Silence fell over the desert.
Link collapsed.
Zelda caught him.
For one horrible second she thought—
He coughed, groaning.
She laughed and cried at the same time.
"It's over," she whispered.
Link looked at the normal blue sky above them.
"…We did it."
No glowing marks appeared on their hands.
No divine voice called them.
No destiny remained.
Just wind.
Just life.
Zelda leaned down and kissed him.
Not hurried. Not shy.
Years — lifetimes — of unfinished feelings finally allowed to exist.
When they pulled apart, Link looked stunned.
"…So," he said carefully, "what happens now?"
Zelda smiled warmly.
"Now," she said, "we live."
