The Global Tease
[Jay's POV]
I was nestled into the sofa, buried in a mountain of cashmere blankets and wearing Keifer's oversized white shirt, when my phone began to vibrate on the coffee table. It wasn't just a notification; it was a rhythmic, aggressive buzzing that signaled the arrival of a massive digital storm.
Incoming Group Video Call: The Engineering Squad (12 participants)
"Oh no," I whispered, my heart rate spiking. I looked at Keifer, who was currently peeling a grape for me with the focus of a scientist. "Keif, it's everyone. I can't hide."
"Let them wait," Keifer grumbled, though he reached over and swiped 'Accept.' "If we don't answer, Freya will probably fly a drone through the window to check on us."
The screen exploded into a twelve-way split of chaotic dorm rooms, holiday kitchens, and messy bedrooms. Mica, Calix, Erdix, Freya, Felix, David, Rory, Cin, Rakki, Ella, Mayo, and Kit—the entire inner circle was there, vibrating with energy.
"JAY! WE WANTED TO—" Mica's voice cut out as she squinted at the screen. The entire group went silent for a micro-second, a collective digital intake of breath.
"Wait... stop," Freya commanded, leaning so close to her camera her forehead filled the screen. "Look at her face. Look at the pixels. Jay, why do you look like you've been photoshopped with a 'Heavenly Glow' filter?"
"Holy hell," Calix breathed, his eyes wide. "She's literally radiant. The saturation levels are off the charts."
Rory let out a low whistle. "She isn't just glowing. She looks... different. Soft. And she's wearing a shirt that is definitely four sizes too big for her. A white shirt."
I felt the heat climb from my toes to my forehead. I didn't say a word. I couldn't. I simply leaned over and buried my face into the crook of Keifer's neck, my hands clutching his arm as I tried to disappear into his chest.
"Jay?" Mica's voice dropped into a high-pitched, conspiratorial squeal. "Jay, look at me. Look at the camera. Did you... did you two finally... you know... merge systems?"
Still hiding my face, I gave a slow, barely perceptible nod against Keifer's chest.
"FUCK!" David shouted, jumping out of his chair.
"GODDAMNIT!" Felix roared, slamming his hand on his desk. "I LOST THE BET! I HAD 'NEW YEAR'S EVE' IN THE POOL!"
"WHOOOOOOOOO!" Mayo and Kit started high-fiving in the background of their shared screen. "THE PRINCE FINALLY CLAIMED THE EMPRESS!"
[Keifer's POV]
I sat there, feeling Jay's burning face pressed against my chest, and I couldn't help the smug, arrogant grin that spread across my face. I wrapped my arm around her, pulling her closer, effectively shielding her from the twelve pairs of prying eyes.
"Yes," I said, my voice deep and completely unapologetic. "The math is finished. Any further questions from the gallery?"
"QUESTIONS?" Erdix shouted, frantically typing on a calculator. "Keifer, the structural integrity of the department just shifted! You've reached 100% synchronization! Is the glow a side effect of Watson DNA or just pure satisfaction?"
"I'm betting on the satisfaction," Ella winked, laughing. "Look at Keifer. He looks like he just conquered a small country and bought the moon."
"I did," I replied, kissing the top of Jay's head. "I bought this specific little corner of the world, and none of you are invited."
"Aww, don't be like that, Kuya Keifer!" Rakki teased. "We need details! Was there music? Did you use your engineering brain to optimize the... uh... friction?"
"RAKKI!" Jay shrieked from my chest, her voice muffled but mortified.
"Seriously though," Cin added, a rare smile on his face. "We're happy for you, Jay. You look peaceful. For a girl who used to live in a Mariano-sized panic attack, this is the best version of you yet."
"She's staying in this version," I stated firmly. "And she's staying on this sofa. Mamma has her on a 'Rest and Recovery' protocol, so if any of you start telling stressful stories about the department, I'm disconnecting the call."
"Oh, look at him!" Rory laughed. "The 'Protective Alpha' mode has been activated. Jay, blink twice if he's hovering too much! Does he let you breathe, or are you permanently attached to his side now?"
Jay finally peeked out, one eye visible from behind my shoulder. "I... I think I like the hovering," she whispered shyly.
The Squad erupted again. It was twenty minutes of relentless teasing, dirty jokes from Felix that I had to mute, and genuine, heartfelt congratulations from the girls. Even through the screen, the energy was infectious. These were our people—the ones who had watched the "Watson-Jay Constant" evolve from a cold rivalry into a soul-deep bond.
When we finally hung up, the room felt quiet again, but the air was still buzzing with the warmth of their friendship.
[Jay's POV]
I leaned back, my face still warm, but a huge smile was stuck on my lips. "They're never going to let us live this down, are they?"
"Never," Keifer agreed, pulling me back into his lap. "But they're right about one thing."
"What's that?"
"The glow," he whispered, his eyes dark with that intense devotion I loved. "It looks beautiful on you, Jay. It's the color of us."
I closed my eyes, resting my head on his shoulder. The Squad knew. The family knew. The world knew. And for the first time in my life, I wasn't afraid of being seen. I was exactly where I belonged.
