Chapter 20 - Chapter 20—Oarwood

Oarwood. One of the only few towns that existed outside the major cities.

Because of the dungeon beasts, only very few cities dared not have a wall. And Oarwood was one of those cities.

Ryan stepped out of the train and onto the Oarwood train station. The station was big and seemed to have powerful guards stationed around the premises.

This was in case of an attack from a beast horde. Oarwood station was the ONLY place that would be fully protected.

Soon enough, Ryan walked into the city grounds. Unlike Kaznis, Oarwood wasn't as developed.

The architecture was similar to that of the middle-ages. Even the roads, rather than concrete, was made of cobblestone with some parts just being dry ground.

There weren't even any vehicles. Just carriages being pulled by horses and other magical creatures.

The difference between both cities despite not being too far from eachother, was like night and day.

'Huh. Since it was an outskirts town I had assumed it would be horrid but...' Ryan thought as he stared at the sidewalks and the people there.

'...It's not as bad as I'd thought.' he continued. Surprisingly, the people weren't as deep in poverty as one would expect from such a backwater place.

Although it did seem like there wasn't too much enthusiasm going around as they probably suffered monster attacks more often than not.

But...

'Unless it's a monster herd, they should be fine.' Ryan thought.

[]

'Well, it's an outskirt town which makes it perfect for freelance explorers. So this place does have its own security somewhat.

And in a case of a monster herd, Kaznis would probably dispatch appropriate help. Probably.' Ryan explained.

[] G.A.I.A muttered.

Soon they walked past a large skyscraper. One of the only semi-advanced architecture in this town.

'The explorer's association huh.' Ryan thought as he walked past it. 'Figures they're here as well.'

[] G.A.I.A questioned.

'First, a hotel. After all, we'll need a place to sleep after we're done.' Ryan answered simply.

[]

'Yeah. Although it's more of a motel but you get the drift.' Ryan answered.

[] G.A.I.A muttered.

'What is?' Ryan questioned.

[] G.A.I.A responded.

'Well, you know how it goes. Besides it's not as bad as you'd think. Plus they probably have insurance.' Ryan said as he came to a stop in front of a two-storey building.

He then pushed the door open as he walked inside. The interior of the building was okay, though it seemed to be made more for practicality than beauty.

Ryan then walked towards the reception, meeting the young lady who looked to be in her twenties who was manning the reception.

"Good afternoon sir. Welcome to Malgrove Motels." The lady greeted politely.

"How much does a room cost?" Ryan asked getting straight down to business.

"A night is sixty credits." The receptionist replied.

'Huh. That's more expensive than I thought. A motel, sixty credits. Haa. Maybe because of the risks accompanying it huh. Thinking about it now they probably have counter measures against rogue beasts.

And those counter measures would cost money.' Coming to a conclusion, Ryan brought out his card.

"Two nights please." He said as he stretched his card out to the receptionist.

"That will be a hundred and twenty credits sir." The receptionist replied, her professional mannerisms unchanging as she began to work.

'Tch. I thought there'd be a discount.' Ryan clocked his tongue as he complained inwardly.

A few seconds later, the receptionist was printing out a receipt and handed it back to him with his card in tow.

"Upstairs. Room twenty-five." The receptionist added as she handed him a key.

"Are you with any luggage? Do you require any assistance?" She asked further.

"No that won't be necessary." Ryan replied curtly as he walked towards the stairs.

After climbing, he walked past a couple doors, checking the number on them until he got to room twenty-five.

He inserted the key in the door hole and opened it, walking inside.

Upon entering, Ryan looked at the room for a bit.

"Disgusting." He muttered.

The room per say, wasn't dirty or filthy, but the standard was vastly inferior to what Ryan was used to.

He was mostly used to five-star hotels in the major cities after all. And a motel would definitely not be able to compete.

"Huuu. Alright. I've checked into a room, got all my essentials, now..."

Ryan walked towards the window of his room. It was directly facing the mountain range towards the east of the town.

"... Time for harvest."
