationship a step further to become boyfriend and girlfriend, but Elena hadn't thought it through yet.
According to the TV show plot, they would become boyfriend and girlfriend and date officially until they broke up before the summer vacation of entering high school. Elena's first love ended there. She dated Matt because she felt she should give herself a chance to see if there could be a result with him, but after being together, she didn't have that feeling, so they broke up.
Matt later also dated Caroline.
Uh, looking at it this way, Matt is considered a winner in life. Among the sister squad, except for Bonnie, who isn't considered too beautiful or charming due to skin color (Shane's bias/commentary, not necessarily objective fact), he has had them all!
Incidentally, Matt had a sister named Vicki. She was the kind of girl who lived a messy life, but she was the goddess and first love of Elena's brother Jeremy. Unfortunately, she turned into a vampire and was killed in the end.
This is the characteristic of small places. There are only so few people going back and forth. Either you are with me, or I am with him, or you and he are relatives, and I and you are relatives.
Two hours later, the house was cleaned from top to bottom. Among the three girls, Elena and Bonnie were panting, with sweat and dust on their faces. Caroline, however, looked as if she hadn't worked. Although there were some sweat beads, she was still radiant and moving, her hair not messy.
Comparing the three, there was quite a feeling of distinct primary and secondary roles.
"Thank you for your hard work."
Shane paid the remuneration and walked toward the suitcase placed in the corner.
Inside were small things he bought randomly along the way. After opening, it was dazzling with a wide variety: perfumes, scarves, accessories, cosmetics, and even a few pairs of high heels and women's clothes.
The reason they were all things used by girls was that they were originally small gifts Shane bought to give to people. Girls being major consumers, naturally, he needed to cultivate a few more "tool people" (people used for tasks/influence), for example... these three in front of him.
