Chapter 13 - The Oath Awakens

The Message

Far from Ha Jin territory, deep in the mountains, the obsidian lantern pulsed once.

Three figures waited in silence, their robes plain, faces expressionless.

"The token activated," the youngest said.

The oldest, eyes cold as obsidian, spoke: "It's time."

No pause. No hesitation. No speculation. Just action.

"Phase One begins immediately," the middle figure stated. "Our mission has always been absolute."

Torches flared along hidden walls. Weapons long sealed revealed themselves. Maps unfurled. Assets long dormant stirred.

They moved like a single organism—silent, precise, disciplined. Not curiosity, not observation. Obedience. Oath. Duty. Execution.

At his estate, Seo Jin-Ae sipped slowly from his porcelain cup.

"The gray-robed observer has withdrawn," the messenger reported.

Seo Jin-Ae's fingers paused above the chessboard. One black piece moved forward. Slowly. Deliberately.

"Withdrawn… or drawn away?" he asked, voice calm.

The messenger stammered. "Withdrawn, my lord. No further contact."

Seo Jin-Ae smiled faintly, almost invisible.

"Withdrawn… or repositioned. There is always meaning when Ha Min Jae moves before the game is fully visible."

He tapped another piece forward, lightly.

"The Ha Jin clan will act. They always act. But one must wonder… how many of their moves are real… and how many are traps?"

His gaze flicked to the messenger. Cold. Calculating.

"Let the world see the Ha Jin pieces move. Let the first to respond be the one who reveals their hand."

A soft pause. "Those who answer too quickly… underestimate the quiet players. Those who hesitate… expose their fear."

At the estate, the gray-robed observer turned to Ha Min Jae.

"You maintain balance well," he said, voice low. "But something activated… elsewhere."

Ha Min Jae inclined slightly, expression unreadable.

"Not balance. Control. Balance is for the unprepared."

The observer nodded. His eyes narrowed faintly.

"Then you do not measure them… you direct them."

"Sometimes the chessboard is set before the pieces even arrive," Ha Min Jae replied.

The observer stepped into his carriage. He did not leave because inspection was complete. He left because the ripple had begun.

And when the ripple begins… it cannot be ignored.

Miles away, the organization that received "It's time" advanced silently.

But not toward Ha Jin's main estate. Not yet.

Instead, shadowed agents infiltrated key supply lines, whispered rumors among local allies, and discreetly removed strategic obstacles—all before anyone could notice.

They left no messages. No threats. Only subtle, calculated shifts.

By the time Seo Jin-Ae received the first intelligence, he froze.

The roads had been altered. Patrols quietly neutralized. Hidden routes closed. Important messages redirected.

"Impossible…" he whispered. *They moved before anyone could see them move.*

His hands hovered over the chessboard. A bead of sweat traced his temple."They are… already inside the game," he muttered.

Under the moon, Hēi Lang practiced alone. Wooden sword in hand, silent breaths.

The observer had left. The spy still whispered.

And yet… the air felt heavier. Something shifted far beyond the estate.

*Father moved. They moved. The world is expanding… faster than before.*

He cut through the night air. Heaven Severing — Fourth Seal. Every strike precise. Controlled. Observed.

He exhaled slowly.*If they are moving already… I will need to be faster.*

Far away, the obsidian lantern burned steadily. The message had been simple:

**It's time.**

And for those bound by duty… that was all the reason they needed to act.

Seo Jin-Ae moved another piece.

"Ha Min Jae just reshuffled reality without revealing his hand," he said softly.

The messenger frowned."Shall we escalate?"

Seo Jin-Ae's eyes darkened.

"No. Not yet. Let him believe he moves first. Let the first visible change be the one he regrets."

He leaned back.

"The quiet player moves in shadows. But even shadows can cast a long light."

In the courtyard, Hēi Lang lowered his sword. Relatives laughed at his spilled water. But he did not notice. His mind was mapping. Timing, routes, hidden chambers.

The board was alive.

The game had truly begun. And everyone—Ha Jin, Seo Jin-Ae, the gray-robed observer, the oath-bound organization—was playing.
