Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Unfrozen Crown

I lay motionless in the snow crater, staring up at the dark, freezing sky as Doto's airship disappeared into the fog.

I closed my eyes and activated [Remote Observation], instantly linking my vision to my Shadow Soldier attached to Koyuki.

My perspective shifted. I was inside the metallic cabin of Doto's airship.

"The Hex Crystal," Doto demanded, his voice echoing off the steel walls. "Hand it over, Koyuki. Your father's little trinket is the key to unlocking this nation's hidden treasure. With it, my military superiority over the Five Great Nations will be absolute."

Little did he know, I laughed internally. Between the Chakra Armor and his mechanical ingenuity, he was definitely a viable threat, but his ultimate ambition was a complete joke. The movie's big twist—that Koyuki's dad liquidated the entire national treasury to build a giant climate-changing generator—was going to make him violently upset. The kind of upset that ends with him taking it out on the traumatized teenager currently in his custody. So, I need to get over there before he figures that out.

Through the shadow's eyes, I watched Koyuki numbly reach into her coat and hand over the crystal. Doto snatched it eagerly, but the moment he inspected the facets, his triumphant grin twisted into a snarl.

"A fake!" Doto roared, throwing the glass replica against the wall. "Where's the real one?!"

Koyuki looked genuinely confused until her eyes widened in realization. She had been unconscious when they dragged her back to the ship.

Right, Kakashi made the switch, I thought, recalling the events of the plot. I completely forgot about that detail, too. As fun as these movies were, it's been a minute since I've watched them.

"No matter," Doto scoffed, regaining his composure as the airship docked at his towering, mechanical fortress. "Kakashi will bring the real one to me soon enough. Or else."

Doto's guards dragged Koyuki out of the airship and into the cold, metallic corridors of the fortress. They forced a heavy, blinking mechanical collar around her neck, locking it tightly.

"An explosive collar, just as a precaution," he sneered before his guards shoved her into a holding cell and locked the heavy iron bars.

I severed the connection and opened my eyes. The blinding snow was falling heavily around my crater. I stood up, dusted the frost off my pants, and used my shadow as a homing beacon. I wasn't going to just wait for the rest of my team to find me and formulate a rescue plan; I was going straight for the head myself.

While moving through the snow, I mentally commanded my Shadow Soldier attached to Koyuki to slip out. The 2D shadow slid across the floor of the cell, slipping through the iron bars and slithering up the corridor wall until it settled securely on a high, unlit ledge where the patrolling guards wouldn't spot it.

Perfect, I thought as I activated [Shadow Exchange].

The snowy forest around me immediately dissolved into a vortex of black smoke, and a split second later, I was standing on the high, darkened ledge inside Doto's fortress.

The moment I stepped foot in the fortress my System's prompt chimed.

[SUB-QUEST GENERATED: Damsel in Distress]

Objective: Defeat the numerous fortress guards (0/100) to acquire the master override key for the explosive collar.

Bonus Condition 1: Do not use Shadow Soldiers.

Bonus Condition 2: Do not trigger the alarm system.

Bonus Condition 3: Do not allow guards to trigger alarm system

So, it's search and destroy, with an emphasis on destroy, I thought, nodding and dismissing the prompt away. Say less.

I dropped silently from the ledge, landing like a feather on the cold steel. The [Stealth] skill wrapped around me, bending light and silencing my movements. To the guards, I was a ghost; moving faster than their eyes could track.

I triggered [Sprint].

I slipped through the cold metallic corridors. I stalked my first target—a heavily armored patrolman rounding a corner. I lunged from the shadows, clamping a hand over his mouth while driving a dagger cleanly through the gap in his neck armor. I dragged his twitching body into a darkened alcove before his radio even hit the floor.

[Guards Defeated: 1/100]

I moved on. Three guards were stationed at a heavy steel door, laughing about the actress they'd just locked up. I appeared in the center of their circle. One guard blinked, his eyes slowly widening as he realized a golden-haired boy was suddenly standing inches from his face. Before he could draw air to scream, I drove a palm into his chest, collapsing his lungs instantly.

I spun, my leg connecting with the second guard's temple with a sickening thud, sending him spinning into the wall. The third reached for his radio, but I didn't let him. I grabbed his wrist, and drove my dagger into his exposed throat.

[Guards Defeated: 4/100]

I moved again, finding another group of three guards standing by a heating vent further down the hall, complaining about the cold. I dashed past them in a blur of motion, slicing their hamstrings to drop them, then snapping their necks before they could even draw breath to scream.

[Guards Defeated: 7/100]

I became a whirlwind of efficient motion. I pulled guards into darkened doorways, their boots dragging briefly on the metal floor before going still. I used the verticality of the fortress, jumping from pipes to rafters, dropping down like a guillotine. The Chakra Armor they bragged about was useless; my raw stats bypassed their defenses as if the metal were made of wet paper.

[Guards Defeated: 47/100... 82/100... 99/100...]

The final guard stood outside Koyuki's cell, trembling as he looked at the empty hallway, sensing the invisible death approaching. He fumbled for his radio, but a cold hand clamped over his mouth from behind.

"Shh," I whispered into his ear. "You're the last one."

A quick twist, and the final body slumped to the floor.

[Guards Defeated: 100/100]

[Bonus Conditions Met: Perfect Stealth maintained.]

[Item Acquired: Master Override Key]

I wiped the blood off my daggers, disengaged my [Stealth], and stepped up to Koyuki's cell. I effortlessly sliced the iron lock with a chakra-infused blade and pushed the door open.

She was huddled in the corner, her knees pulled to her chest, sobbing quietly. The survivor's guilt was crushing her.

"Comfortable?" I asked, stepping out of the darkened entrance.

Her head snapped up, her red and swollen eyes going wide with pure shock. "How... how did you even get in here?!"

Then her expression quickly fell. "It doesn't matter anyway. It's over. Sandayū is dead. Doto's going to win."

"Is that what you believe, or what you know?" I asked.

"It's reality!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking. "There's no happy ending! This is the fact of life!"

"No happy ending? Why not? Because things got harder?" I questioned. "Then I'll make one! I'll chip away until I get one!"

"You're such a child!" she roared, tears streaming down her face. "Quit acting like you know—"

"Do you think I don't know what kind of world this is, Koyuki?" I cut her off, letting my heavy [Presence] fill the tiny cell.

A heavy, suffocating shadow seemed to expand from my feet, causing the temperature in the cell to drop even further than the arctic air outside.

"Do you think I don't know it's survival of the fittest out there? This world filled with nothing but violence, deception, and betrayal?"

She trembled, shrinking back slightly. "I..."

"Weakness is seen as a sin," I said, leaning in close, my voice cold and firm. "If you want to survive, you don't cower in a cell and cry about the people who gave their lives for you. You face your monsters head-on. Sandayū and his men didn't bleed out in the snow for a runaway Princess. They died because they had absolute faith in their future Queen."

I looked directly into her eyes. "So, when are you going to start acting like one?"

The remaining numbness in her eyes completely shattered. The tears spilled over, but the fear was gone.

"Now tell me," I demanded softly. "What do you want?"

"I-I don't want to die..." she sobbed, clenching her fists. "I want to go home... I want to save my nation!"

I nodded, stepping forward and grabbing the heavy collar around her neck. I pressed the override device—a sleek, obsidian cylinder that hummed with a low-frequency pulse—against the locking mechanism. The device vibrated and a sharp electronic chirp fried the collar's internal circuitry system, deactivating its explosive trigger and unlatching the lock. I ripped it off her neck and tossed it onto the floor.

I extended my hand toward her. "Then on your feet, Koyuki. We have a nation to save."

She looked at my hand, took a deep breath, and grabbed it.

[NOTICE: NEW PASSIVE SKILL UNLOCKED]:

[Aura of the Sovereign]: You possess the psychological gravity of a true ruler.

+5 CHA.

Suddenly, the fortress alarms began to blare. A guard from the upper level had finally found one of the bodies, after coming to check why there was silence over the comms.

"Stay close," I ordered, preparing to deal with the incoming force.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shadow Clone Jutsu]

A half-dozen clones materialized around us. We burst out of the cell block, my clones violently clearing the way through the reinforcements as we rushed toward the upper levels of the fortress.

We kicked open the heavy doors to the main courtyard and stepped right into a standoff.

"Naruto!" Sakura shouted, spotting us. "You found her!"

Kakashi, Sasuke, and Sakura were standing in the center of the room, completely surrounded by dozens of Doto's guards, as well as Nadare, and Fubuki.

And standing on the upper balcony was Doto, holding the glowing, real Hex Crystal. He had just forced Kakashi to toss it to him under the threat of detonating Koyuki's collar.

Doto laughed triumphantly, but the sound died in his throat when he looked down and saw Koyuki standing next to me, completely collar-free. "What?! Impossible! How did you—" he snarled, then gritted his teeth and proceeded to press a button on his wrist. "Kill them all!"

As the guards charged Team 7, a set of sleek, mechanical wings extended from Doto's back. He was wearing a custom, pitch-black version of the Chakra Armor. He launched himself into the air, flying toward the massive hangar exit that led to the Rainbow Glacier.

Without missing a beat, I flicked my wrist. A spool of razor-sharp wire hissed through the air, coiling around Doto's ankle.

He scoffed, attempting to overpower me. "You think you can hold me, boy?!"

I didn't try to pull him down. As Doto surged forward, I was yanked off the ground, right behind him, leaving Kakashi and the others to handle the guards. I used the momentum to reel myself in, hand-over-hand, flying through the freezing air behind him like a water-skier.

Doto flew us out across the frozen wasteland, approaching the massive array of upright stone monoliths that hid the climate-changing generator at the Rainbow Glacier. Once we were directly over the monoliths, Doto looked back, smirking as he prepared to cut the wire and drop me.

But he severely underestimated what I was capable of.

I gripped the wire and violently yanked backward mid-air, before jerking it downward. With my monstrous strength at 273, I didn't just drop him—I spiked him into the earth like a meteor. We plummeted together, crashing into the thick ice at the center of the monoliths, kicking up a massive cloud of frost. The impact sent a shockwave through the glacier, shattering the silence of the frozen waste.

I landed in a crouch, the ice cracking beneath my feet, while Doto skidded violently across the glacier, his Black Chakra Armor scraping against the stone.

He slowly pushed himself up, trembling with absolute fury. "You arrogant little brat!" he roared, Hex Crystal clutched like a lifeline in hand. "Do you have any idea who you're dealing with?!"

"Heard some things, but don't care," I responded. His expression quickly twisted with pure rage. "What I do know is that you gotta go, and this place right here is gonna be your final rest spot."

In a fit of rage, Doto slammed the Hex Crystal directly into the circular port on his armor's chest plate.

The reaction was instantaneous. The crystal flared with blinding, multi-colored light, forcefully syncing with the armor's chakra battery. A shockwave of dark, freezing energy blasted outward, forcing me to cross my arms and dig my heels into the ice to avoid being blown back.

My vision immediately flashed with crimson warning screens.

[SYSTEM ALERT!: BOSS BATTLE INITIATED!]

[STATUS: Initiating Boss Scaling... Threat Level upgraded from B to A-Rank.]

Doto levitated off the ground, a suffocating aura of dark purple chakra violently rolled off him. He laughed, the sound distorted and amplified by the mechanical suit. "Once I unlock this treasure, my power will be absolute! I will crush the Five Great Nations, starting with you, and then my worthless niece—!"

"Blah, blah, blah," I said, rolling my shoulders. "Can we skip the villain monologue and get straight to the part where you're dead at my feet?"

Doto roared in fury. "Die! Black Dragon Blizzard!"

He didn't just summon one. Fueled by the 300% system amp, Doto thrust his hands forward, and three massive, swirling dragons made of dark, corrupted snow and concentrated chakra erupted from the glacier, shrieking as they tore through the air toward me.

Huh, guess it won't be as big of a cake walk as I've imagined, I grinned.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: Sprint]

I blurred directly into the path of the incoming dragons, and pulled back my fist, channeling all my raw strength into a single point of impact.

BOOM!

The kinetic shockwave was deafening. The sheer force of the blow shattered the lead chakra construct entirely, blowing the Black Dragon into a harmless mist. I spun, using my momentum to drive a sweeping kick through the neck of the second dragon, before catching the third one by its icy horns and physically ripping it apart with my bare hands.

Doto's jaw dropped. "Impossible!"

He panicked, and closed the distance between us with blinding, amped speed. He threw a devastating, chakra infused haymaker at my head. I blocked it with my forearm. The ice beneath us cratered from the impact, but I didn't budge.

Doto screamed as he tried to use the suit's absorption mechanics to eat my chakra and leave me defenseless.

But, it was all in vain.

It didn't matter how much he tried to absorb, I simply stuck with Taijutsu and picked him apart, bit by bit.

It was a brutal one-sided beatdown.

I drove a knee into his stomach, the reinforced black armor groaning and splintering under the immense pressure. I followed up with a blistering sequence of high-speed strikes, treating his A-Rank armor like a heavy punching bag. Every punch sent a shockwave echoing off the monoliths. With a final, spinning heel kick to his head, I sent the false king crashing into the base of the generator control panel.

Koyuki had arrived at the edge of the glacier, accompanied by the film crew pushing the camera dolly. They looked down into the crater, completely stunned by the sheer scale of the destruction.

"Hey! You getting any of this?!" I heard the director say to his camera operator.

Doto was bleeding heavily from his nose, his armor was shattering and failing him, the Hex Crystal flickering dimly in his chest plate. In a desperate, suicidal bid, he tried to overload his armor's core entirely, the suit glowing with a volatile, explosive light.

I stepped calmly into his guard.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: Critical Strike]

I drove my fist dead-center into his abdomen. The impact sounded like a bomb detonating in a vacuum. The Black Chakra Armor malfunctioned, the core violently shattering and popping the Hex Crystal out of the port.

Doto hacked up a mouthful of blood and collapsed to his knees. He was utterly stunned, his armor completely broken, and he was clinging on for dear life.

I stepped back, catching the Hex Crystal as it fell, and pulled a standard kunai from my pouch. I looked up at the ridge.

"Koyuki!" I called out. "Get down here."

She descended the icy path, her breathing staggering as she approached the ruined, bleeding man who had haunted her nightmares for years.

I flipped the kunai around and extended the handle toward her.

She stared at the blade, terrified of the implications of what I was telling her to do. Taking a life went against everything she was. She hesitantly reached out and gripped the kunai, but her hands were trembling so violently she could barely hold it.

I reached out and placed my hand firmly over hers, steadying her trembling grip.

"He's just a man," I whispered gently. "Now free yourself of your suffering."

She took a deep, shaking breath, her eyes hardening as the [Aura of the Sovereign] washed over her. Together, we drove the blade cleanly into Doto's throat.

We watched as he gurgled and choked on his own blood. The light began to leave his eyes as he slumped backward into the snow, dead.

[CRITICAL HIT!]

[BOSS DEFEATED]

[LEVEL UP!]

[LEVEL UP!]

[LEVEL UP!]

[NEW LEVEL: 167]

[FULL RECOVERY ACTIVATED]

Koyuki let go of the blade and collapsed to her knees. She sobbed uncontrollably, her wails echoing throughout the area. It wasn't from sadness; it was the overwhelming, exhausted relief of a ten-year nightmare finally coming to an end.

My vision was immediately flooded with golden text.

Holy moley, so it really does pay to be kind, I thought, my eyes widening at the Ryo amount. System, why am I getting 100 million? It's not like I'm complaining or anything, I just wanna know how I got this much.

Ah, I see. Everything was being tallied, I mused. Alright then, what's this A-Rank scroll looking like? What have I been striving for all this time?

I mentally cracked open the glowing scroll.

[NEW SKILL OBTAINED: Rasengan (A-Rank)]: The pinnacle of chakra shape transformation. Deals catastrophic grinding and blunt-force damage.

[LEARN NOW?]:Y/N

Holy shit! I thought, not believing my eyes. The Rasengan of all things! No way! Give it to me!

I mentally hit Yes. I couldn't help but grin, feeling the complex chakra rotation mechanics beam directly into my brain, instantly mastering the form.

"It's over," a quiet voice said.

Kakashi landed softly on the ice behind us, followed closely by the rest of Team 7. He had arrived just in time to watch me guide a civilian's hand in a cold-blooded execution. His Sharingan was exposed, staring intensely at Doto's bleeding corpse, the complex look in his eye speaking volumes about what he thought of my methods.

Sasuke stood nearby, his fists clenched tightly at his sides. He stared intensely at Doto's battered body, realizing just how massively the gap between us had widened. He was burning with frustration; I hadn't even used a single jutsu to dismantle an A-Rank threat.

Sakura just covered her mouth, looking completely horrified by the brutality of the scene.

Koyuki got back to her feet, wiping her eyes. As she regained her composure, I handed her the Hex Crystal and motioned for her to use it on the generator.

She walked up to the machine, placing the crystal into the glowing hexagonal keyhole.

The machine hummed to life. Massive pipes began to glow, projecting intense waves of heat across the glacier and out into the valley. The ice and snow around the monoliths rapidly began to melt, turning to steam. Beneath the frost, vibrant green grass, flowing streams, and beautiful blooming flowers emerged.

Her father's true treasure. Springtime in the Land of Snow.

"Cut!" the Director screamed from the upper ridge, weeping tears of absolute joy. "Print it! This is going to be a mega-hit!"

Koyuki stood in the center of the blooming flowers. The heavy, tragic burden she had carried for a decade was completely gone. For the first time since we met her, she offered a genuine, radiant smile.

I looked at the blooming valley, then back down at my newly updated stat screen, eager to test my brand-new Rasengan on whoever dared to cross my path next.
