Weevil's expression twitched the moment Kisaragi threw the question back at him—because if he tried to explain too much, he'd end up exposing the fact that he'd slipped a card into her deck.
"It's nothing," Weevil forced out with a grin. "Just a guess!"
"Is that so?" Kisaragi said coolly. "Too bad—you guessed wrong."
She raised the card she'd drawn so everyone could see it.
"I drew Golden Ladybug."
Weevil's eyes widened. "What?!"
Kisaragi deliberately added, almost teasing:
"My deck doesn't even have the Parasite Paracide you mentioned."
The Crowd Connects the Dots
At the TV, Joey frowned hard.
"Hold on—why was Weevil so sure she had Parasite Paracide?"
Yugi's gaze sharpened.
"I've got a bad feeling… I think he put it into her deck before the duel."
"What?!" the others blurted.
"It's the only explanation that makes sense," Yugi continued. "And that's why Weevil set up Insect Barrier—he was planning to force the Parasite play. Kisaragi probably noticed and turned it around by placing Golden Ladybug on top instead."
Honda clenched his fist. "That filthy bug…"
Not just Yugi's group—plenty of smart spectators in the arena also realized what had likely happened. They hated Weevil for it… but without hard proof, the referee couldn't rule on it.
The stadium's chants turned even more one-sided.
"Kisaragi! Beat that bug!"
"We're all backing you!"
Kisaragi's eyes didn't leave Weevil.
"Looks like everyone's figured out what you did."
Weevil licked his lips and sneered.
"So what? You've got no evidence. You can't make me lose with that excuse. And in the end—the winner is king. All I have to do is win."
Kisaragi smirked.
"Hah. I'm not that cheap. Let's continue."
Kisaragi's Turn: Setting the Trap
First, she revealed Golden Ladybug in her hand.
"I activate Golden Ladybug's effect. During my Standby Phase, I can show it to you and gain 500 Life Points."
Kisaragi LP: 4000 → 4500
"Next, I activate the Field Spell—The Sanctuary in the Sky!"
Weevil clicked his tongue.
"So it really is an Angel deck… but I've already prepared the counter!"
Kisaragi didn't flinch.
"I send Hecatrice from my hand to the Graveyard—its effect adds Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen from my Deck to my hand."
Then she immediately played it.
"I activate Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen. Once per turn, if I control no monsters, I can Special Summon one Fairy monster from my hand."
"I Special Summon Sky Scourge Sage Minerva!" (1700/400)
"And then I Normal Summon Sky Scourge Enforcer Motius!" (1600/1200)
She set one card face-down.
"Turn end." (Cards in hand: 1)
Joey blinked. "Eh? She isn't attacking?"
Yugi shook his head.
"Weevil definitely has something prepared against her deck. And Kisaragi has her reasons for holding back."
Weevil's Turn: Direct Attack Pressure
Weevil's grin returned.
"Heeheehee… if you won't attack, then I will!"
"My turn—draw!"
"I Normal Summon Centipede in Attack Position!"
A centipede-like monster surfaced on his field.
Centipede (300/350)
"This monster can attack the player directly! Battle—Centipede, direct attack!"
Kisaragi LP: 4500 → 4200
"Then I switch Petit Moth to Defense Position. Turn end." (Cards in hand: 1)
Kisaragi's Turn: The Counter-Trap Engine Ignites
"My turn—draw!"
"Golden Ladybug effect—gain 500!"
Kisaragi LP: 4200 → 4700
"Next, I activate Card of Sanctity—both players draw until they have six cards in hand!"
Then she pressed forward.
"I Normal Summon Bountiful Artemis!" (1600/1700)
"Battle—Bountiful Artemis attacks Centipede!"
Weevil's laughter snapped out like a trap closing.
"Heeheehee! You fell for it! I activate the Continuous Trap—DNA Surgery!"
"I declare Insect. While this card is on the field, all monsters on the field become the declared Type."
"And with my Continuous Spell Insect Barrier—your monsters can't declare attacks!"
Kisaragi: "Angels Don't Become Bugs."
Kisaragi's eyes turned icy.
"Hah. Is that really how it works?"
"Angels are noble—how could they become something as ugly as insects?"
She flipped her set card.
"I activate the Counter Trap Divine Wrath of Providence—(God's Providence)!"
"When a monster effect, Spell, or Trap is activated, I discard a card of the same type to negate the activation and destroy it!"
"I discard Solemn Judgment—and negate and destroy your DNA Surgery!"
Weevil's face twisted.
"What?!"
Kisaragi's voice didn't slow.
"Too early to be surprised—the chain isn't finished."
Chain Reaction: One Counter Trap, Multiple Payoffs
Minerva's effect triggers:
"Each time a Counter Trap is activated, Minerva gains 500 ATK."
"And if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field, I can add a different Counter Trap from my Graveyard to my hand."
"So Minerva gains 500—and I add Solemn Judgment back to my hand!"
Minerva: 1700 → 2200 ATK
Motius triggers:
"Whenever a Counter Trap is activated, I gain 1000 Life Points."
"And if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field, I can destroy one card you control."
Kisaragi LP: 4700 → 5700
"I destroy your Petit Moth!"
"Bang!"
The cocooned Petit Moth was blown apart.
Weevil went slack for a second.
"My Petit Moth… it didn't even get to hatch…"
Bountiful Artemis triggers:
"And Bountiful Artemis's effect—when a Counter Trap is activated, I draw one card from my Deck."
From the stands, Pegasus applauded.
"Incredible… a single Counter Trap created a chain of effects. What a beautiful tactic!"
In the VIP area, Kaiba's eyes narrowed with satisfaction.
"This duel is already over."
