Chapter 74 - Chapter 73 kuya angelo

[Jay's POV]

The air in the living room was thick with the scent of toasted marshmallows and the warmth of the roaring fireplace, but as we descended the stairs, the "K-Line" chaos suddenly hit a wall of absolute silence.

I stopped on the last step, my heart skipping a beat. My eyes locked onto a figure standing by the grand window, speaking quietly with Pappa Keizer. He was tall, poised, and carried an aura of quiet authority that I recognized in my soul.

Angelo.

My breath hitched. My cousin—the only man in the entire extended family tree who had ever treated me like a human being rather than a biological asset. Unlike the rest of the cold-blooded Marianos, Angelo was a Fernandez. He was the son of my mother's favorite brother, and he carried the warmth of that lineage like a shield.

"Hello, Kuya!" I cried out, my voice cracking with a joy I hadn't expected to feel.

I didn't care about my "Empress" composure. I bolted across the marble floor and threw my arms around him. Angelo let out a surprised huff of air before his arms locked around me, pulling me into a protective, brotherly embrace that felt like a sanctuary. He smelled like expensive cedar and home.

"Jay-Jay," he murmured into my hair, using the nickname only he was allowed to use. He pulled back, his hands on my shoulders as he scanned my face with intense concern. "Look at you. You've lost weight. Are you eating? Are you okay?"

"I'm okay, Kuya," I smiled, though my eyes were stinging. "But what are you doing here? How do you even know the Watsons?"

Angelo raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk touching his lips. "I should be asking you that, little bird. I come here to visit an old friend and find my favorite cousin hiding in the mountains?"

"Friend?" I blinked, confused.

Suddenly, Keifer stepped up beside me. I expected him to be his usual protective, jealous self, but instead, he had a wide, genuine grin on his face—the kind of look he only gave to people he truly respected.

"Hello, Boss," Keifer said, extending a hand. "It's been a while."

My jaw practically hit the floor. "Boss?"

"How are you, Keifer?" Angelo laughed, gripping Keifer's hand and pulling him into a brief, manly shoulder-hug.

Keifer looked at me, then back at Angelo, his eyes lighting up with realization. "Wait... Angelo, is this the cousin you've been talking about for years? The 'Genius Little Bird' you said I needed to meet because she was the only person who could match my brain?"

Angelo burst into a loud, booming laugh. "And Keifer... is this the fiancée you've been bragging about for the last two months? The one you said changed your entire 'system' and made you realize you weren't the center of the universe?"

They both erupted into laughter, shaking hands again while I stood between them, my mind spinning through a thousand calculations.

"Jay, meet the man who made me who I am," Keifer said, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me into his side. "Angelo was my senior back in our elite prep school. He was my mentor, my captain, and the 'Boss' who taught me that being strong isn't about being cold—it's about protecting what matters. He's the reason I didn't turn into a complete robot."

And Keifer was the most talented, most arrogant brat I ever had to train," Angelo teased, winking at me. "I spent three years trying to humble him. I see you finally finished the job for me, Jay."

We all moved to the oversized sofas, the atmosphere shifting from "Family Holiday" to "Grand Reunion." Even Keigan and Keiran sat quietly, looking at Angelo with wide-eyed respect.

As we chatted, I watched Angelo. He was a Michel Angelo Fernandez, and even though the Mariano blood ran through his veins, it had been purified by the Fernandez warmth. He didn't ask about my grades or my "value" to the family. He asked if I was happy. He asked if Keifer was treating me right.

"I was so worried when I heard you were engaged to a Watson," Angelo said, his eyes softening as he looked at me. "I was ready to come down here and tear this house apart if they were forcing you. But then I saw the way Keifer looked at you when you walked down those stairs... and I knew my 'Little Bird' finally found a nest that won't cage her."

I leaned my head on Keifer's shoulder, my hand resting in Angelo's. For the first time, the two worlds of my life—my past protection and my future love—were sitting at the same table. The math was no longer a mystery.
