Chapter 12 - The Second Shard

The transition from a pulsing heart to a continuous kinetic flow was like switching from a flickering candle to a steady-state laser. Gu Xian moved through the ventilation ducts of the Azure Peak Sect with a terrifying, liquid grace. There was no sound of a heartbeat, no vibration of blood against arterial walls—only the faint, high-frequency whine of his Magnetic-Hydrodynamic drive.

Internal Status: Blood velocity: 4.2 meters per second. Oxygen distribution: 100% efficiency. Thermal waste: Negligible (redirected to Mirror-Membrane).

He reached the "Ancient Library." Unlike the rest of the sect, which was built of ivory and gold, the library was a monolith of cold, black basalt. It was a place of silence and dust, guarded by "Blind Archivists"—cultivators who had traded their sight for the ability to sense the "intent" of those who entered.

To them, Gu Xian was invisible. He had no "intent." He was simply a moving set of variables.

He slipped through the basalt doors and entered the Restricted Tier. He wasn't looking for cultivation manuals. He was looking for the Second Shard.

Inside the "Vault" of his mind, the first shard (Earth) was already vibrating. A second anchor had been dropped into his consciousness, and the tether was pulling tight.

[Second Shard: Integration Commencing.]

[Origin: R'lyeh-Prime (The World of Occult Geometry).]

[Knowledge Stream: Non-Euclidean Spatial Manipulation, Esoteric Mathematics, Vector-Phasing.]

Gu Xian's knees buckled. His silver-violet eyes rolled back as the "Software" of the second world flooded into his "Hardware."

If the Earth shard provided the Chemistry and Physics, the R'lyeh shard provided the Geometry. It was the knowledge of how to perceive the world not as a 3D space, but as a folded sheet of paper where the shortest distance between two points was a puncture, not a line.

"The world is... misaligned," Gu Xian whispered, his voice sounding like two stones grinding together.

He looked at the library shelves. To his new vision, the rows of books weren't straight. They were curved into a four-dimensional spiral. He saw "pockets" of space where the Azure Peak Sect had hidden their most dangerous secrets—places that were "behind" the air itself.

Information Retrieval: Vector-Phasing.

Concept: By vibrating the Sapphire-bone structure at a frequency that matches the 'fold' of local space, physical matter can occupy the gaps between the atoms of the air.

"Intruder."

The voice was dry, like crumbling parchment. A Blind Archivist stood ten meters away. He was an old man, his eyes sewn shut with silver thread. He didn't use a sword; he held a brush made of Ghost-Hair.

"You have no pulse," the Archivist noted, his head tilting in a predatory manner. "No heat. No Qi-signature. You are a void in the shape of a boy. But you are here."

"I am a guest of the variables," Gu Xian said.

The Archivist didn't waste breath. He swept his brush through the air, and a wave of "Ink-Qi" exploded outward. It wasn't a physical attack; it was a conceptual one. It was designed to "paint" the intruder's soul, making them visible to the mountain's defensive arrays.

Gu Xian didn't dodge.

He utilized the Second Shard. He calculated the vector of the incoming Ink-Qi and, using his Kinetic Heart, surged a massive amount of bio-electricity into his Neural-Lattice.

Vector-Phase: Initiated.

To the Archivist, it looked like Gu Xian simply... blurred. The Ink-Qi passed through his chest as if he were made of smoke. The boy didn't move an inch; the space he occupied simply became "non-linear" for a fraction of a second.

"What... what kind of art is this?" the Archivist gasped, his silver-stitched eyes bleeding.

"It is not an art," Gu Xian said, appearing behind the Archivist instantly. He didn't walk there. He had simply redefined his coordinates. "It is a calculation of the fifth dimension. Your ink requires a surface to cling to. I have simply removed the surface."

Gu Xian tapped the Archivist on the back of the neck with a Sapphire-hard finger.

Resonance: Sleep.

The old man collapsed. Gu Xian didn't kill him. Death was a waste of data.

He walked to the center of the Restricted Tier, where a single, crystalline cube sat on a pedestal. It was the "Master Record" of the Azure Peak—a data-storage device from the Old World.

He placed his hand on the cube. His Neural-Lattice interfaced with the crystalline matrix.

[Data Link Established.]

[Downloading: History of the Collapse. Blueprint of the Great Myriad Soul-Scatter.]

As the information flooded in, Gu Xian's expression finally broke. A cold, thin smile touched his lips.

The "Great Myriad Soul-Scatter" wasn't a cultivation technique. It was a Migration Protocol. His former self hadn't shattered his soul out of madness; he had done it because this world was a "Server" that was failing.

"The twenty-one shards are the keys," Gu Xian murmured. "And I am the one who has to reformat the world."

Internal Log: Second Shard 40% integrated. Spatial awareness: Absolute. Reaction speed: Nigh-Instantaneous.

Next Objective: The 'Sun-Severing' Sect. They possess the Third Shard—the fragment from the world of 'Clockwork Flesh'.
