Right as Mako's turn ended—
"At the end of your turn, I flip open the Continuous Trap 'Call of the Haunted'! By its effect, I Special Summon Dark Magician from my Graveyard in Attack Position!"
Dark Magician (2500/2100)
Téa blinked. "Huh? Why didn't Yugi summon Dark Magician when Leviathan attacked directly?"
Kisaragi answered immediately.
"Because Mako has 'Submarine Ambush' face-up. If Yugi had revived Dark Magician during the attack, Mako would've used that trap to destroy him on the spot. That would've been a terrible trade."
Yami Yugi's Turn: He Tries to Clear the Backrow
"My turn—draw!"
"I activate 'Pot of Greed'! Draw two!"
Seeing what he drew, Yami Yugi's mouth curled upward.
"I activate 'Dark Magic Attack'! As long as Dark Magician is on my field, this destroys all Spell/Trap cards you control!"
Dark Magician raised his staff, ready to wipe the entire backrow.
"Nice! If he clears Mako's Spell/Traps, he can finally attack!" Joey shouted.
Kisaragi shook his head slightly.
"Not necessarily. Submarine Ambush still has another effect it hasn't used."
Kaiba frowned. "It has another effect?"
"Yeah. Keep watching."
Mako smiled like a shark.
"Yugi… you're still too green."
"What?!" Yami Yugi's eyes narrowed.
"I activate Submarine Ambush's second effect—once per turn: I banish one WATER monster I control until the End Phase. For the rest of this turn, my face-up Spells/Traps can't be destroyed by your card effects!"
"I banish The Legendary Fisherman!"
The ocean surface surged upward like a wall, blocking Dark Magician's spell.
"So Atlantis and Submarine Ambush both survive!" Téa gasped.
Yami Yugi's thoughts sharpened.
So I can't break it this turn… then the priority is surviving the next wave.
"I set one card. Turn end." (Cards in hand: 2)
"At your End Phase, my Fisherman returns to the field!" Mako declared.
Cutaway: Pegasus Moves His Piece
In Pegasus's castle, he watched Yami Yugi calmly.
"Yugi-boy… if you can't stop your opponent's next attack, you'll lose."
A servant leaned in and whispered after taking a phone call.
Pegasus's eyes gleamed.
"So the Big Five… to better leash Kaiba-boy, they've brought Mokuba-boy to me."
The servant asked, "What are your orders?"
Pegasus took a slow sip of red wine.
"Put Mokuba-boy in the dungeon."
"Yes!"
Back at the duel site, Kaiba suddenly felt a chill—his expression tightened.
"Kiba, what is it?" Kisaragi asked.
"…Nothing," Kaiba said, forcing himself back to the screen. "Keep watching."
Mako's Push: "This Duel Ends Here!"
"My turn—draw!"
"Yugi—this turn, the duel ends!"
"I Normal Summon 'Ocean Dragon Lord' in Attack Position!"
Another blue sea monster appeared—similar to Leviathan, but lacking the green-and-pink fins.
Ocean Dragon Lord (1800/1500)
"Battle!"
"The Legendary Fisherman attacks Dark Magician!"
"And I activate Submarine Ambush—destroy Dark Magician!"
Mako's harpoon shot out again—aiming to replicate the same kill…
If Dark Magician falls here, Yugi collapses.
But Yami Yugi's eyes were calm.
"Heh… you think I'll lose to the same trick twice?"
He flipped his set card.
"I activate the Trap—'Magician's Illusion'!"
Dark Magician sprang upward, slipping past the flying harpoon.
"What?!" Mako snapped.
"This card makes one DARK Spellcaster I control with 2000 or more ATK—for this turn—cannot be destroyed by battle and is unaffected by the opponent's card effects!"
"So this turn, Dark Magician won't be destroyed by Submarine Ambush!"
"Damn it…! My turn ends." (Cards in hand: 3)
Téa exhaled hard, finally releasing the breath she'd been holding.
Joey clenched a fist. "But if he can't solve this soon…"
Kaiba turned to Kisaragi. "So? What do you think?"
Kisaragi's eyes stayed on the flooded battlefield.
"The key is the Field Spell. Mako's entire deck is built around it. If the field disappears, he can't function."
Kaiba scoffed. "But Submarine Ambush can prevent the field from being destroyed. Doesn't that mean Yugi's doomed?"
Kisaragi smiled faintly.
"You don't have to destroy a Field Spell to get rid of it."
Kaiba's gaze sharpened—he understood.
Yami Yugi's Turn: The Breakthrough
"My turn—draw!"
First priority: Submarine Ambush…
Yami Yugi stared across the endless ocean—then something clicked. His lips lifted.
"Looks like Yugi's about to counterattack," Kisaragi said.
"I activate 'Graceful Charity'! I draw three cards, then discard two."
"My deck has a card that can solve this situation."
Yami Yugi closed his eyes, drew three—then opened them with confidence and sent two cards to the Graveyard.
"Mako—I've found the way to deal with your Submarine Ambush!"
Mako's voice tensed. "Impossible! As long as I have monsters, you can't destroy my Spells and Traps!"
"Who said I need to destroy them?" Yami Yugi replied.
Mako stiffened. "What?!"
"This card will be the key to defeating you."
Yami Yugi placed a card on the table.
"I activate the Spell Card—'The Rustling of the Forest'!"
