Volumes II: Cooked Machine

In Harlan Ellison's short story titled I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, China, the Soviet Union and the United States each make a supercomputer which was named Allied MasterComputer, or AM for short. However, one day, one of the three AMs (the United States AM) attained sentience, assimilated itself with the other two, redefined its own name to mean Cogito, ergo sum — "i think, therefore i AM" — and then wiped out all of humanity save for four men and one woman. These five remaining humans have their own meanings for AM which are among others, Adaptive Manipulator and Aggressive Menace. I, too, as a reader, have my own name for AM which is After Marination. The marinate, according to me, is music. Thus, after marination, AM will be cooked and I, and only I, will be doing that cooking.
