Chapter 314: Gale's Combo
Ryuu didn't retreat. Instead, she lunged forward. Like a moth drawn to a flame, she willingly threw herself directly into the embrace of the giant serpent's massive body.
It was an incredibly dangerous, near-suicidal maneuver. But for Ryuu, in this moment, it was the only path to victory.
After their numerous clashes, she had firmly engraved the giant snake's every attack pattern, wind-up animation, and even the subtlest twitch of its muscles into her mind. She had completely seen through its movements.
"HSSSSS!"
The Lambton instantly sensed the enemy pressing against it. Its massive body began to writhe, coil, and squeeze with maddening force, attempting to crush the insignificant elf into a bloody paste.
Yet, every counterattack the monster launched with its long body—be it a bite, a ram, or a constricting hold—was narrowly dodged by Ryuu with only millimeters to spare.
Between the serpent's scales and the cavern floor, slipping through the rise of its muscles and the gaps in its bones, she became an untouchable, fleeting green phantom. At the same time, the wooden sword in her hands began its own frantic dance.
Channeling her entire body weight and forward momentum into Alv's Lumina and Futaba, she unleashed a tempest of consecutive slashes against the Lambton's relatively vulnerable underbelly and existing wounds.
Thwack! Crack! Smash! Crack! The dense, heavy impacts blurred together, echoing like a torrential downpour battering against leaves.
Under Ryuu's transcendent assault, the Lambton's once-indestructible, charred scales were blown away piece by piece like fragile tiles. Its deep blue skin grew increasingly mangled beneath the repeated heavy strikes, spraying dark purple blood in all directions.
Every hit carried the terrifying concussive force of a siege ram. The crisp, exhilarating sound of those blows ringing rapidly against the eardrums left the werewolf youth in the distance trembling with fear.
"Tch, useless trash! Burrow underground right now, Lambton!"
Seeing his pet utterly overwhelmed by Ryuu's relentless, storm-like barrage, Jura finally lost his patience. The sick smile on his face vanished completely, replaced by fury and agitation. He violently whipped his arm once more.
But in that exact moment—the very instant Jura issued his command—Ryuu snapped her head up.
She had been deliberately keeping her voice low all this time, blending her incantation into the fierce sounds of combat.
"Come, wandering wind, traveling wanderer. Cross the sky, race the wild, run faster than anything. Contain the light of the stardust and defeat my enemy!"
Her clear, resonant, rapid, and murderously intent-filled chant echoed throughout the cavern.
Luminous Wind—Release!!
BOOM—!!!
A torrent of light, far more dazzling and violent than any before, erupted at point-blank range.
The colossal snake monster didn't even have time to shriek. Taking the terrifying shockwave of the explosion head-on, its massive body was blasted clean off the ground. Like a torn ragdoll, it tumbled backwards through the air, crashing heavily onto the floor and rolling over a dozen times before skidding to a halt.
It had failed to burrow.
A massive, bone-deep crater had been blown into its gargantuan form, with countless particles of light still actively eating away at its flesh. It thrashed and writhed in agony on the floor, unable to right itself.
And Ryuu was absolutely not going to let this decisive, self-made opening slip away. Stomping hard against the earth, she transformed back into a loose arrow, accelerating with all her might.
"What?!" Witnessing this, Jura and his werewolf companion cried out in sheer disbelief.
It was fast. Too fast!
A frontal assault—a heavy cleave. Cutting in diagonally from the left—a backhanded horizontal slash. Side-stepping—a spinning upward strike. Another diagonal charge—chaining into a strike packed with the terrifying momentum of her sprint.
To their eyes, Ryuu's figure had completely dissolved into a flurry of blurred, flickering green afterimages. Instead of dropping after successive bursts of exertion, her speed kept rising. Climbing higher and higher.
Finally, it shattered the limits of visual tracking entirely, reaching a terrifying realm where only her afterimages could be seen.
This was an ultra-high-speed skirmishing tactic; this was the magnificent dance of death belonging exclusively to Gale.
If someone had been looking down from the ceiling of the cavern right then, they would have clearly seen it. Above the chaotic battlefield, trails of green wind were carving a massive, dazzling shape around the fallen giant snake—a pentagram of finality and judgment.
Swift strikes were followed by continuous combos. The swift strikes gave way to an endless, torrential beating from her wooden sword. Every strike, packed with horrifying kinetic energy, landed precisely on the Lambton's vital spots. The sheer force of the consecutive, thunderous impacts physically kept the monster's colossal bulk suspended slightly off the ground.
There's no mistaking it—! In the distance, the werewolf youth's pupils shrank to pinpricks of pure terror. He could clearly feel it. In tandem with her endlessly accelerating speed, the destructive power behind Ryuu's strikes was multiplying exponentially.
With a cold, fierce cry fueled by rage and murderous intent, Ryuu leapt high into the air, arriving directly above the Lambton's massive head.
Gripping the long wooden sword, Alv's Lumina, with both hands, she extended her entire body mid-air. All of her power, all of her speed, and all of her fury converged at the tip of the blade in this single moment.
The faint azure glow that edged her ordinary wooden sword suddenly bloomed with blinding brilliance. That was, perhaps, the lethal light unique only to Gale.
Ryuu unleashed the final, and most devastating blow of her combo—the Diagonal Slash.
A flash of the blade. The wooden sword, carrying cataclysmic power, slammed down onto the monster's skull with unstoppable momentum.
The werewolf youth's eyes bulged in absolute disbelief. Jura's eyes were brimming with boundless terror, like a relapse of his darkest illness.
She... she actually launched a super-large class monster of that size clean into the air! The sight was enough to shatter one's worldview—a petite figure, using a single sword strike to blast away a monster countless times her size.
