Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Farewell to the Hidden Valley

Dawn broke quietly over the Hidden Valley.

Golden sunlight filtered through ancient trees.

The morning mist drifted lazily across the river.

Everything appeared exactly as it always had.

Yet...

Today was different.

Today...

Kieran would leave home.

---

He stood outside the cottage wearing a simple set of dark travelling clothes.

The plain sword Kael had gifted him rested at his waist.

His travel pack sat neatly upon his back.

The silver Spatial Ring rested quietly on his finger.

Crystal looked at him for a long moment.

Without realizing it...

The little boy she had carried through blood and fire had grown.

Not into a powerful cultivator.

But into a young man with kind eyes and a steady heart.

She smiled.

"You look ready."

Kieran scratched the back of his head.

"I don't feel ready."

Crystal chuckled softly.

"Good."

"The day you believe you're ready for everything..."

"...is the day you've stopped learning."

---

Kael walked over carrying two wooden cups.

He handed one to Kieran.

"One last drink."

Kieran accepted it.

The tea was warm.

Sweet.

Comforting.

They drank in silence.

No one wished to break the peaceful moment.

---

After breakfast...

Crystal led Kieran to the old stone marker at the edge of the valley.

The same marker she had shown him weeks before.

Beyond it...

Lay the unknown world.

She stopped walking.

"This..."

"...is where my journey with you ends."

Kieran lowered his head.

"...And where mine begins."

Crystal nodded.

"Exactly."

---

She reached into her robes.

From within, she withdrew a small wooden pendant.

It was carved into the shape of a single leaf.

"I made this many years ago."

She gently placed it around Kieran's neck.

"No matter where you travel..."

"...never forget who you are."

He held the pendant carefully.

"I won't."

---

Kael stepped forward next.

He looked unusually serious.

"Kieran."

"If someone insults you..."

"Walk away."

"If someone cheats you..."

"Learn from it."

"If someone attacks you..."

He grinned.

"...Hit them harder."

Crystal slowly looked at him.

Kael coughed awkwardly.

"I mean..."

"...within reason."

Kieran couldn't help laughing.

"I'll remember."

---

For a while...

None of them spoke.

The silence wasn't uncomfortable.

It was simply...

Enough.

Finally...

Kieran bowed deeply.

Not once.

But twice.

The first bow...

To Crystal.

The woman who had given him a second life.

The second...

To Kael.

The man who had taught him to laugh even during hardship.

"Thank you..."

"...for raising me."

Crystal gently placed a hand upon his head.

"We did nothing extraordinary."

"We simply loved you."

---

Kieran turned toward the path beyond the valley.

His first step felt strangely heavy.

Then...

Another.

And another.

He never looked back immediately.

Not because he didn't want to.

But because he feared he might never leave if he did.

Only after reaching the crest of the hill did he stop.

He turned around.

The cottage stood peacefully beneath the great oak.

Crystal and Kael still stood there.

Waiting.

Watching.

He smiled brightly.

Then waved with all his strength.

"I'll come home!"

Kael raised both hands.

"We'll be waiting!"

Crystal simply smiled.

And nodded.

---

Soon...

Kieran disappeared beyond the mountains.

The valley grew quiet once more.

Kael let out a long breath.

"...It feels empty already."

Crystal didn't answer.

Her eyes remained fixed upon the path long after Kieran had vanished.

Only after several minutes did she finally whisper...

"Travel safely..."

"...my son."

---

High above the valley...

The White Stag stood beneath an ancient tree.

The Silver Eagle watched from the highest peak.

The Ancient Tortoise rested beside the crystal lake.

None had come to the farewell.

Not because they were indifferent.

But because they understood.

Every life had a moment when it had to leave the nest.

The White Stag closed its eyes.

"Another journey begins."

The Silver Eagle spread its magnificent wings.

"May the skies welcome him."

The Ancient Tortoise smiled faintly.

"The valley has fulfilled its purpose."

Silence returned.

Peaceful.

Ancient.

Unchanging.

---

Unknown to everyone...

A pair of golden eyes watched Kieran from the distant forest.

The Nine-Tailed White Fox quietly stepped onto the path he had taken.

It glanced back toward the valley only once.

The White Stag met its gaze.

Neither spoke.

Words weren't necessary.

The fox lowered its head respectfully.

The White Stag returned the gesture.

Permission had been given.

The fox turned once more.

Then silently disappeared after the young traveler.

Not as a guardian.

Not as a servant.

Simply...

As another traveler beginning its own journey.

---

Far beyond the mountains...

The roads leading toward the Grand Academy were already crowded.

Princes.

Princesses.

Nobles.

Commoners.

Guild apprentices.

Sect disciples.

Wanderers.

Each carried their own dreams.

Each believed they would change the world.

None realized...

That among the countless travelers walking the ancient roads...

A quiet young man carrying a plain sword and wearing a wooden leaf pendant had just taken his first step into history.

The Age of Empires continued.

Unaware...

That the Age of Mysteries had quietly begun.
