Chapter 46 - Chapter 45 flirting

The Iceberg's Gambit

[Jay's POV]

If yesterday was about Yuri's fire, today was about Kiara's frost.

The atmosphere in Section 1-A had shifted. The "Squad" was on high alert, forming a literal human wall around our desks. But Kiara Chen didn't need to break through a wall to make her move. She used the one thing Keifer couldn't ignore: The Project.

We were in the Student Commons, a high-tech open space where the sunlight hit the glass just right. Keifer was sitting across from me, his head buried in a structural blueprint, when a shadow—sharp and motionless—fell over the table.

"That calculation for the bridge's torsional oscillation is inefficient, Keifer," Kiara said.

She didn't wait for an invite. She sat down in the empty chair right next to Keifer—on his side of the table. She didn't look at me. She didn't even acknowledge I existed.

"I looked at your family's legacy projects," Kiara continued, her voice like silk rubbing against ice. She leaned in toward Keifer, her shoulder nearly brushing his. She pointed a slim, silver stylus at his screen. "You're using the Watson Standard. It's safe. It's reliable. But it lacks... ambition. In Singapore, we've moved past this. I could show you how to optimize this by 15%."

I felt my grip on my pen tighten until my knuckles turned white. She wasn't just talking about engineering. She was telling Keifer that he was playing in a smaller league by staying with the "Watson.tradition"—and by extension, me.

The "Cold" Flirtation

[Keifer's POV]

I felt the temperature drop the moment Kiara sat down. Unlike Yuri, who was loud and erratic, Kiara was a sniper. She moved with a calculated grace that was designed to intimidate.

"Ambition is useless if the structure collapses under its own weight, Kiara," I said, my voice flat. I didn't move away, but I didn't lean in either. I kept my eyes on the blueprint.

"It only collapses if the engineer is afraid of the math," she whispered. She leaned closer, her long, black hair falling forward, nearly touching my arm. She looked up at me through her lashes, her dark eyes devoid of warmth but full of a predatory interest. "You have a brilliant mind, Keifer. It's a waste to see it tethered to someone who only understands the 'classic' equations. A Watson needs a Chen to truly.dominate the Asian market. Don't you think our 'wavelengths' are more... compatible?"

It was a direct hit. She wasn't even hiding it. She was offering him a merger—of business and blood.

I looked at Jay. She was staring at Kiara, her eyes flashing with a brilliance that made the "Mechanical Iceberg" look like a melting puddle.

The Queen's Counter-Calculation

[Jay's POV]

I didn't scream. I didn't make a scene. That's what a Mariano would do. A Watson-to-be uses logic as a blade.

I reached across the table, my hand landing firmly on top of Keifer's. The sapphire on my finger caught the light, flashing a brilliant blue right in Kiara's face.

"Compatibility isn't just about 'wavelengths', Kiara," I said, my voice calm but vibrating with a hidden edge. "It's about the foundation. You're talking about optimization, but you're ignoring the most important variable in this entire equation."

Kiara finally looked at me, her eyes narrowing. "And what variable is that, Jay?"

"Trust," I said. "Keifer doesn't use the Watson Standard because he's 'safe.' He uses it because it's a promise. And his ambition? It's currently focused on a project you aren't qualified to consult on."

"Oh?" Kiara arched a perfectly groomed eyebrow. "And what project is that?"

Keifer didn't wait for me to answer. He turned his head, looking Kiara dead in the eye, and then he reached up, taking my hand and bringing it to his lips. He kissed my knuckles, his eyes never leaving Kiara's.

"The project is called 'Our Future'," Keifer said, his voice a low, warning growl. "And the blueprints are already finalized. There's no room for a consultant, Kiara. Especially one who thinks a 15% optimization is worth more than a lifetime constant."

The Retreat into 413

The walk back to the dorms was silent until the door of Room 413 was locked.

"She was touching you," I said, the words spilling out before I could stop them. I paced the floor, my mind replaying the way she leaned into his space. "She was trying to 'optimize' you, Keifer! As if you're a machine she can just upgrade!"

Keifer watched me for a moment, a slow, dark smirk spreading across his face. He didn't look annoyed; he looked... delighted.

"Are you jealous, Genius?" he asked, stepping into my path and catching my waist.

"I am calculating the probability of me throwing her laptop out a window!" I snapped.

Keifer laughed, a rich, genuine sound that broke the tension. He pulled me hard against him, his arms locking around me. "She's cold, Jay. She's all logic and no soul. She could offer me a 100% optimization of the entire world, and it wouldn't mean a thing if you weren't standing at the center of it."

He leaned down, his lips brushing mine, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Yuri tried to fire you up, and Kiara tried to freeze me out. But they both forgot one thing."

"What?" I breathed.

"They're fighting against a law of nature," Keifer murmured. "The Watson-Jay constant is unbreakable. Let them flirt. Let them try to solve us. They'll just end up with a 'Divide by Zero' error."

I smiled, finally relaxing into his hold. "Calculations confirmed, Keif."
