Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: Karl’s Conditions

Karl looked at Charles with a cold, faint smile.

If you knew it would end like this… why do it in the first place?

Yet killing Charles Xavier was never truly an option.

Charles could die — but not by Karl's hand.

If Xavier's death shattered Jean's psyche and released the Phoenix sealed within her, the consequences would be catastrophic.

Worse still, Xavier was a symbol among mutants. Even Magneto — his oldest friend and ideological rival — would never ignore his death. If Charles died here, Magneto would hunt Karl without hesitation.

Benefits were preferable to escalation.

Karl's eyes narrowed slightly.

"I want genetic samples from every mutant in your laboratory — including your own," he said calmly. "And explain what you meant earlier. If you weren't the one who truly wanted to deal with me… who was?"

Charles exhaled slowly.

"Sigh… very well. I agree to your terms."

He looked exhausted — not from defeat alone, but from the weight of consequences.

"It was not my intention to attack you," Charles continued. "Nick Fury contacted me. He asked me to take action against you. I agreed outwardly… but I knew he was trying to use me without offering anything in return."

Karl's eyes flickered with cold understanding.

"Nick Fury," he sneered softly. "I see."

Then his voice hardened.

"Give me the samples."

Xavier Fulfills the Agreement

"Wait a moment."

Charles closed his eyes.

A gentle psychic pulse radiated outward — not toward Karl or Tony, but toward the lower level of the institute.

Deep beneath the grounds, Beast had escorted most students into the reinforced Danger Room complex — a facility built to withstand extreme assaults, including nuclear-level impacts.

Minutes later, Hank McCoy emerged carrying a sealed metal case.

He placed it carefully before Karl and Tony.

Karl lifted the lid using telekinesis.

Inside were cryo-secured vials, each labeled with genetic identifiers.

He scanned them briefly:

Logan (enhanced healing & skeletal adaptation)

Ororo Munroe (atmospheric bioelectric manipulation)

Scott Summers (optic energy emission regulator)

Kitty Pryde (molecular phase shifting)

Robert Drake (omega-level cryokinesis potential)

Jean Grey (telepathy/telekinesis — restricted classification)

Charles Xavier (alpha telepathic matrix)

Karl closed the case.

The samples floated beside him.

He turned and began walking away.

Departure

As Karl and Tony passed Jean, neither noticed the faint flicker of crimson light deep within her eyes.

Outside, Tony engaged his thrusters and launched skyward.

Ice crystal wings unfolded behind Karl as he lifted into the air.

The Shadow Ninjas dissolved back into darkness.

Two remaining Stark helicopters fell into formation and followed.

Even the destroyed helicopter wreckage was removed by shadow constructs — leaving minimal recoverable evidence.

Aftermath at Xavier's Institute

Silence fell.

Charles finally exhaled.

The Xavier Institute lay devastated.

Only the main academic structure remained intact.

Dormitories, training fields, and auxiliary facilities were reduced to rubble.

The academy had housed children — not soldiers.

Most had never seen combat.

Many had been sent here by fearful families.

Others had been rescued by the X-Men.

They were children with abilities — not an army.

Charles reached out telepathically, guiding older students from the reinforced training complex.

They assisted in transporting the injured.

Logan remained encased in cryo-ice — alive, but immobilized.

His healing factor could not overcome molecular stasis.

CRACK

Colossus shattered his ice prison and rose, surveying the destruction.

Students rushed the wounded toward the infirmary.

Without a word, the steel giant stepped forward to help.

Fury Observes

From orbit, S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites captured everything.

Nick Fury watched in silence.

No audio.

But he could infer enough.

Tony Stark.

Karl.

Mutants defeated.

Xavier alive.

This outcome was… not ideal.

Tony Faces the Consequences

After returning to Karl's Manhattan estate, Tony checked his phone.

Dozens of missed calls.

Government numbers.

Defense Department.

Rhodes.

Senate offices.

Tony exhaled.

"My problems just arrived," he said dryly. "Using heavy weapons on U.S. soil tends to get attention."

Karl nodded.

"Thank you, Tony. Call me if you need anything."

He turned and left.

Tony watched him go, shaking his head.

"You're unbelievable," he muttered — though a faint smile lingered.

Then he called Rhodes and began damage control.

Karl Returns Home

Karl returned to the manor.

He released Aunt May, Wanda, Pietro, and Peter from suspended cryostasis.

Warmth returned to their bodies.

Color flushed back into their skin.

Aunt May immediately crossed her arms, shivering.

"It's freezing… Carl, what happened?"

Wanda glared at him.

Peter rubbed his head in confusion.

Pietro curled into the sofa, wary but curious.

Karl's voice softened.

"A telepath tried to invade my mind. When that failed, he used Peter to reach me. I froze him first — then all of you — to prevent control."

He paused.

"It's handled now."

Aunt May's eyes widened slightly.

Wanda's anger softened into concern.

Peter blinked in disbelief.

Pietro let out a slow breath.

Karl gestured toward the hallway.

"Go take a hot bath. Warm up."

The crisis had passed.

But the world around them had just changed again.
