Chapter 59 - A lecture by the older sister

This news came as a shock to Ryan, but he had expected it.

'This world is very similar to the Middle Ages.'

Forcing girls to marry noblemen was something that happened in that era.

But presumably there was a reason for the prince's desire to marry his sister; his sister was not weak enough to be forced into something she did not want to do.

"What do you mean we will die?"

The crystal lit up, and this was evidence of the transmission of words, according to what Ryan deduced from seeing this crystal while he was speaking.

"As far as I know, the royal family wants me to do something and they threatened to make our whole family criminals for disobeying royal orders."

Ryan thought,

'This is strange.'

"And why should you get married?"

"I think this is something that should only be done by the royal family, or at least by a leader."

Ryan paused, thinking.

'What is this thing?'

'So they need someone to sacrifice. If you succeed, they'll take the credit, and if you fail, most likely...'

Liara interrupted him:

"Yes, I probably won't come back alive because something serious has happened, according to the information I received. However, I still don't know what I'm going to do."

Ryan remained silent for a long time, a sign of his anxiety. His relationship with his sisters improved after he woke up, so he decided to give his family a chance in this life, to love and protect them.

After that silence, Liara spoke:

"Don't worry, I'll be fine. And the wedding will be in five months. I'll come to pick you up from the academy then."

Then she took a deep breath and exhaled.

"Now I want to talk to you about something."

"About what?"

"I heard from Alith that you rescued his daughter and in the process killed one of the kidnappers."

Ryan clenched his fist, the one without the crystal.

'That bastard, after I saved his daughter he does this.'

"I actually thought you would be in a bad mental state after that, as most people, especially children, become mentally unwell after an event like that."

"But after hearing what you said from behind the door, my view of the matter changed."

Then she took another breath and exhaled.

"Little brother, I've lived longer than you and experienced many things. I won't say you're not right that we should kill scum, but there are people who do it because they have to."

"What if we said that there is a poor commoner who steals bread from a merchant every day? What would you do if you were the one to punish him? Would you kill him?"

Ryan hesitated, but then replied,

"I'm not going to get involved because it doesn't concern me."

Liara sighed.

"Let's say you're the one who will punish him, just as you punished that kidnapper with death. So what will you do with that thief?"

"Well, of course he should be punished, but I don't think he should die...perhaps his hand that stole should be cut off."

"And what if you discovered that the thief had a reason for it, which was to feed his five-year-old daughter, as she eats nothing but the stolen piece of bread all day, while the father does not eat anything he stole? Should the little girl be punished as well?"

"In the end, she eat something stolen from her father , even she don't know"

Ryan answered without hesitation

"Of course the girl is not to blame. The father must bear full responsibility, even if he is executed."

"Let's say the father was punished, and you are the one who punished him, and you punished him in the most extreme way for this crime, which is by cutting off his hand. Do you know what this might cause?"

Ryan wondered,

"What?"

"It might make the girl resent the person who did this to her father and turn her into a criminal, or she might become a thief to feed her father who can't earn anything now because his hand was cut off. And as you know, there aren't many people who would let a child work for them and most people tries to exploit them."

Ryan was listening to his sister and what she was saying made sense.

"Therefore, do not rush too much when you are angry, and try to find out the facts first. Of course, I do not mean that what you did was wrong, as there are moments when you have no choice but to kill your opponent to survive."

"But like I told you, try to control your anger next time, and also..."

Liara fell silent.

"What else?"

"About the people you said you would never forgive."

Ryan's eyes widened
