Chapter 309: Ryuu's Concurrent Chanting

The Lambton seemed to thoroughly enjoy Jura's touch, letting out a low, satisfied purr.

"I knew you weren't dead. The Guild announced your death, but I never believed it for a second."

Jura's eyes turned dangerous and fervent. "I just didn't expect you'd actually have the guts to come back here… What, did you come to mourn your dead little friends? Or… are you just like me? Were you drawn back because you couldn't forget its beautiful form?"

"Shut your filthy mouth."

Ryuu's voice was as cold as frost, devoid of a single trace of emotion.

She slowly drew a wooden sword and a kodachi from her back—her weapon, Alv's Lumina, and the blade of her fallen companion, Kaguya Gojouno: Futaba.

Although Alv's Lumina was a wooden sword, its blade gleamed with a metallic luster, clearly the result of highly specialized craftsmanship.

"Oh? Did I strike a nerve?"

Jura's smile grew even wider. "Don't be so cold! We're 'old friends,' after all. Come to think of it, I really should be thanking you. If it weren't for you, how would I have the chance to admire the two greatest works of art in existence at the exact same time?"

He pointed one hand at the poised Lambton and the other at the Juggernaut finishing its "meal" in the distance, a look of pure infatuation washing over his face.

"One is the pet I meticulously trained, and the other is the ultimate treasure of my dreams. And you…"

His gaze shifted back to Ryuu, looking at her as if appraising a rare trophy he was about to claim. "You will serve as the perfect sacrifice to kick off this grand banquet."

"You… absolute lunatic."

Killing intent flashed through Ryuu's emerald eyes.

She didn't waste any more breath. Against a madman like this, words were entirely useless.

The moment Jura's voice fell, Ryuu moved.

She didn't choose to flee, nor did she attack from her high vantage point. Instead, she did the exact opposite.

The edge of the rock platform beneath her feet gave way slightly as she launched herself down like a weightless leaf, plummeting straight toward the Lambton below.

Her action completely caught Jura and the werewolf youth off guard.

"You're asking for it!"

Jura was stunned for a second before a savage grin split his face.

The Lambton reared its massive head, opening its blood-soaked maw wide enough to swallow everything in its path. Its twelve eyes tracked the rapidly descending green figure, fully prepared to welcome the meal delivering itself right into its mouth.

However, just a fraction of a second before Ryuu entered the Lambton's attack range, her seemingly straight descent paused in mid-air in an eerie, gravity-defying stall.

"—Distant forest firmament. Infinite starry sky—"

Her clear, rapid incantation echoed crisply over the roaring noise of the cavern.

Concurrent Chanting.

Ryuu was actually casting a spell while moving at extreme high speed.

Her descent accelerated sharply, her green cloak snapping taut behind her like a straight line.

Her target wasn't the Lambton's head. It was the massive, ten-meter-long body coiled upon the ground.

HISS—!

Sensing the danger, the Lambton violently snapped its jaws shut. With an agility completely disproportionate to its massive size, its giant head whipped around like lightning, snapping fiercely at Ryuu's figure.

But it was too late.

Ryuu was a bolt of green lightning. A split second before the jaws snapped shut, she narrowly grazed past the foul-smelling maw.

The kodachi in her hand, Futaba, dragged across the Lambton's hardened scales, kicking up a blinding trail of sparks and emitting a bone-jarring screech of metal on armor.

"—Respond to the voice of a fool, and grant me once more the protection of the stars. Give the one who left you light and mercy!—"

The chant continued seamlessly.

The instant her body made contact with the snake's torso, Ryuu kicked fiercely against it. Using the recoil, she changed direction once more. Like a dancer gliding across ice, she slid rapidly along the undulating curves of the Lambton's body toward its tail.

"After her! Bite her to pieces!" Jura roared in fury.

The Lambton let out a frustrated screech. Its massive body began to violently thrash and roll, desperately trying to shake off the tiny "flea" clinging to its back.

In an instant, the entire cavern seemed to quake under its frenzied writhing, sending showers of loose rock tumbling from the ceiling.

Yet, Ryuu's figure seemed glued to the snake. No matter how wildly the Lambton rolled, she always found a foothold. Darting rapidly between the gaps in its scales and the shifting contours of its body, she maintained flawless balance, her incantation never pausing for even a breath.

"—Come, wandering wind, traveling wanderer. Cross the sky, race the wild, run faster than anything. Contain the light of the stardust and defeat my enemy!—"

The final verse concluded.

At that precise moment, Ryuu finished her slide, arriving right at the tip of the Lambton's tail.

She stomped hard against the very end of the tail, launching herself high into the air and executing an elegant mid-air spin.

She raised Alv's Lumina high above her head, her green eyes flashing with icy resolve.

"[Luminous Wind]!"

With the release of the magic, countless blinding, fist-sized orbs of light instantly materialized behind her. They clustered together tightly, fanning out like the majestic plumage of a peacock, radiating a terrifying pulse of magical energy.

"Go!"

With a soft shout, the thousands of light orbs transformed into a dazzling torrent. Emitting sharp, piercing shrieks as they tore through the air, they rained down upon the colossal snake below like a torrential downpour.

A dense chain of explosions merged into a single deafening roar. Blinding white light instantly swallowed the Lambton's massive form, illuminating the dim cavern as bright as day.

Violent shockwaves blasted outward in all directions, kicking up a massive cloud of dust and debris.

The werewolf youth was blinded by the sudden flash, instinctively throwing his arms up to shield his face.

Jura narrowed his eyes, his expression turning grim. Through his mental link with the Lambton, he could feel a clear, agonizing wave of intense pain.

The dust slowly settled.

The Lambton's massive body was still coiled in place. But its originally smooth, hardened dark-blue scales were now entirely scorched black. Multiple areas were cracked and shattered, with thick purple blood seeping from the ruptured flesh beneath.

Clearly, Ryuu's strike had dealt substantial damage.

The Lambton let out a low hiss of pain and rage. Its six pairs of eyes turned blood-red with fury as it glared venomously at the green figure gently touching down on the ground.

"Not bad at all, Gale."

Jura's voice grew deep and dangerous. "Looks like you haven't just been wasting away these past few years. But… did you really think it was going to end with that?"
