Chapter 50 - “Tangled Loyalties”

The city lights glimmered outside the penthouse, but inside, the air felt heavier than usual. Anna sat at the dining table, laptop open, papers scattered, mind racing through every detail of a major project. Oliver was across the room, reviewing financial reports, his brows furrowed in concentration.

Normally, they could balance work and each other effortlessly. But tonight, something simmered beneath the surface — a tension neither wanted to name.

Anna's phone buzzed. A message from a colleague hinted at an issue in the project — something that Oliver would have to take seriously. She frowned, unsure whether to mention it.

Before she could, Oliver's sharp voice cut through the room. "Anna… why didn't you tell me about this earlier?" His tone was controlled, but the edge in it made her pulse quicken.

"I thought… you had it handled," she replied carefully, trying to maintain her composure, though the tiny spike of hurt in his voice made her stomach twist.

He closed the laptop with a snap, standing and moving closer, every step deliberate. "Anna… I can't focus if you hide things from me. We're a team, remember? We share everything."

Her heart pounded, a mix of frustration and desire swirling together. "I wasn't hiding it to frustrate you," she whispered, voice soft but firm. "I just… wanted you to concentrate."

Oliver's eyes softened slightly, but the intensity remained, the dark-romantic pull of his presence making her shiver. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face, his hand lingering. "You're impossible," he murmured, voice low, husky, a growl that only she could hear. "And yet… I love that about you."

The words hung in the air, heavy with desire and unspoken promises. Anna felt her defenses melt. "You're impossible too," she replied, letting herself lean into him.

His lips found hers in a slow, claiming kiss, fierce and possessive, reminding her that no argument could sever the bond they shared. Their hearts beat together, a storm of love, tension, and dark-romantic intimacy that left the world outside forgotten.

Hours later, with the project issue resolved and tempers cooled, they collapsed together on the couch, entwined. Oliver rested his forehead against hers. "We fight, we stress… but I'll always claim you. In every sense," he whispered.

Anna smiled against him, warmth and love flooding her chest. "And I'll always let you," she murmured, knowing that even in conflict, their desire, their dark-romantic connection, would never fade.
