Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Malfoy Family's Vigilance

Harley politely declined Alexandra's invitation and stood in front of her family's tent, watching the Malfoy Family walk away.

Before long, Severus successfully finished setting up the tent and activating the security measures. Then, the snape family sat around the tent, enjoying a rare afternoon tea time.

Harley picked up a chocolate frog, bit off its cute little head in one go, and blinked her eyes as she asked Severus beside her, "Dad, you don't seem to have much of a relationship with the Malfoy Family... why go out of your way to be friendly with them?"

Severus took a small sip of the black tea in his cup and exchanged a look with Lily.

After receiving a positive response from her, he began to explain, "This was a request from Dumbledore. He also hopes you can get on good terms with Alexandra from the Malfoy Family... However, my dear little one, if you dislike Alexandra, you don't have to pay her any mind. Our family doesn't have to listen to Dumbledore for everything."

Lily couldn't help but give a soft chide, "Sev!"

Despite Lily's aversion to the Malfoy Family, she took the task entrusted by Dumbledore very seriously.

Looking at his serious wife, Severus sighed helplessly and continued, "Lily, there are some things that perhaps only I, as a Slytherin, can understand... Within Slytherin House, there exists a strict hierarchy of disdain based on bloodline, filled with discrimination."

"The sacred twenty-eight, led by the Malfoy Family, firmly occupy the top of this hierarchy; Wizards from ordinary pure-blood families reside in the middle; as for students with half-blood status like me, life in Slytherin was actually quite difficult..."

Although Severus also hoped his daughter would be sorted into Slytherin House just like him, he didn't want Harley to get too close to those pure-blood supremacists.

Severus had it all planned out. If his daughter really was sorted into Slytherin House, he would use his authority as the Dean to select a capable half-blood Witch from the upper years to be his daughter's "bodyguard."

As long as Harley didn't take the initiative to provoke those students in the pure-blood circles, the pure-blood students wouldn't actively seek trouble with Harley out of respect for him. Severus believed he could ensure Harley spent a comfortable and safe seven years in Slytherin.

Lily frowned slightly, her eyes revealing doubt and confusion as she asked softly, "But you're also a half-blood. I remember you did quite well in Slytherin back then..."

"That's because I have strength," Severus replied in a deep voice.

"In Slytherin's law of survival, besides emphasizing bloodline, the strong are respected. Very few people now know that the Dark Lord was also a half-blood Wizard. The reason he was able to emerge and thrive in Slytherin was entirely due to his incomparable and powerful strength! That terrifying, absolute power forced those self-important pure-blood Wizards to bow their heads."

It's just that, generally, pure-blood Wizards who receive an elite education from a young age are significantly more outstanding than other Wizards. A half-blood Wizard who earns the respect of pure-blood Wizards through strength often doesn't appear for several years.

Hearing these words, the originally tense expression on Lily's face immediately relaxed, and a faint smile even appeared at the corners of her mouth.

"In that case, there's nothing to worry about! After all, our little princess is a genuine genius~"

Faced with his wife's optimistic and positive attitude, Severus couldn't help but feel a sense of powerlessness wash over him.

He sighed helplessly and tried to explain, "Lily, there is a fundamental difference between talent from the Muggle world and magical talent. You cannot simply view the two as equivalent..."

At this point, Severus paused, because he thought of his daughter's bizarre magical outbursts.

Since he and James were poisoned last time, they had also tried letting Harley cook a few times. Even a mundane fried egg, when flipped by Harley, would turn into dark cuisine that caused uncontrollable vomiting for three hours.

Thinking of this, Severus looked with awe at Harley, who was staring blankly at the strawberry pudding beside him—his daughter might truly be a one-in-a-million genius in Potion-making.

If the Ministry of Magic didn't have regulations prohibiting underage Wizards under eleven from touching Potion ingredients (mainly for fear of accidental ingestion), he would have taught his daughter to brew Potions long ago.

That night, inside the Malfoy Family's luxurious tent.

"Father, do you mean you want me to get on good terms with the snape family's daughter? But she's just a half-blood... Although Professor Snape is a potions master, given the Malfoy Family's status in the British wizarding world, we shouldn't need to go out of our way to be friendly with the snape family, right?"

Lucius looked at the campfire nearby and said in a deep voice, "Alexandra, you must realize that some things in this world cannot be judged by common sense. Bloodline doesn't represent everything—the snape family's tent carries the aura of a joint spell by Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Yet, when we passed Longbottom family's tent this afternoon, I didn't sense Dumbledore's presence. Do you know what that means?"

Alexandra pondered for a moment and replied, "Perhaps because Longbottom family, as one of the sacred twenty-eight, doesn't need Dumbledore's power to protect themselves? Professor Snape is, after all, a Hogwarts Professor; some special benefits are normal."

Lucius rubbed the snake head on his cane, sighing in his heart that his daughter was still too young.

"In these years, the so-called'savior' of Longbottom family has been making quite a splash in the wizarding world, appearing in The Daily Prophet every other day. Don't you find it strange?"

Lucius rolled up the sleeve on his arm, revealing a dark mark that had faded but hadn't completely vanished, and continued, "The Dark Lord is not entirely dead. That old fox Dumbledore certainly knows it, but he allowed the wizarding world's praise of Neville Longbottom while hiding the snape family's little girl in the Muggle world... This already says a lot."

Alexandra was very confused. "What does this have to do with the snape family's girl? She didn't appear in the prophecy."

Lucius lowered his sleeve. To be honest, he wasn't entirely sure what was going on either, but in his subconscious, he always felt that the snape family's girl was not simple.

She was born in Australia and didn't return to Britain with her family until Lord Voldemort's fall; despite being from a wizarding family, she attended a Muggle school.

From the moment Harley Snape was born, news about her only circulated within the small circle of the Order of the Phoenix led by Dumbledore; no one else had even seen a photo of Harley Snape... she has been protected a bit too well.
