Chapter 1 - A Delivery Quest

"A delivery? That's so boring!" Vivian whined.

"Unfortunately there aren't many other jobs out right now that don't require you to get your hands a bit dirty," said Lonnie.

Lonnie was a dwarven man, with a thick beard and a monocle that constantly slipped, so he had to keep pushing it up. He was a "Quest-giver" who would assign parties a quest that was requested by someone else.

"Besides It's a B Rank quest, so it pays well. So quit your whining before you gotta go save another pet lizard!"

Axel, who sat next to his twin sister Nya, tilted his head, "B Rank? A delivery is worth that much?"

Lillith nodded her head in agreement. "What makes this package so special?"

"The client does not wish to disclose that information. Now you all are wasting my damn time so give me a answer!" Lonnie grunted.

"Well since it's worth that much we'll take it!" Altan barked, chugging some of his mead. His fluffy tail wagged in excitement, and Vivian was ogling it as if it were a goblin looking at a shiny piece of metal.

"Great," Lonnie sighed, "I'll tell you about the quest then."

He pulled out a small box, sealed by a spiritual seal. It was smooth, almost pearl-like texture, and a perfect cube shape that was roughly the size of Lonnie's palm.

"You are to take this box, and deliver it to a town called Komia in the southern regions of Silverveil. Here is the map with the town circled," he placed a tightly rolled up piece of paper on the table, "It's for a festival they are having in around 20 days, which should be no problem since the journey should only take 14 days."

"14 days for a delivery..." Vivian yawned, her arms and head laid out on the table.

"Quit whining." Axel said flatly, taking the map.

"Anyways, if you're late, you don't get the full earnings so make sure you get there on time."

Nya leaned away from her brother, "Um, so how much is the job worth?"

"Five gold."

Silence.

Altan took a big gulp of mead, just so he could spit it out violently in Lonnie's face. "WHAT?!"

Lonnie calmly wiped the mix of alcohol and saliva from his face, taking off his monocle to clean it. "Yes, five gold. It's a simple job, all you have to do, is not fuck it up. And of course thank me for getting you such an excellent deal!"

Vivian immediately shot from her seat, groveling on the floor beside him. "Thank you Great Wise One!"

"You are very welcome dear."

Nya giggled fondly at Vivian's grand gesture. Lonnie turned back towards the rest of the group. "Well off you lot go. I'll be here when you return, so I'll likely have a new quest for you once you get back."

Before Lonnie could say anything else, they had all bolted out of the tavern. A waitress approached the empty table. "It'll be 77 copper sir."

He grunted, "Of course those morons left without paying."
