Chapter 48 - Chapter 47 new couple

The Structural Integrity of Love

[Jay's POV]

Thursday didn't start with an equation or a threat. It started with Calix looking like he was about to vibrate out of his skin.

He had been pacing the hallway outside Section 1-A since 7:00 AM, clutching a small, 3D-printed model in his hand. It wasn't just any model; it was a miniature, interlocking heart made of high-tensile resin—something he had spent forty-eight hours straight designing in the lab.

"Jay, is the alignment off? Does the hinge look too mechanical?" Calix whispered, practically vibrating as I walked past.

"Calix, it's perfect," I said, offering him a supportive smile. "Mica loves your 'mechanical' side. Just breathe."

As the bell rang, the Squad filed into the lecture hall. Mica sat in her usual spot, chatting with Ella and Rakki, completely unaware that the atmosphere in the room was at 100% humidity due to Calix's nervous sweat.

The "Live" Proposal

[Keifer's POV]

I sat next to Jay, my arm draped over her chair, still feeling the lingering protective edge from yesterday's run-in with Yuri. But even I had to crack a smile when Calix stood up before the Professor arrived.

"Um... everyone? Can I have a second?" Calix's voice cracked, and the room went silent. Even Yuri, with his fiery red hair, and Kiara, with her icy stare, looked up from their tablets.

Calix walked over to Mica's desk. He didn't have a bouquet of red camellias like Yuri; he had a piece of engineering.

"Mica," he said, his voice steadier now. "In physics, we talk about 'Potential Energy'—the energy stored in an object because of its position. For three years, I've had a lot of potential energy sitting next to you. But I'm tired of it being potential. I want it to be kinetic. I want us to move together."

He placed the 3D-printed heart on her desk. When he pressed a small button on the side, the heart unfolded, revealing a delicate silver band nestled inside.

"Mica, will you be my 'Constant'? Will you officially be my girlfriend?"

The silence lasted exactly three seconds before Mica let out a sob-laugh and lunged across the desk, nearly tackling him. "YES! You nerd, of course yes!"

The Teasing Storm

The lecture hall erupted. It wasn't just a cheer; it was a riot.

"FINALLY!" Rory bellowed, standing on his chair. "I've spent more on coffee for Calix's venting sessions than I have on my own tuition! I'm sending you an invoice, Mica!"

"Look at them!" Freya squealed, snapping photos. "The 'Mechanical Couple'! Their children are going to be born with blueprints in their hands!"

Does this mean we have to stop calling you 'Calix the Single'?" Erdix teased, poking Calix in the ribs as the new couple sat down, glowing with embarrassment and joy. "Can we call you 'Calix the Attached' now?"

"Or 'Calix under Management'!" Mayo added, causing a fresh wave of laughter.

Even the Professor, who had just walked in, shook his head with a small smile. "Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs... oh, wait, not yet. Let's stick to the syllabus before I fail the 'Official Couple' for lack of focus."

The Shift in Gravity

[Jay's POV]

I watched them—Calix and Mica whispering to each other, their hands joined under the desk. It was beautiful. It was a reminder of why we were all fighting so hard to survive this university.

I felt a hand slide into mine. I looked over at Keifer. His eyes were soft, the jealousy from yesterday replaced by a quiet, deep contentment.

"One couple down," he whispered, leaning close so only I could hear. "How many more to go in this squad?"

"Rory is going to be the hardest to pair off," I joked, nodding toward Rory who was currently trying to convince Felix that they should throw a 'Couples Gala' just to make the singles feel bad.

"He'll find his match," Keifer murmured. He looked back at the door, where Yuri and Kiara were watching the scene. Yuri looked bored, but Kiara's eyes were fixed on the silver band on Mica's finger.

For a moment, the 'New Variables' didn't seem so threatening. They were outside the circle. They didn't understand that the Watson-Mariano power wasn't just about grades or money—it was about this. The way the squad protected its own.

"We should do something for them," I said. "A celebration in Room 413 tonight?"

"Calculations confirmed," Keifer said, kissing my temple. "But tell Rory if he brings his 'Singles Awareness' playlist, I'm locking him in the hallway."
