Chapter 57 - The Warmth of Aftermath

Jay's POV

The world was a thick, suffocating grey. Everything felt heavy, as if my eyelids were weighted with lead and my limbs were buried deep in wet sand. My head throbbed with a rhythmic, pulsing heat that made every thought feel like it was shattering against glass.

Slowly, the grey began to thin. I could hear a steady, rhythmic beep.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

It was annoying. It was persistent. It was the only thing anchoring me to the room. I tried to move my hand, but it felt like it belonged to someone else. My fingers twitched, brushing against coarse, sterile fabric.

I forced my eyes open. The light was blinding, a harsh, clinical white that made my vision swim. I blinked once, twice, until the blurred shapes in front of me began to solidify.

"Jay-Jay?"

The voice was soft, barely a whisper, but it sounded like a thunderclap in the silence. I turned my head—a mistake that sent a bolt of white-hot pain down my neck—and saw Denzel.

He looked like he hadn't slept in a century. His eyes were bloodshot, his jaw stubbled. Beside him, Grace was leaning forward, her hands clasped so tight her knuckles were white.

"Keif?" my voice was a rasp, a dry, broken sound that hurt my throat.

"She's awake," Grace choked out, a sob catching in her throat. She reached out, tentatively touching my shoulder as if I might break. "Oh God, Jay, you're awake."

Denzel stood up so fast his chair scraped loudly against the floor. "I'm getting the doctor. Don't move. Don't try to talk too much. Just... stay right there."

He was out the door before I could respond, his footsteps echoing down the hallway.

I looked at Grace. My mind was a fog of fractured memories—headlights, a deafening roar, the smell of smoke, and Keifer's voice screaming my name.

"Where... where are the others?" I managed to ask, my heart beginning to hammer against my ribs. "Keifer? My mom?"

Grace squeezed my hand. Her eyes were swimming with tears, but she forced a small, shaky smile. "They're on their way, Jay. They had... business to take care of. Necessary business. They've been here every second, I promise. They only left because we forced them to get some air. They'll be back before you can even finish a glass of water."

I closed my eyes for a moment, the relief washing over me like a cold wave. They were safe. He was safe.

The next few minutes were a blur of white coats and flashing lights. The doctor checked my pupils, my vitals, and asked me questions I barely had the energy to answer.

I was "stable," they said. A "miracle," they called it. I didn't feel like a miracle. I felt like I'd been put through a meat grinder.

As the doctors moved to the corner of the room to consult, the door burst open.

It wasn't a doctor. It was a hurricane.

Keifer.

He looked like a man who had walked through hell and back. He was still wearing the same clothes from the night of the crash—stained with soot, grease, and spots of dried blood. His hair was a mess, and his eyes were wild with a desperation that broke my heart.

The moment our eyes met, the air left the room.

"Jay!"

He was at my side in a heartbeat. He didn't care about the tubes or the monitors. He leaned over, pulling me into a hug that was both incredibly gentle and fiercely possessive. He buried his face in the crook of my neck, and I felt the jagged, shaking breath he drew in.

"You're here," he choked out, his voice muffled against my skin. "You're actually here."

He pulled back just enough to look at me, his hands framing my face like I was the most precious thing in the universe. Then, he pressed his lips to my forehead in a long, lingering kiss. It felt like he was trying to pour his very soul into me, a silent promise that he would never let go again.

"I thought I lost you," he whispered, his forehead resting against mine. "When that car went up... I thought the world ended."

I reached up, my hand shaking as I touched his cheek. My thumb brushed over a small cut on his jaw. "I'm not going anywhere, Keifer. I'm not going to leave you that easily."

He let out a watery, broken laugh, kissing my palms. Behind him, the room began to fill. It was like a dam had broken.

My mom, Jeana, rushed to my other side, her face streaked with tears as she kissed my hand.

Mom Serina followed, her eyes full of a fierce, protective love. Then came the brothers—Aries, Angelo, Kyle, Percy—and the Section E boys, standing like a wall of silent sentinels at the back of the room.

The girls—Jane, Mia, Freya, Ella, Mica, Rakki, and Aya—crowded around the foot of the bed. Jane looked exhausted but triumphant; Ella and Rakki looked like they were still vibrating with a leftover energy I couldn't quite place.

I looked at Keifer, then at the brothers, noticing the bruised knuckles and the cold, hard set of their jaws.

"You made him pay, didn't you?" I asked softly.

Keifer didn't lie to me. He never did. He leaned back, his eyes darkening for a split second with the memory of the warehouse. "I made him regret the breath in his lungs, Jay-Jay. Not only me, others also made him realised whom did he mess with.

"We made sure everyone involved—from the driver to the cowards in the mansion—felt the weight of what they tried to do to you." Angelo stepped forward, his voice a low growl.

"They are gone , Sugar," Jane said, her voice firm. "They're in custody. The evidence Aya found... it's enough to bury them for three lifetimes. They'll never touch this family again."

I looked at all of them—the men who had become monsters for me, and the women who had become executioners. My heart swelled with a love so intense it was almost painful.

"Come here," I whispered, reaching out to the others.

Aries was the first to move, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking my hand. "Don't you ever do that again, monkey. My heart can't take another GPS spike like that."

"I'll try to keep my car on all four wheels next time," I teased weakly, making him chuckle.

Kyle and Percy leaned in, each giving me a gentle squeeze. "We've got the hospital on lockdown, Jay," Percy said. "Not even a fly gets in here without a background check."

The girls pushed forward then. Mia, Freya,Grace and Mica hugging me.Ella and Rakki hugged my legs over the blankets. "We broke their tea set, Jay," Ella whispered with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "And their legacy."

Aya held up her tablet, showing me a glimpse of the headlines already hitting the news. "I wiped them out digitally, too. There's nothing left of their shell companies. You're the sole head now. Completely."

My mom leaned down, brushing a stray hair from my face. "Just rest now, my brave girl. The war is over. We're all here. We aren't leaving."

Keifer climbed onto the small sliver of bed beside me, pulling my head onto his chest. I listened to the steady, thumping rhythm of his heart—the same heart that had chased me through the fire.

"Everyone," I said, my voice finally finding its strength. "Thank you. For being my family. For being my pack."

The door brust open again this time it was kids . They lunged to me.Shouting "Ate Jay !"

Keigan and Aion squeezed through the forest of legs, their small faces glowing with relief. Leo and Keiren climbed up and sat by my feet. "I told them you were a superhero, Ate. Superheroes always win."

I smiled, closing my eyes as the warmth of the room enveloped me. The pain was still there, and the trauma would take time to fade, but as Keifer tightened his grip and the low murmur of my family's voices filled the air, I knew I was safe

.

The Goddess was back, and her devils were standing guard.
