After a much-needed nap to reset my mental fatigue, I sat up and stretched. I glanced out the window of my apartment. The soft, golden light of early dawn was just beginning to spill over the Hokage Monument, and a flock of birds flew peacefully across the morning sky.
"Welp, back to the grind," I muttered.
I locked onto the signature of a Soldier I had sent out to patrol the outskirts of the village.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shadow Exchange]
My surroundings warped, and I appeared in an isolated, rocky space high up in the mountains surrounding Konoha.
I pulled the second A-Rank Key from my inventory and activated it. The space above me warped, and a massive, crimson 'A' branded stone door crashed down softly onto the rocky terrain. The doors opened and I stepped into the entryway.
[DUNGEON ENTERED: The Labyrinth of the White Orochi]
I found myself standing in a massive, subterranean cavern. The walls, floor, and ceiling were entirely composed of jagged, pale-white crystals that reflected the faint ambient light, creating a disorienting, endless hall of mirrors.
Trippy, I thought, taking a step forward.
The cavern was so flawlessly crystalline that even the soft sound of my own breathing seemed to amplify, bouncing off the walls and multiplying in the eerie silence.
It's an acoustic nightmare in here, I noted, looking at the jagged walls. My footsteps might be silent because of my shin-guards, but the second I use a jutsu or clash weapons, the sound is going to echo and bounce off these walls dozens of times. If this boss relies on hearing, that's going to be a massive problem.
"System," I called out mentally. "What exactly am I about to go up against? What is this 'White Orochi'? I don't even know what the hell an Orochi is."
[NOTICE: THE TARGET IS A HIGH-TIER WHITE BASILISK POSSESSING A RARE, MUTABLE DISPOSITION. BE ADVISED: THE CREATURE HARBORS A DORMANT, MULTI-FACETED LINEAGE BENEATH ITS CURRENT CARAPACE. TREAD CAREFULLY.]
"A Basilisk?! What the fuck?!" I questioned. "The thing that Harry Potter—The Boy Who Lived—faced off against in Book 2?!"
A/N: That Was A Disgusting Amount Of Glaze I'm Not Gonna Lie. But Y'all Needed To Know.
I nodded with a hand on my chin, attempting to look serious. "I see… so, I'm cooked then. Doesn't that thing have like a petrifying gaze or something? And what the fuck is a mutable disposition and a dormant lineage?! I think you're just making up shit now. You already said it's multi-faceted, so does that mean it's hiding like another form? If so, then I'm really cooked. And since I'm cooked, how bout you be a pal and slide over some recommended items so I don't, ya know, die."
A golden prompt materialized instantly.
[RECOMMENDED ITEM: Polarized Gorgon Lenses]:
Effect: Specialized combat eyewear. Completely nullifies ocular-based petrification and visual genjutsu.
Durability Limit: Absorbs a maximum of two (2) petrifying or visual genjutsu attacks before requiring a 6-hour cooldown phase to recharge.
Cost: 1,500,000 Ryo
"System you had these fucking glasses the whole time and didn't say a word?" I questioned looking through the details of the eyewear. "I should be mad, but they look clean as hell, so I'll forgive you."
They look like one of those vintage steampunk sunglasses, I mused. I gotta wear these forever now. I'll beat everyone through the power of drip alone.
[BUY NOW?]: Y/N
"Man, give 'em to me," I said, extending both hands.
[-1,500,000 Ryo]
[RYO BALANCE: 31,895,000 Ryo → 30,395,000 Ryo]
It doesn't matter how many heads that Basilisk gots, I mused, donning the glasses. I'm gonna skin it alive.
I adjusted my new lenses, making sure they were securely fastened to my face, and ventured deeper into the labyrinth.
It didn't take long to find the main chamber.
Resting in the center of a massive, hollowed-out crystal dome was the White Basilisk. It was huge—not quite the size of a mountain, but easily as large as a five-story building. Its body was covered in thick, interlocking pale-white scales, and thick, corrosive venom dripped from its massive fangs, sizzling as it hit the crystal floor.
I immediately noticed its eyes. They were completely clouded over with a milky white film.
Blind as a bat, I analyzed, gripping my daggers. With my scent completely masked by the [Silk Combat Attire] and my footsteps silenced, it should have no idea that I'm even here. So, it can only track the sound of any jutsu that I cast.
I leaned forward, looking for any weaknesses. But, I'd need to get through those scales first, I continued. Which means that I have to get up close and peel its layers back.
I sighed internally. This definitely won't end well, I mused, tossing a single shuriken forward with enough force to cut through steel like paper.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu (Maximum Output)]
The single blade instantly multiplied into a storm of hundreds of chakra-coated shuriken, screeching through the air directly toward the beast's head. The metallic ringing echoed violently across the cavern walls, multiplying the sound until it sounded like an entire army was attacking.
The Basilisk's head snapped toward the noise with terrifying speed. Its milky eyes suddenly flared with a sickly, glowing yellow light.
What the fuck?! I thought as a wave of petrifying energy washed over the cavern.
In a single instant, the metallic screeching stopped. Every single shuriken was turned into solid stone mid-air, dropping to the crystal floor and shattering into dust.
The yellow light washed over me as well, but the lenses of my glasses flared with a dark purple energy, completely nullifying the petrification.
[ITEM EFFECT ACTIVATED: Petrification Nullified.]
[Gorgon Lenses Durability: 1/2 Charges Remaining.]
Holy shit, that petrification is ridiculous, I thought, my eyes widening.
The beast roared, the sound vibrating painfully in my chest as it lunged toward the source of the jutsu.
"COME FORTH!" I shouted.
My shadow expanded rapidly across the crystal floor. Hundreds of my deployable Soldiers erupted from the darkness, charging the beast head-on.
The cavern devolved into absolute chaos.
The Basilisk was incredibly fast, much faster than Kasaka had been, and terrifyingly intelligent. As some of my heavy hitters—the Tiger and the Polar Bear—lunged for its neck, the Basilisk spun, whipping its massive tail in a devastating 360-degree arc.
The sheer force shattered some of the crystal pillars around us. The Tiger and Bear were swatted away like flies, and a chunk of flying crystal shrapnel clipped my shoulder before I could fully dodge.
[-5% HP]
The beast reared back and unleashed a massive torrent of toxic, purple poison breath.
Nah, can't let my chakra deplete too much by constantly regenerating them, I thought, bringing my hands together.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall (Maximum Output)]
I slammed my hands onto the floor, and a massive barricade of stone erupted upward, shielding my army from the corrosive wave.
I leaped off the top of the wall.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Wind Style: Wind Scythe Jutsu (Maximum Output)]
I unleashed a barrage of razor-sharp wind blades. Before the wind even hit, I amplified the attack by inhaling deeply.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Fire Style: Dragon Flame Bombs (Maximum Output)]
The fire caught the wind scythes, creating a massive, swirling firestorm that slammed directly into the Basilisk's flank. The beast shrieked in pain, the sound bouncing off the walls, but as the smoke cleared, its white scales were only heavily scorched, not broken.
Its defense is absurd, I noted, landing back on the ground.
Suddenly, the Basilisk hissed, spitting a massive glob of thick, green slime across the battlefield. It hit Rango—my Lizardman Commander—directly, anchoring him to the floor. The slime began to violently hiss, burning through his shadowy armor.
As I extended a hand to recall him back into my shadow, a stray splash of the acidic slime grazed my leg, burning intensely through my pants.
[-15% HP]
Ahh, that shit hurts, I thought, gritting my teeth.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Ice Release: Glacial Wave]
A wave of freezing air shot out around me. The intense cold instantly froze the acid solid, allowing Rango to shatter it and break free just as the Basilisk lunged to bite him.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Wind Style: Vacuum Wave (Maximum Output)]
I exhaled a compressed blade of wind, slicing through the remaining slime puddles on the floor to clear our footing.
At this rate, I'll run outta chakra before I pierce its outer shell, I thought. I need something that'll deal just enough significant damage to create a weak point.
As I thought of what to potentially do, my mind thought back to my fight with Beru and the technique he used to almost cave in the enclosure we were in.
"Beru!" I called out mentally, and quickly relayed a plan I wanted him to execute.
The former Ant King shrieked, diving directly at the Basilisk, while I vanished from sight with [Stealth]. Beru accumulated a surplus of energy as he rocketed towards the giant serpent. Once he got within a half-mile radius, he unleashed his omnidirectional shockwave attack, cracking the scales on top of the beast's head inwards, leaving a trail of weak points to exploit.
That attack took a lot of chakra from me but it's worth it, I mused reappearing in the Basilisk's blind spot and throwing one of my daggers directly over the beast's head.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shadow Thunder God]
I instantly teleported to the blade, appearing in mid-air directly above the Basilisk's skull. I channeled a large amount of my remaining chakra into my right hand, forming a violently spinning sphere of yellow energy.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Rasengan (Maximum Output)]
I slammed the sphere point-blank into the open wound. The rotational force tore through the beast's skull, blowing its brain out in a massive spray of gore. The Basilisk stiffened, let out one final, gurgling hiss, and collapsed onto the crystal floor, dead.
I landed heavily on my feet, breathing heavily as I stared at the serpent and awaited its next action.
Come on, you slimy bastard, I frowned, pulling out a rare-grade chakra potion from my [Inventory]. Lets see what this other side of yours is lookin' like.
For a moment, nothing happened, but then a wet, sickening tearing sound echoed through the cavern.
The massive white snake was convulsing. The flesh down the center of its back was violently splitting open, ripping apart like a discarded cocoon.
[WARNING: MUTABLE DISPOSITION TRIGGERED.]
[THE DORMANT LINEAGE AWAKENS.]
[PHASE TWO: THE TRUE WHITE OROCHI.]
From the bloody, ruptured spine of the dead Basilisk, eight sleek, heavily armored serpentine heads violently burst forth. They were smaller than the Basilisk, but significantly faster and radiating a far more sinister chakra.
Sixteen glowing, slit-pupil eyes snapped open, locking directly onto me.
Welp, it's definitely not blind anymore, I mused, chugging the last drop of my chakra potion. Let's see what y'all got.
The cavern erupted into motion.
The eight heads coordinated their attacks in a fluid, terrifying grace, weaving around each other to strike from eight different angles at once.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Sprint]
I blurred out of the way just as three massive jaws slammed into the crystal floor where I had been standing a millisecond prior. The impact sent a shockwave of jagged crystal shrapnel flying in every direction.
They're faster than their previous form, I noted, deflecting a rogue piece of crystal with my dagger. And since they have perfect 360-degree vision now. Using [Stealth] haphazardly might not be the way to go.
"Keep them busy!" I mentally commanded my Shadows.
Beru shrieked, rocketing forward to intercept two of the heads, his claws sparking against their armored scales. Rango and the Giant Red Tiger leaped onto a third, desperately stabbing and scratching to hold down their attention. The Armored Polar Bear and a part of my infantry of Ice Warriors weren't so lucky—one of the heads snapped out, and delivered some kind of energy beam that completely dissolved their shadowy remains.
[NOTICE: -2,530 CP]:
[CURRENT CP: 4,370/11,100]
Tch, that's ridiculous, I thought, moving a safe distance away. How the hell am I supposed to counter that?! It's almost laughable how insane that is.
As I observed its body for potential weak points, I noticed that the rest of the heads suddenly started moving slower while the head that fired the beam started to glow with some kind of ambient energy. I also noticed that the other seven heads were shielding it as it glowed.
It's recouping their energy, I realized, locking onto the head. It must be in a weakened state, which is why the other heads are moving cautiously. What an opportunity!
I pulled my arm back, then whipped it forward utilizing my [Dagger Throw]. I sent my blade soaring through the air at an incredible speed. Instead of sending it towards the head that was building up energy, I sent the blade towards one of the heads protecting it. It just managed to embed itself deeply into the neck of a serpent on the outer flank.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shadow Thunder God]
I instantly reappeared in mid-air right beside the embedded dagger. I grabbed the hilt, ripped it out, and channeled all my physical strength into both blades.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Critical Strike (Maximum Output)]
With a brutal, downward-slashing motion, I created a large gash in its neck. Black blood sprayed across the pale crystals.
Ha! How're you gonna counter that? I smirked. Now for the rest of—
But before I could get another word out, the rest of the heads quickly focused on me and tried to bat me away. I teleported out of the way, only to witness the remaining heads glowing with another ambient energy. However, this time, it seemed that the other heads were transferring their healing properties onto their injured counterpart, quickly knitting together the deep wound.
You've got to be shitting me! I groaned, watching in disbelief.
Suddenly, the heads retreated back, slithering rapidly into the jagged, mirror-like crystal formations of the cavern. Because of the endless reflections, it suddenly looked like there were fifty serpent heads surrounding me.
Without warning, a sickly yellow light shot out, reflecting off the walls in a deadly, inescapable laser grid from multiple directions within the crystal maze.
Oh shit! It's bouncing its petrification beam off the mirrors! I realized, my eyes darting around as the cavern lit up like a disco ball of death.
I activated [Sprint] and blurred out of the way of the first two beams, but the grid was simply too tight. The third beam caught me dead center in the chest.
The dark purple energy of my glasses flared violently, absorbing the attack. A loud, sickening CRACK echoed right by my ear as the lenses fractured.
[ITEM EFFECT ACTIVATED: Petrification Nullified.]
[Gorgon Lenses Durability: 0/2 Charges Remaining. Lens Self-Repair Initiated.]
[WARNING: ITEM ENTERING 6-HOUR COOLDOWN.]
Damn! That's not good! I thought, landing heavily on a crystal outcropping. If it hits me with that thing again, I'll become a permanent lawn ornament. These mirrors gotta go!
I gathered a massive amount of chakra into my lungs.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Wind Style: Wind Scythe Jutsu (Maximum Output)]
I unleashed the devastating tempest of razor-sharp wind directly into the cavern walls around me. The compressed wind blades violently shattered the pale crystals, raining thousands of jagged shards down onto the crystal floor and completely destroying every reflective surface in the room.
The cavern was reduced to a dull, broken crater. Without the mirrors to hide behind, the eight heads were fully exposed, hissing in irritation.
If they can heal each other, then I can't slowly find their weaknesses; they'll end up outlasting me, I analyzed, gripping my daggers tightly. So, I'll just have to overwhelm them all at once so they can't focus on transferring energies.
"Everyone! Isolate them! Don't let them link up!" I commanded mentally.
My Soldiers surged forward. They tackled the heads, dragging them apart and forcing the Orochi to fight on eight separate, uncoordinated fronts. The beast thrashed wildly, trying to regroup to use its healing and energy beams, but my army was relentless.
However, the Orochi showed exactly why it was considered a high-tier boss. As I teleported in with [Shadow Thunder God] to sever the first head, a second head anticipated my trajectory and attempted to bat me away.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shisui Uchiha's Body Flicker]
VUUUSH.
I shifted into a slight air dash as my afterimage took the brunt of the damage from the beast's attack. However, the serpent was well prepared, as another one of its heads slammed its armored snout directly into my ribs like a freight train.
[-18% HP]
I coughed up a splatter of blood, rocketing backward and crashing hard into the shattered crystal floor. My chest throbbed with what felt like three broken ribs, and a stray splash of acidic venom from a third head grazed my shoulder, searing my skin.
[-8% HP]
Guess I can't just speed-blitz this thing anymore, I grunted, forcing myself back onto my feet. I need a bigger distraction to get to the main body.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu]
Two dozen clones popped into existence, flooding the crater. "Scatter and bait them!" I ordered.
The clones rushed the heads, creating a chaotic frenzy. The serpents snapped and blasted at the fakes, popping them into clouds of smoke left and right, but it gave my Shadows the perfect opening to pin the remaining heads down completely.
With the heads distracted and suppressed, the massive, convulsing central body where the necks converged was left wide open.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Sprint]
I dashed across the battlefield, sliding directly underneath the beast's exposed underbelly. I gripped my daggers, focusing my strength as my chakra coated the blades.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Critical Strike (Maximum Output)]
With a brutal, upward cross-slash, I carved a massive 'X' right through its pale, unarmored underside. The thick skin gave way, exposing the beast's massive, violently beating heart.
I instantly formed a dense, violently spinning sphere of yellow chakra in my right hand.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Rasengan (Maximum Output)]
"IT'S OVER!" I roared, slamming the Rasengan point-blank into its exposed heart.
The rotational force completely obliterated the organ, tearing upward into the beast's chest cavity in a massive explosion of gore.
[CRITICAL HIT!]
The body of the White Orochi convulsed once again, letting out a final, deafening screech that shook the cavern. It laid completely still for a fraction of a second before rapidly dissolving into thick black smoke.
[BOSS DEFEATED!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[LEVEL UP!]
[FULL RECOVERY ACTIVATED]
[NEW LEVEL: 216]
Golden light washed over me, instantly flushing the fatigue from my muscles, repairing the damage I had accumulated, and completely refilling my depleted CP.
Thank goodness! I exhaled. That shit felt like fighting two Bosses. And I went up six levels too, not bad.
"Good work, everyone!" I praised, dismissing my Shadows back into the darkness so they could regenerate in peace.
That healing factor was ridiculous, I thought, my mind shifting to the upcoming finals. Does that freak Orochimaru have the same thing? I know he's highly durable, but I don't know to what degree.
[DUNGEON CLEAR BONUS: +1,000,000 Ryo]
[BOSS RYO BONUS: (46% HP x 50 Ryo) x 5.5 Rank Bonus = 12,650 Ryo]
[TOTAL RYO: (12,650 + 1,000,000) + 31,895,000 = 32,907,650 Ryo]
[QUEST ITEM GAINED: Venom of the White Orochi]
[REWARDS GRANTED]:
Material: Ivory Basilisk Fang (x8) - Can be forged into high-tier piercing weapons.
Material: Pale Basilisk Scales - Can be tailored into armor (+50% Poison/Petrification Resistance).
[TITLE ACQUIRED: Serpent Slayer]:
Effect: Grants +30% resistances against all serpentine and reptilian enemies.
Thirty percent?! Thank Goodness! I grinned darkly, reading over the prompt. That means I could brush off some of their toxins and petrifications, right? And it's gonna come in handy against Orochimaru and that giant snake of his later.
[DUNGEON CLEARED. LEAVE NOW?]: Y/N
"Yea, get me out of here," I confirmed.
The spatial distortion landed me right back in the mountainous area of Konoha. The sun was now fully up, casting bright morning light across the trees.
[TIME ELAPSED: 4 DAYS, 3 HOURS]
My eyes widened at the notification. "Four days?! Holy Shit!" I let out. "I need a reset."
I didn't waste another second in the mountains. I immediately locked onto the Shadow Soldier guarding my apartment and swapped places.
[SKILL ACTIVATED: Shadow Exchange]
I stumbled into the familiar, dimly lit interior of my apartment, the sheer mental exhaustion of the four-day time dilation finally catching up to me. I hit the shower, scrubbing the dried blood, sweat, and corrosive dungeon grime off my skin. I devoured a meal of meat and vegetables before ultimately crashing onto my bed for a few hours.
When I woke up, the sun was setting, casting a deep orange glow across my room. My mind felt sharp again.
Alright. Time to put these rewards to use, I thought, sitting up and opening the System's crafting interface.
First on the list was the main objective. I selected the [Venom of the White Orochi] and the [Crystallized Sage Resin]. The items materialized out of my inventory, floating into the air. They liquefied and swirled together, glowing with a violently bright light before rapidly condensing. A small, intricately designed glass vial dropped into my palm. It hummed with pure, purifying chakra, radiating a heavy, pulsing purple aura that seemed to push away the shadows in the room.
[ITEM CRAFTED: Soul Purge Elixir]:
Effect: Cleanses the host of the parasitic chakra fragment of the Curse Mark of Heaven while retaining the seal's passive natural energy absorption.
Finally, I thought, my eyes tracing the glowing purple liquid. This task's 99% complete.
My first instinct was to use [Shadow Exchange] to teleport straight to the Soldier I had planted on Anko, force her to drink it, and immediately reap my well-earned rewards. However, that plan changed when I tapped into the sensory link of my planted Soldier. I saw Anko in her apartment, hunched over her bathroom sink. She was gritting her teeth in immense pain, her hand tightly clutching the back of her neck where the three tomoe marks were burning hotly. The Curse Mark was flaring up wildly.
It must be reacting to Orochimaru's proximity, I realized, narrowing my eyes. If I recall correctly from the main timeline, when he encountered her in the forest, he activated the Mark to cause her great pain. And he subsequently used that as a way to send a warning to Hiruzen not to cancel the Exams.
The reality of the situation started to wash over me. If I give this to her right now, the Curse Mark will be instantly purged and Orochimaru will definitely sense that his chakra fragment has been destroyed, I mused. If he gets suspicious and investigates why his favorite test subject suddenly lost her mark, he might alter his invasion plans. And that's something I can't let happen.
I let out a slow breath and placed the glowing purple vial safely into my [Inventory].
Sorry, Anko, I thought sympathetically, cutting the visual link. You're gonna have to tough it out for a few more weeks. I'll give it to you the second the Exams finish.
With the Elixir safely stored away, I shifted my focus to the massive stockpile of materials I had just acquired and began crafting some items, starting with the [Pale Basilisk Scales]:
[CRAFTING INITIATED...]
[ITEM ACQUIRED: White Orochi Mesh Under-Armor]:
Rank: A
Effect: A sleek, lightweight mesh woven from Basilisk scales. Grants +50% Poison and Petrification Resistance. Highly durable against slashing attacks.
I immediately equipped it under my usual combat attire. It felt completely weightless, acting as a perfect secondary layer of defense.
Next, I selected the [Ivory Basilisk Fangs] and the [Corrupted Ironwood].
Let's make some backup weapons. My daggers are great, but I need a little more variety, I mused.
[CRAFTING INITIATED...]
[ITEM ACQUIRED: Ivory Shortsword of the Viper]:
Rank: A
Description: A shortsword forged from the Basilisk fang and reinforced with Corrupted Ironwood hilt.
Passive Effect: Minor poison application on successful critical strikes.
Ah, that's dope, I thought, spinning the hilt between my fingers. I gave it a few test swings, and noticed that it was perfectly balanced and hummed faintly with the lingering essence of the serpent. It has a longer reach than my daggers, and has a poison effect. Simply amazing.
I stored the sword in my inventory and looked at the calendar hanging on my wall.
Four days went by inside that Gate, I analyzed, calculating my remaining time before the Chunin Exam finals. I still need to hit the Uzumaki ruins and that Red Knight Castle. I'm going to have to pick up the pace if I want to clear them both in time.
I stretched my hands above my head. There's so much to do, and it feels like there's so little time, I mused. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
