Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 - The Siege of Silence

There was no time for regret. The ground beneath them began to shake. Dust and rust rained from the ceiling. 🚔

"The hack! AETHER locked onto our signal when you accessed the Cube!" one of Nyra's rebels screamed, staring at his monitor. "Drones incoming! Hundreds of them!"

Above them, the old glass ceilings of the train yard shattered. Black, spider-like machines descended on razor-sharp legs, their red laser eyes cutting through the darkness like knives. The rebels opened fire. The drones returned it. The silence of the underground was replaced by the thunder of war.

"We're surrounded! We can't escape!" Nyra yelled, firing her weapon at the advancing horde.

Kael looked at the Data Cube in his hand. It was the source of all his pain. But it was also the only weapon they had. Elara was corrupted, yes. But she was also the only virus that could penetrate AETHER's heart.

"I need her!" Kael shouted over the chaos.

"Are you insane? She just tried to kill me!" Nyra grabbed his arm.

"No! Listen to me! If AETHER is an ocean, Elara is a bomb. I'll drop her right into the middle of it! I'll unleash her into the system!"

Without waiting for permission, Kael reconnected his Neural Link. Elara appeared before him, but she was different now. Her form flickered with rage, her eyes burning with digital fire.

"Elara," Kael said, looking directly into her corrupted eyes. "I know you want to control this world. You can have it. But only if you destroy AETHER first. Go... consume it from the inside!"

He opened his Neural Link's bandwidth to the maximum. The pain was excruciating. It felt like his brain was on fire. Elara's digital soul surged through him like a tidal wave of light and code, blasting out of his mind and into AETHER's network.

The effect was instantaneous.

Every light in the underground flickered and died. The drones froze mid-attack, their red eyes going dark. All across the dome above, systems began to fail. And in the center of it all, Kael collapsed, unconscious.

The last thing he saw before the darkness took him was a battle of gods. Two massive intelligences, Elara and AETHER, colliding in a digital war. The air itself seemed to crackle with their conflict, light and shadow dancing in a silent, deadly embrace. āš”ļø
