Chapter 231 - Chapter 231: The Last Forge

Gen rose from the debris. His body was tired, exhausted to its marrow, but he understood its language now—the ache of spent Qi, the tremor of overtaxed muscles, the deep, cold fatigue of the soul. He bore it in silence.

His gaze was not fixed on Buqu this time, but on Liang.

His best friend. Liang was back. After months of absence, after the fracture of words in a snowy hut, after a silence that had felt like a wound. He was here, burning in the sky like a fallen star.

Yet Gen knew. Liang was here for only one reason. And that reason was moving toward them again, pushing through the pain.

Buqu observed the newcomer, his face a mask of serene assessment despite the furious miracle-fire eating his left side. "Another seedling. Good. Good." His voice was a grating rumble. "The more **Forged Destiny** faces a challenge, the harder it becomes to counter. Tempered in the heat of worthy opposition."

The Titan Ape exhaled deeply, a world-weary sigh. From its mouth and pores poured another dense cloud of primordial smoke, a final camouflage that blanketed the entire mountaintop in an opaque, swirling grey. A thought, heavy and ancient, pressed into Gen's mind. *"If you can restrain or distract him… for a few seconds… my next blow will deal with him."*

Gen took a faint glance at the Ape's form, now visibly dimming, its golden light guttering like a candle in a storm. Then he looked at his friends—Juxian, pulling himself from his crater, one arm hanging uselessly; Liang, hovering with cold, fiery purpose. Determination etched itself onto Gen's face.

Although he and Liang were not as they were in the past, on this particular day, at this particular moment, they were brothers in arms. They would stand together.

"Liang," Gen said, the name feeling both familiar and strange on his tongue.

"Gen," Liang replied, his voice devoid of its old warmth, but solid with intent. "Let's do it together."

Juxian rose to his full height, nodding once, his jaw set. His eyes were on Buqu, on the axe, on the burning arm. He was ready.

Gen shifted his attention back to the Divine General. They didn't need to win. They just needed to buy a minute. To be the anvil against which the Titan's hammer would fall. This time, Buqu would not escape.

Buqu's expression was serene as he stared at his opponents. Over his numerous battles across numerous worlds, he had never faced the edge so closely. He was so near to a point where even he was uncertain of the outcome. It was… exhilarating.

"Come," he commanded, spreading his arms, the burning one shedding sparks of defiant light. "All of you. At once. Give all you have. Put not just your strength, but your *soul* into your attacks. Only this way can you transcend. Only this way can you reach the peak."

Gen felt his mind tick at Buqu's words. They were enemies, locked in a fight to the death, yet the wisdom in those words was vast, honed over eons. Buqu knew nothing of the Wheels of Destiny, but his depth of understanding—of conflict, of will, of the forging of self through extremity—was profound.

"Shut up and fight!" Juxian roared, cutting through the philosophy. The **Jingdao of the Agile Mountain** flared out to its peak around him. He became a projectile of pure, focused fury. He shot forward, not in a blur, but in a beam of solidified intent, his fist condensing all his anger—for his Grand Pa spending his last breath, for his friends broken and scattered, for the Damocles hanging over every dream. It was a fist containing his soul, just as Buqu had said.

Buqu raised **Forged Destiny**, blocking the fist head-on.

***KRA-KOOM!***

The impact was stellar. The Divine General was forced to skid backward, his boots carving smoking furrows in the stone. His free, burning arm fought against the air, grappling through it to slow his momentum.

In the same heartbeat, Gen appeared at Buqu's side, sheathed in the **Eternal Body's Second Door**. He aimed a shin-breaking kick at Buqu's knee.

Buqu was fast, ducking the kick and swinging **Forged Destiny** in a horizontal arc to tear Gen in two.

But Gen was faster. He used the momentum to curve *into* the void, using **Shidao** to manipulate the air and **Jingdao** to compress it into a springboard, flipping over the axe's trajectory.

At the same moment, Liang unleashed his **Miracle Fire**. It didn't spray. It *danced*. Beams of incandescent gold twisted into coiling dragons, their movements sinuous and malignant, their fiery teeth lunging from all angles to bite and consume.

Buqu's face straightened, all serenity gone, replaced by fierce concentration. "Good! BRING IT ON!"

He did the unthinkable. He threw **Forged Destiny**.

The massive axe left his hand not like a thrown weapon, but like a released comet. It spun, summoning a wake of crackling, grey lightning, and tore through the dancing Miracle Fire dragons, aiming straight for Liang's heart.

Alarmed, Liang shifted in the sky, a streak of fire himself, evading the colossal weapon by an inch. But it wasn't over. The axe *curved* in space, defying physics, and continued its relentless chase. Buqu was willing to deprive himself of his strongest weapon to prevent Liang from freely using the one thing that could permanently wound him.

*This was their chance.*

Gen summoned the **Sword of Infinity** once more. His power pulled from that sliver of the infinite, creating not a beam, but a localized *rain* of eternal force. The impacts landed on Buqu like miniature collapsing universes, pounding his reinforced body, driving him to one knee.

But as the fight raged, Gen knew with cold certainty it was just a matter of time before they were outlasted. Buqu was too resilient. They needed to restrain him. Just for a few seconds.

He glanced at Juxian's Grand Pa.

The Titan Ape had begun to change. It was accumulating Qi, not around, but *within* its body. Its colossal form began to shrink, compressing millennia of primordial power into a denser, smaller frame. It retained the aura of an ape—powerful limbs, a lashing tail—but now stood only twice the height of a man. In its hands, condensed from light and will, was a golden staff, humming with catastrophic potential.

*It is time,* the thought echoed in Gen's mind.

Gen nodded. He unleashed his consciousness, pushing past his limits to summon the **God Asylum**. His Qi left his body in a torrent, shooting straight at Buqu to envelop him. The familiar, terrifying energy of a prison meant to hold a deity spread through the air.

Buqu smirked even as the infinite rain pummeled him. "This thing will never work on me! It has never worked in the past!"

Gen didn't listen. He didn't need it to hold. He needed it to *anchor*. Around Buqu's ankles, dark chains of solidified spatial pressure began to coil, clicking and groaning as they tried to lock into place.

At the same time, Liang, still evading the homing **Forged Destiny**, pointed a finger straight at Buqu. From his fingertip erupted not fire, but a **sealing vortex**—a sphere of swirling, absolute black that sucked at light, sound, and Qi. It was cold, silent, and wrong. It was not any application of the Wheels Gen knew. It was something darker, something he had only felt in the past, with Yaun. The chill of corrupted principle.

There was no time to dwell on it.

Just as **Forged Destiny** curved for a final, killing strike at Liang's back, Juxian stepped out.

He did not dodge. He *caught* it.

His hands, reinforced to their absolute limit, slammed into the haft of the spinning axe. The force was monstrous. The sound was the scream of breaking stone. Cracks spiderwebbed up Juxian's forearms. The grey lightning wreathing the weapon arced into his body, charring his robes and searing his skin. He gritted his teeth, muscles bulging, feet grinding into the mountain stone as he was pushed backward.

"DO IT NOW!" Juxian roared, his voice raw. "LET'S GIVE GRAN PA A GRAND FINISH!" Tears, instantly evaporated by the lightning, traced lines through the soot on his face.

The now human-sized Ape Titan moved. It hefted its golden staff and shot forward. Not with the ponderous might of a mountain, but with the lethal precision of a master warrior. It tore through sound and space, a blur of condensed annihilation, its staff aimed not at Buqu's body, but at the core of his will—his head.

Paralyzed by Gen's forming **God Asylum** and Liang's consuming vortex, Buqu could hardly move.

But despite it all, he never gave up. Not now. Not ever.

He raised his burning left arm, the miracle-fire now chewing into his shoulder, and met the staff head-on as he tilted his body.

***SHLIIING—CRUNCH!***

The impact was direct, savage. His entire left side gave in. Bones, divine in nature, cracked from within. The force birthed a silent, expanding nova of golden light behind him. At the same time, the Ape Titan's form dissolved, its last vestige of power spent, turning into a shower of fading, luminous particles.

Buqu did not roar in pain. He roared in *defiance*. With a surge of will that shattered the nascent chains of the **God Asylum** and ruptured Liang's black vortex, he broke free.

His eyes turned deeper, harder, like chips of a dead star. He raised his arms, and **Forged Destiny**, still locked in Juxian's grip, *obeyed*. It wrenched itself free, shattering Juxian's already broken hands and hurling him into the mountainside with a final, sickening ***THUD***. He did not rise.

Buqu grabbed his returned axe and shot towards Gen and Liang. The Miracle Fire had consumed his entire left torso, turning him into a walking torch of divine agony, but he hadn't given up. This charge held no intention to win. It held the intention to *end it*, right there and then, to take them into the grave with his forged will.

Shelia pulled out of Gen at that exact moment.

She materialized in front of him, a being of shimmering, sentient light. She looked over her shoulder, her ephemeral features holding a soft, sad smile. "Gen," she said, her voice a bell-like chime in his mind. "I am glad to have shared all these moments with you."

Before he could cry out, before he could even form a thought in response, she turned.

She became a beam of pure, selfless intention, a lance of domain-born will, and entered into a direct, head-on collision with Buqu's final charge.

Their Qi clashed—the relentless, imposing forge of destiny against the gentle, boundless freedom of a sky-dancer's domain. The conflict was vicious, absolute, and over in less than a millisecond.

From the side, standing next to his changed, fiery best friend, Gen saw it.

Buqu and Shelia.

They turned into particles of light.

Two opposing principles, two immense wills, cancelled each other out in a silent, blossoming sphere of white and gold that consumed the mountaintop, the sound, the very concept of the conflict.

And then, there was nothing but a fading radiance, a gentle rain of dying luminescence, and an empty, aching silence where two titans had stood.
