Previously, Sanctuary's alarm had shifted into a blaring self-destruct klaxon. The reactor, now injected with raw "God-Blood," was rapidly experiencing Molecular Instability.
Meanwhile, in one decisive motion fueled by a volatile mix of rage and hope, Louise slammed the needle of the canister directly into the Neural Interface Port located right on her wrist.
The world abruptly decelerated to a crawl. It allowed Louise to see the microscopic dust particles frozen in mid-air.
She could also see the flashes of ACVA gunfire creeping at a glacial pace toward Elena's position. And most terrifying of all, she could feel the purple fluid slowly beginning to invade her bloodstream; a burning, freezing sensation accompanied by an agony that completely shattered the limits of human physical endurance... all of it blurring into one agonizing moment.
The reactor's main display bled into a deep purple.
[SUBJECT ZERO DETECTED]
[INITIATING PHASE INVERSION...]
A split second before everything detonated, Louise only caught a glimpse of Elena's widening eyes. Then, the silence was violently shattered by a roar of energy unlike anything any human ear had ever witnessed.
This unleashed a blinding purple tempest that completely engulfed the vision of anyone present.
Minutes later, after the blinding purple storm had finally subsided, all that remained was a profound emptiness. The deafening roar of the thermal drills, the shrieking self-destruct alarms, even the heavy hiss of the reactor's steam—everything was instantly eradicated.
The chaos was abruptly replaced by a silence so thick and heavy it felt as if the entire atmosphere inside Sanctuary had been violently sucked into a vacuum.
Louise Vane lay flat on her back on the freezing iron floor. Her chest rose and fell with heavy, erratic breaths. When she slowly opened her eyes, the world was no longer what it used to be.
In her vision, the messy tangle of cables, dust, and metallic debris was completely gone. Everything had been replaced by flowing data streams and luminescent pulses of energy.
Louise could now see the residual sound waves bouncing off the walls, manifesting as ripples of dim blue light.
She could also hear Elena's racing heartbeat in the corner of the room, registering as a low-frequency rhythmic thrum. This was pure Bio-Photonic Interference; her optic nerves had been fully infected and mutated by the God-Blood.
Her world was now a silent digital canvas, yet deafeningly loud with sensory information.
She tried to move her hand, but a shockwave of sheer agony instantly slammed into her consciousness. It wasn't just physical pain; it was a torrential flood of memories that did not belong to her.
In a matter of seconds, Louise was plunged into a Neuro-Synaptic Syncretism. The comforting memories of her childhood were violently severed, replaced by the horrifying perspective of an experimental subject thrashing against an ACVA operating table.
Who am I? Louise's mind screamed.
Thousands of desperate shrieks from the victims whose blood coursed through that raw sample were now screaming inside her skull, violently wrestling for space with her own genuine memories. Louise clutched her head as if it were about to split open.
The boundary separating herself, her father, and the countless victims of that cursed project had melted down into a single, shattered resonance.
"Louise... can you hear me?" a voice cut through the abstract cacophony in her head.
Louise slowly turned her head. She saw Elena crawling toward her through the jagged steel debris.
Elena's face was covered in deep gashes and black soot, but behind her trembling pupils, Louise saw something far more agonizing than any physical pain: absolute, pure terror at what Louise had mutated into for their sake.
"Don't... come any closer, Elena," Louise whispered. Her voice carried a terrifying dual resonance, like two completely misaligned audio frequencies trying to speak at once.
Louise attempted to push herself up, but a fresh shockwave of agony slammed directly into her nerve center, causing her body to violently convulse in rebellion.
It felt as if her veins were pumping molten copper, her human blood viciously rejecting the transhuman foreign substance she had just injected.
This was a Cytokine Storm on an extreme, cellular level. Beneath her skin, Louise felt as though thousands of microscopic electric needles were forcefully restitching her muscle fibers. Slowly, intricate geometric patterns began to surface across her flesh, glowing a blinding purple and radiating a heat intense enough to instantly vaporize any water droplets near her.
Elena completely ignored the warning. She continued to reach her hand out, but just a fraction of an inch before their fingers could touch, a violent burst of static electricity arced between them, violently knocking Elena's hand back.
"Argh—!" Louise groaned, her voice now fracturing, heavily distorted by the static hum grinding out of her throat.
Wincing, she swallowed back tears. This was the raw, physical manifestation of her atonement; she desperately craved a simple human touch, yet now she was far too lethal to even be grazed.
Amidst this suffocating despair, the screeching sound of grinding metal caught Louise's attention.
In the corner by the dead magnetic bars, the figure of The Huntsman was struggling to move.
His mechanical chassis was catastrophically ruined. His pristine porcelain mask had shattered in half, exposing a jagged metal jaw and exposed wiring that trailed like bionic veins, actively venting black smoke.
Louise crawled toward him. When only a few inches separated them, a phenomenon of Bio-Resonance occurred. The God-Blood flowing within Louise reacted violently with the residual frequencies inside The Huntsman. Louise stared into the fading crimson eyes of the dying predator.
Behind those mechanical lenses, Louise saw a terrifying reflection of her own future. The Huntsman was the absolute mirror of someone who had allowed themselves to be entirely puppeted by corporate frequencies.
Yet, Louise realized one crucial thing: she still possessed her conscience, and more importantly, a choice.
"I... will never let myself become like you," Louise hissed. She grabbed the primary conduit snaking along The Huntsman's neck and violently ripped it out, shutting down the predatory creature's systems for good.
Louise slumped back, entirely drained. In her earpiece, Ray's transmission flickered back to life, faint but frantic. "Louise, Elena... more ACVA strike teams are converging on your exact coordinates. You have to evacuate the people and any critical assets out of Sanctuary immediately!"
"Elena, go. Leave me here," Louise said, her tone steeped in resignation. "I'm no longer the human you knew. My blood is now a living, breathing archive of every atrocity the ACVA has ever committed. They will undoubtedly hunt me down and capture me to extract the data they need."
Elena fell silent for a fraction of a second, then stepped forward, completely ignoring the painful sting of static electricity radiating from Louise's body. She clamped her thick leather glove firmly onto Louise's shoulder.
"I don't give a damn if you're a monster or a living archive," Elena stated, her eyes burning with unyielding resolve. "Today, in Sanctuary, I absolutely refuse to leave behind someone I now consider a comrade-in-arms. If you are this broken world's final, flawed hope, then I am the one who will make damn sure that hope stays ignited."
Louise finally offered a slow nod. Standing on the precipice of this shattered resonance, Louise Vane was ready to step forward alongside her new ally, prepared to become the most lethal anomaly the Elite Spire had ever faced.
To be continued...

Author's Glossary & Scientific Terms
Bio-Photonic Interference: A condition of optic nerve mutation that allows the subject to visually perceive sound waves and frequency radiation as physical light.
Neuro-Synaptic Syncretism: The forced fusion and assimilation of memories caused by the introduction of cellular memory data from external subjects via a foreign catalyst.
Cytokine Storm: A severe overreaction of the immune system leading to extreme inflammation; in this context, it represents the human body's violent rejection of a bionic or transhuman mutation.
Bio-Resonance: The alignment or synchronization of electromagnetic vibrational frequencies between two bionic entities that share similar foundational components.

A little extra note from me as the author, Zan Apexion:
This chapter of Lazarus Protocol-Project X takes a very deep dive into the physical and psychological toll of transhuman transformation. In my writing, I really tried to push the visual imagery here so it feels just as intense and stylized as reading a high-quality, noir-vibe manhua! We really get to see the horrific cost of the "God-Blood" and what it takes for Louise to truly take control of her own destiny.
Thank you to everyone reading on Webnovel for your continued support of me and my team. Don't forget to leave your votes and comments to keep the fire burning for the next chapter! See you again, everyone! ☺
