The approaching group of people were from military. While Caelan hid beneath the rubble, he also tried to discern the approaching group. Judging from the footsteps, Caelan concluded that this group of people were well trained. As the group approached he realized that these people were divided in several groups.
As they were approaching, the ground started to shake up a bit, and also they were creating a lot noise. by this Caelan understood that they were heavy foot soldiers. he was confused, doing this will attract monsters towards them. He thought to himself "Won't they be hindered if they exposed themselves like this?".
Suddenly Caelan heard some noises of monsters, They were approaching this group of soldiers.
When the monsters came in the range the soldiers they were relentlessly slaughtered, not a single one them was left alive. It seems they were attracting these monsters towards themselves so that the survivors can run to safety.
Unfortunately there was not a single survivor left in this area except Caelan who was hiding.
After seeing the devastated town, they used the thermal vision glass or simply thermal glasses to see if any survivors are left. Even under the debris they didn't find a single living being nor single corpse. [ *1 see in author thoughts. ]
"How is this even possible, this was a home for nearly 200,000 people. Even if they are dead there should be at least single corpse." The commander of squad was Bewildered.
Suddenly a soldier saw Caelan under the debris with thermal vision, "Commander, I think there is a survivor left in the debris".
"Are you sure there is a survivor? Show me" The commander was taken a back by this discovery. He ordered them to rescue him carefully as was not certain that he is a friend or foe.

"Sir, his Name is Aethelric Caelan"
Suddenly, root like tentacles erupted from the ground, grabbed two soldiers who were near Caelan, and swallowed them whole without leaving a single trace. Witnessing this scene, the squad members were terrified.
The Squad Commander found something unusual hiding in the ground, He couldn't Identify what was it as the ground covering it from thermal detection. 'Wait! , how can I see what's inside the ground, and top of that its too cold compared to the surroundings, that means there is a creature inside with much more cold compared to the surroundings' .
'But what type of creature is so large and have extensions like these?'.
'Wait!! ,is it what I think it is?', a sudden realization struck him.
The tentacles gained more strength, and the thing underground started moving.
"RETREAT!!!" He screamed at top of his lungs.
"That is nightmare type monster, it's impossible to kill it, JUST RUN!!" The commander explained while running. When they were about exit the center of the town the tentacles started going into a frenzy, in that frenzy it killed nearly 6 soldiers in instant.
"DAMN IT!! , I wont die ju---" the tentacle pierced him through his throat.
