Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: Power Couple

The morning after.

Jay woke to warmth—solid, steady, impossibly comfortable. Keifer's arm was wrapped around her waist, his chest pressed against her back, his breath warm against her hair.

For a moment, she just lay there, savoring it.

This is my life now. This is real.

Then—

Percy's voice from outside the door: "I'M NOT SAYING ANYTHING. I'M JUST HUMming very loudly outside this specific door."

His humming was aggressively cheerful and unmistakably meant to be annoying.

Keifer groaned against her hair. "I'm going to kill him."

Jay laughed softly. "Get in line."

"We can't both kill him. Then who would document our love story?"

"He would. From beyond the grave. With a dramatic voiceover."

Keifer snorted.

They lay there for another precious minute—stolen time before the chaos of the day.

Then Jay sighed. "We have to get up."

"I know."

"The investor meeting is in three hours."

"I know."

"Serina's probably already dressed and perfect."

"I know."

"And your mother is waiting."

Keifer kissed her shoulder. "Five more minutes."

"Keifer."

"Four."

"Keifer."

"Three."

Jay laughed, turning in his arms to face him. "You're impossible."

He smiled—soft, sleepy, just for her. "And yet you love me."

"Unfortunately."

"Liar."

She kissed him—quick, warm. "Come on. Future husband. We have an empire to run."

Keifer's smile widened. "I like the sound of that."

"Future husband?"

"Yeah."

Jay's heart fluttered. "Get used to it. You're going to hear it a lot."

They emerged from the room together—and immediately walked into an ambush.

Percy was right there, phone out, recording.

Percy: "AND HERE THEY ARE! THE NEWLY CONFirmed couple! Fresh from a night of—"

Tita Gema smacked the back of his head with a wooden spoon. "RESPECT. PRIVACY. WORDS YOU DON'T KNOW."

Percy: "I know them! I just choose to ignore them!"

Jasfer appeared behind them, grinning. "Good morning, you two! Sleep well?"

Jay's face reddened. "Dad."

Jasfer: "What? It's a normal question!"

Serina glided past, elegant as always, and kissed both their cheeks. "Ignore them. You look happy. That's all that matters."

Jay: "Mom…"

Serina smiled knowingly. "I've waited years for this. Let me enjoy it."

Keigan and Keiren came running down the hall.

Keigan: "KUYA! ATE JAY! You guys were in the same room!"

Keiren: "DOES THAT MEAN YOU'RE REALLY REALLY TOGETHER NOW?"

Keifer scooped Keiren up. "Yeah. We're really really together."

Keiren: "FINALLY! We've been waiting FOREVER!"

Keigan: "Literally years. We made a bet."

Keifer: "You WHAT?"

Keigan: "I won 500 pesos from Keiren."

Keiren: "WORTH IT."

Jay laughed, pulling Keigan into a hug. "You're all insane."

Keigan: "We learned from the best."

Grazel Jay toddled over, bunny in hand. "Tita Jay! Kuya Keifer! You came out together!"

Jay scooped her up. "We did, baby."

Grazel Jay nodded seriously. "Does that mean you're married now?"

Jay choked.

Keifer: "Not yet, little one."

Grazel Jay: "But SOON?"

Keifer glanced at Jay—soft, hopeful. "Soon."

Jay's heart stopped.

Grazel Jay: "GOOD. I wanna be flower girl."

Grace appeared behind her. "Baby, let them breathe."

Grazel Jay: "I'm HELPING."

Denzel: "She's not wrong."

Breakfast was chaos, as usual.

But there was something different in the air today—a lightness, a joy that hadn't been there before.

Jay sat beside Keifer, their hands intertwined under the table. No hiding. No pretending.

Percy documented everything. Tita Gema fed everyone. Jasfer made terrible jokes. Serina watched it all with quiet contentment.

And then—

Angelo appeared in the doorway, phone in hand.

"The investor meeting is confirmed for 10 AM. But there's something else."

Jay straightened. "What?"

"Yuri Hanamitchi just arrived at the venue."

The table went silent.

Keifer's jaw tightened. "What's he doing there?"

"He's an investor in one of the partner companies. He has a right to be there." Angelo paused. "But he also requested a private word with Jay after the presentation."

Jay's grip on Keifer's hand tightened.

Serina spoke calmly. "Then we face him. Together."

Jasfer nodded. "Yuri's not the threat. Keizer is. Don't let him distract you."

Jay took a breath. "Right."

Keifer looked at her. "I'll be there. The whole time."

Jay met his eyes—steady, sure.

"Good."

Two hours later, Jay stood in front of the mirror in a sleek black power suit—tailored perfectly, jewelry minimal, hair swept back in an elegant style.

She looked like a CEO.

She looked like someone who owned every room she walked into.

Keifer appeared behind her, dressed in a dark suit that made him look devastatingly handsome.

"Ready?"

Jay met his eyes in the mirror. "With you? Always."

He smiled—that soft, private smile just for her—and kissed her shoulder.

"Let's go show them what J&S can do."

The venue was impressive—a modern glass building downtown, filled with investors, journalists, and business elites.

Jay walked in like she owned it.

Because she did.

Serina walked beside her, equally elegant in a deep burgundy dress. Keifer followed just behind—not hiding, not separate. Present. Supportive. Hers.

The moment they entered the main hall, cameras flashed.

Reporters surged forward.

"Ms. Mariano! Over here!"

"Mrs. Watson! How does it feel to finally go public?"

"Is it true J&S is planning to expand internationally?"

Jay raised a hand calmly. "All questions will be answered during the presentation. Thank you for your patience."

The reporters settled—slightly.

But one voice cut through.

"Ms. Mariano! Who's the man beside you? Is he related to the company?"

Jay paused.

Then she smiled—slow, deliberate, radiant.

"This is Keifer. He's my partner. In every sense of the word."

The cameras went WILD.

Keifer, to his credit, didn't flinch. He just stood there, steady, proud, hers.

Another reporter: "Partner as in business partner or—"

Jay's smile widened. "Partner as in partner. He's my future husband."

The room erupted.

Inside the Fernandez house, the TV was blaring.

Percy had gathered everyone in the living room to watch the live coverage.

On screen, Jay stood calm and powerful, Keifer beside her, Serina elegant at her other side.

Percy: "SHE JUST ANNOUNCED IT. ON NATIONAL TV. AGAIN."

Tita Gema: "THAT'S MY GIRL!"

Jasfer: "THAT'S MY DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW!"

Serina: (on screen) "I've wanted them together since they were children. This is destiny."

Jasfer: (in the living room) "SAME! GREAT MINDS!"

Jay's grandma: "THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL. SOMEONE FRAME THIS."

Keigan: "Kuya looks so HAPPY!"

Keiren: "He's SMILING! Like a REAL smile!"

Grazel Jay pointed at the screen. "TITA JAY! KUYA KEIFER! ON TV!"

Grace: "They're famous, baby."

Grazel Jay: "I KNEW THEM FIRST."

Denzel: "She's not wrong."

Rakki called immediately: "ARE YOU SEEING THIS?!"

Mica was already on the line: "JAY IS A QUEEN! KEIFER IS A KING! JAYFER IS ENDGAME!"

Ci-n's voice in the background: "SISTER JAY IS ON TV! I'M SO PROUD! I'M CRYING! THIS ISN'T EVEN MY RELATIONSHIP!"

Back at the venue, the presentation began.

Jay stood at the podium, Serina beside her, Keifer in the front row watching with an expression of pure pride.

She was magnificent.

Numbers flowed from her like poetry. Projections. Partnerships. Vision. Every word measured, confident, undeniable.

By the time she finished, the room was silent for a full three seconds.

Then—

Thunderous applause.

Investors were already approaching, business cards extended, deals waiting to be made.

Jay handled it all with grace—shaking hands, exchanging numbers, making connections.

And through it all, Keifer watched.

Proud.

In love.

Hers.

Then—

Yuri appeared.

He emerged from the crowd like a storm waiting to break—tailored suit, perfect hair, expression carefully neutral.

But his eyes…

His eyes were burning.

"Jay."

His voice cut through the noise.

The crowd around them seemed to sense the tension, parting slightly.

Jay turned, face calm. "Yuri."

Yuri stepped closer. "I need to speak with you. Privately."

Keifer moved immediately, positioning himself slightly beside Jay—protective, steady.

Yuri's eyes flicked to him. "This doesn't concern you."

Keifer's voice was flat. "Everything concerning her concerns me."

Yuri's jaw tightened. "Keifer."

"Yuri."

The air crackled.

Serina appeared beside them, calm and elegant. "Gentlemen. Perhaps we can find a more private space for this conversation. Away from the cameras."

Yuri's eyes swept the room—journalists watching, cameras rolling.

He nodded stiffly. "Fine."

They found a small conference room—private, quiet, away from prying eyes.

Jay stood in the center, Keifer beside her, Serina near the door like a graceful guardian.

Yuri faced them, chest rising and falling with barely controlled emotion.

"I saw the interview," he said finally. "The first one. Where you announced him to the world."

Jay didn't flinch. "Yes."

"I saw today too. 'Future husband.'" His voice cracked slightly. "You were engaged to me, Jay."

Jay's voice was calm—not cold, but certain. "I never wanted that engagement, Yuri. You know that."

Yuri's face twisted. "You could have learned to want it. Given time. Given—"

"No."

The word was gentle but absolute.

Jay stepped forward slightly—not away from Keifer, but with him.

"I loved Keifer long before I met you. I'll love him long after. There was never anyone else, Yuri. There never could be."

Yuri's eyes glistened.

He looked at Keifer—really looked at him.

"You're lucky," he said quietly. "You know that?"

Keifer's voice was soft. "I know."

"Don't waste it."

"I won't."

Yuri stood there for a long moment—fighting, losing, accepting.

Then he nodded once, sharply.

"If you hurt her—"

Keifer cut him off. "I won't."

Yuri searched his eyes.

Finally, he found whatever he was looking for.

"Fine." He turned to Jay. "I won't bother you again. But Jay?"

Jay waited.

"If he ever does hurt you—if he ever makes you unhappy—I'll be there. Waiting."

Jay smiled—sad, gentle. "I know. But he won't."

Yuri nodded.

And walked out.

The door clicked shut.

Silence.

Jay exhaled slowly. "Well. That was…"

"Intense?" Keifer offered.

"Understatement."

Serina crossed to them, pulling Jay into a warm hug. "You handled that beautifully, anak."

Jay leaned into her. "Thanks, Mom."

Serina kissed her forehead. "Always."

Keifer watched them—his mother and his future wife, wrapped in each other.

This is my life now.

This is everything.

Serina pulled back, eyes glistening. "I'm so proud of both of you. Today, tomorrow, always."

Jay smiled. "Jayfer forever?"

Serina laughed softly. "Jayfer forever."

Keifer pulled them both into a hug—his mother, his love, his family.

Outside, the world waited—investors, challenges, Keizer lurking in the shadows.

But in this moment, in this room—

They had everything they needed.

Back at the Fernandez house, the TV was still on.

Percy had recorded the entire confrontation (from a distance, via a friend at the venue) and was now replaying it in slow motion.

Percy: "LOOK AT KEIFER'S FACE when Yuri showed up. PROTECTIVE KING BEHAVIOR."

Jasfer: "LOOK AT JAY'S FACE when she said 'there was never anyone else.' ICONIC."

Tita Gema: "LOOK AT SERINA being the elegant queen she is. PERFECTION."

Jay's grandma: "LOOK AT ALL OF THEM. BEAUTIFUL. DRAMATIC. WORTHY OF MY LEGACY."

Keigan: "Lola, what legacy?"

Jay's grandma: "THE LEGACY OF BEING FABULOUS."

Grazel Jay clapped. "FABULOUS!"

Denzel: "She's learning."

Grace: "I'm scared."

When Jay, Keifer, and Serina finally walked through the door, they were met with thunderous applause.

Percy: "THE HEROES RETURN!"

Jasfer: "MY DAUGHTER! MY SON! MY—" He looked at Serina. "—best friend!"

Serina laughed. "That's all I've ever been, Jasfer."

Jasfer: "And you're EXCELLENT at it."

Tita Gema: "EAT! EVERYONE EAT! CELEBRATION FEAST!"

Keigan and Keiren ran to Keifer.

Keigan: "Kuya, you were so COOL!"

Keiren: "You stood RIGHT THERE and looked INTENSE!"

Keifer scooped them both up. "That's all I did."

Keigan: "It was ENOUGH."

Grazel Jay tugged Jay's hand. "Tita Jay, you were on TV! You said 'future husband'! That's Kuya Keifer!"

Jay knelt to her level. "That's right, baby."

Grazel Jay: "Can I be flower girl NOW?"

Jay laughed. "Soon. I promise."

Grazel Jay: "YAY!"

The chaos wrapped around them—loud, warm, home.

Jay looked at Keifer.

He looked at her.

And in that look was everything—the past they'd survived, the present they'd claimed, the future waiting to be built.

Jayfer forever.

Always.
