Chapter 55 - Chapter 50

Chapter 50

After probing with the system's prescription function to make sure Ye Fei Fei had truly left his courtyard and wasn't hanging around, he walked back and sat down.

Lin Feng sat quietly for a long moment, his fingers tapping lightly against the table as his thoughts raced.

Right…

He leaned forward, frowning a little.

The dark energy from Zhao Lei is still inside me. To get rid of it, I need the Body Purging Pill. But to refine that pill, I need a good alchemy cauldron, and those are expensive. Then there's the family competition coming up soon.

"A decent alchemy cauldron..."

He muttered under his breath before shaking his head with a helpless smile.

Ordinary cauldrons wouldn't be able to withstand refining a Body Purging Pill, and those of sufficient quality were worth a fortune.

Fortunately, he still had the second-tier alchemist salary he collected from the association earlier because the materials he brought were provided for free by the Martial Pavilion Master. Thinking about it now, Lin Feng felt even more grateful to her and resolved to someday return the favor to her tenfold.

Shaking his head and waving off the distracting thoughts, he returned to the main issue.

"Although the salary is substantial, it is still far from enough to get me a good cauldron. Besides, the materials for the Body Purging Pill haven't been purchased," he said while rubbing his temples, feeling as though his head was about to burst.

"That's it!"

As if having a sudden burst of inspiration, Lin Feng had an epiphany. He couldn't help but slap his forehead and kick his feet, feeling frustrated that he hadn't thought of it sooner.

"How can I be so stupid? What profession lacks money the least?"

"Of course, it's an alchemist. It's almost a money-printing job. All I have to do is make a few pills and sell them, then sit back and watch the money pile up."

"Hmm, but regular pills won't work since the pill marketplace has already been monopolized by the Alchemist Association and the Martial Pavilion. Why would anybody buy from me, a random alchemist, when they could purchase the same pill at the same price from the trusted Association?"

"But since I have a great alchemist inheritance, then why don't I use it to modify those existing pill recipes to double their potency or remove some of the side effects, then sell them on the black market?"

"Well then, it's decided. Let's go."

He stood up and left his courtyard and the Lin Family estate discreetly, making his way through the familiar streets.

As for why Lin Feng decided not to sell the improved pills openly, it was because for over thousands of years these pills had remained the same. Many geniuses had come and gone, with many having tried to improve them but failed, including many eighth-tier alchemists.

As for why he was confident he could succeed when even eighth-tier alchemists had failed, it was because although the inheritance he received was only a partial inheritance covering tiers one to four, it was a complete knowledge of them, including their fundamental structures, so it shouldn't be that difficult to improve them.

According to the alchemist inheritance he received, many of these pills were created tens of thousands of years ago when there were no alchemy inheritances and alchemy was still in its infancy, with many alchemists having to research medicinal properties and effects on their own.

These pill recipes, from tier-one recipes to tier-eight recipes, were created through the combined efforts of many eighth-tier alchemists during that era, who came together to leave behind a legacy and make the path of alchemy much easier for future generations.

Over the next thousands of years, these recipes were refined further, not only increasing their purity and yield, but fundamentally the recipes remained the same because, according to the information, there isn't much difference between alchemists of the same tier. The only differences lie in the profoundness of their skill, the purity of the elixir, and the amount of yield.

Only when there is a qualitative change in one's understanding of the Alchemy Dao can the fundamental structure of a pill recipe be changed and improved, which can only be brought about through advancement in an alchemist's tier.

And what is above an eighth-tier alchemist?

Of course, a ninth-tier alchemist.

But those were said to have vanished from the continent even longer ago than Martial Emperors.

But the feeling Lin Feng got when recalling the various pill recipes given by the system's legacy was one of transcending the various pill formulas. Such a feeling could only be brought about if he had received the legacy of a legendary ninth-tier alchemist.

Although it was only partial, as long as he kept signing in, it was only a matter of time before he received the full legacy and became capable of refining a mythical ninth-tier pill, which was said to bring back the dead and make one immortal on the spot.

How could Lin Feng not be excited?

Removing his mind from these useless thoughts, he quickly made his way back to the Alchemist Association for the second time that day.

He did not forget to purchase a full-face concealing mask and a black cloak that wrapped his entire body, concealing his true identity.

As he stepped into the Association lobby, he did not feel awkward or out of place because there were many people in the same outfit as him, preferring to remain unknown.

Imagine being seriously injured and coming to buy healing pills without concealing your identity, alerting your enemy to your condition, then being besieged and killed. Wouldn't the loss outweigh the gain?

Which is why many people dressed discreetly.

As Lin Feng made his way through the first floor, he was approached by a young attendant.

"Good afternoon, sir. How may I assist you?" she asked with a sweet smile on her face, not feeling weird about his dressing.

"Hmm, I'm here to purchase an alchemy cauldron," he said in a deep and raspy voice, simulating an old man's voice.

Hearing the stranger say he was there to purchase a cauldron, the woman's smile became even brighter, thinking about the commission she was going to earn even if she sold the cheapest one.

"Right this way, sir."

She bowed and gestured for Lin Feng to follow her upstairs.
