"Regrettably, Sister, the dinner is already over."
Makima's voice was cold, and a faint halo, shaped like an umbilical cord, appeared above her head. This was the manifestation of her Control over the Angel Devil. She could summon lifespan weapons; the longer the lifespan consumed, the stronger the weapon. If a thousand-year lifespan were used, the weapon could even severely wound the Black Saw.
"Three hundred years, use…"
Fami glanced listlessly at Makima, cutting her off. "Little sister, if you want the Black Saw to stay by your side, I can help."
Makima's face remained calm, but her heart skipped a beat. Fami had seen through her thoughts.
Fami casually scanned the menu. "Curious how I know? Simple. I used the Eternal Devil to imprison the Justice Devil and starved it, turning it into my pawn. Mind reading is unique to the Justice Devil."
One of the Hunger Devil's powers was to convert hungry beings into pawns, similar to Makima's idealistic Control, but it required hunger as a prerequisite. What Fami said wasn't entirely true.
Makima's gaze hardened. "Your pawn? Sister, save that lie for War. You've already absorbed the Justice Devil, made a contract with Asa Mitaka, and planned to activate the War Devil. And those earrings? They're quite the statement."
Fami's balance-scale earrings symbolized justice, though her head was never perfectly straight—a metaphor that absolute fairness never exists. Facing Makima, Fami nodded casually. With too many eyes watching, hiding anything from her eldest sister was impossible.
"Except for our Eldest Sister, still slumbering, Control is indeed the smartest among us three," Fami said. "But my offer to help you was true. So… can my little sister treat me to a meal?"
Food and clothing were abundant in this era, and physical hunger faded. Spiritual hunger, however, persisted. Fami alleviated her physiological hunger by eating immediately, but spiritual hunger demanded constant stimulation—and for her, nothing was more satisfying than tormenting her eldest sister, the Death Demon.
Days ago, when Asa and Cael visited the Dome Amusement Park, Fami hired a man to give a War speech, boosting fear and increasing the War Devil's power. Now, her visit to Makima had the same purpose.
Fami ate Indian-style, using her hands, getting food all over herself. A drunken man, having finished dinner, stepped out, then inexplicably back into the izakaya. Makima's eyes flickered. At some point, Fami had let the Eternal Devil swallow the entire restaurant.
With a faint smile, Makima said, "Eternal Devil? Hunger, you don't really think that can trap me, do you?"
"Call me Fami," she said casually, licking her fingers. "I just wanted my meal undisturbed. And since we haven't seen each other for a while, you won't mind catching up, right?"
The Eternal Devil could manipulate time and space, creating a pocket reality where time stood still and captives fell into eternal loops. Against Makima's Control, it was insignificant—a gutter-tier devil. With a thought, she could make it commit suicide.
"I do mind," Makima said calmly, meeting Fami's eyes.
"Oh," Fami said nonchalantly, already swallowing a mouthful of ramen. "The Nostradamus Great Prophecy: in the 7th month next year, the king of terror will descend, ending humanity's era, replaced by devils."
"I know," Makima replied, propping her chin. "Public Safety experimented with 30 prisoners, having them sign contracts with the Future Devil to see their death dates."
"Twenty-three of them received the prophecy they'd die next July," Fami added.
Makima gave a contemptuous smile. "Our Eldest Sister, the Death Demon, will revive in July, but as long as my plan works, the era of devils won't come. The prophecy can be corrected."
Fami shoveled rice with her hands. "With little sister's current strength, you're indeed qualified to challenge Eldest Sister. Control, let's cooperate. With both of us, preventing the prophecy is possible."
"Cooperate?" Makima smiled faintly. "I don't just want to deal with Eldest Sister. Hunger and War too… it'd be better if you all just disappeared."
Burp~
Having eaten her fill, Fami tilted her head. "Little sister is scary. I have no enmity and even want to fight Eldest Sister with you." She showed no fear, wiping her mouth with a tissue before standing.
"Since little sister won't cooperate, I'll continue supporting Third Sister…"
Fami's figure gradually disappeared, leaving a faint reminder. "Controlling the Black Saw isn't easy. But don't worry. I'll always be your backup. I'll nurture Third Sister into the king of war to use against the king of terror. By the way, I didn't bring money, so the bill's on you."
