Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Side Story: Severus Snape Changing His Fate Against the Heavens (Part 1)

Hogwarts' potions master, Severus Snape, hadn't been sleeping well these past few days. His wife thought he was worried about their precious daughter meeting some punk when she went to Hogwarts... but in reality, his troubles went far beyond that.

For all these years, Severus had kept a secret buried deep within his heart that only Dumbledore knew—when he was eleven, he had foreseen the future ten years ahead.

Before he was eleven, Severus was just a half-blood youth born into a poor family with parents who didn't get along. It wasn't until he received that acceptance letter from Hogwarts that the gears of fate began to turn.

When the eleven-year-old Severus Snape received his admission letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his heart was filled with anticipation and excitement. Yet, at the same time, an inexplicable sense of unease haunted him like a shadow—from then on, he would fall into a strange and bizarre dream every night.

In his dreams, the young Severus entered the gates of Slytherin House as he had wished. However, his best friend Lily was sorted into Gryffindor House, the rival of Slytherin.

What annoyed him even more was that there were four utterly loathsome fellows calling themselves the "Marauders" who buzzed around Lily all day like flies.

All four were students of Gryffindor House, led by the most obnoxious rich brat, James Potter, and the Black family's pure-blood traitor, Sirius. They were always finding ways to prank others for their own amusement.

Meanwhile, Severus, obsessed with delving into the Dark Arts with his other Slytherin classmates, gradually lost Lily's trust and friendship.

Finally, after being publicly humiliated by the Marauders, a rage-blinded Severus lost control and spat the word "mudblood" at Lily.

These words cut deep into Lily's heart like a blade, and from then on, the relationship between them was completely shattered.

Most absurdly, Lily eventually married that despicable James Potter and died tragically at the hands of the Dark Lord, Tom Riddle, because of a prophecy whose authenticity could not be verified!

Although these ridiculous events only occurred in his dreams, Severus couldn't help but feel a chill whenever he recalled that horrific scene.

He swore to himself that even if he had to endure the Crucio curse ten times—a spell so cruel and painful—he would never say such a malicious word as "mudblood" to Lily.

Despite his deep skepticism about the events in the dream, Severus would still wake up in terror whenever the dream froze on the moment Tom Riddle cruelly murdered Lily.

This nightmare plagued him for two months, gradually making Severus start to wonder—could this really be his and Lily's future?

This situation continued until Severus boarded the train to Hogwarts. When he and Lily stepped into a carriage, a group of familiar and loathsome figures appeared before his eyes—the notorious gang of Marauders!

The scene in real life was such a vivid reproduction of his dream that Severus began to realize perhaps this terrifying nightmare wasn't just a ridiculous hallucination.

From that point on, Severus could no longer ignore that bizarre dream.

From his first day at Hogwarts, Severus resolutely changed his behavior. He deliberately kept his distance from those extreme blood-purists, no longer participating in their organized activities or conversations.

As for the Marauders, who often looked for trouble and tried to provoke him, Severus simply turned a blind eye.

As the days went by, James Potter and Sirius Black gradually discovered that no matter how much they provoked Severus, they got no response. Furthermore, Severus didn't hang around with that annoying crowd of Slytherin blood-purists, and he never called Muggle-born Wizards "mudbloods."

The Marauders gradually changed their opinion of Severus, feeling that he wasn't such a bad Slytherin after all, so they gave up on causing him further trouble.

Although Severus and Lily were in different Houses, the distance didn't cause them to drift apart. Ever since Severus decided to stay away from the Death Eater faction, he poured all his energy into studying Potions.

This not only led to Severus achieving academic excellence but also deepened his bond with Lily, who shared his passion for Potions.

It's worth mentioning that when facing classmates who called him a "Slytherin traitor," Severus fought back bravely without flinching. With his formidable strength, he successfully won over many students, including those from Slytherin, and even the Marauders led by James, earning their heartfelt respect.

Since his third year, when Severus was taken as an apprentice by Horace Slughorn, no one within Slytherin House dared to cross him, even though he was always hanging around with the Muggle-born Lily.

Time passed, and by their fifth year, Severus, who had been promoted to prefect, and Lily finally officially established their romantic relationship.

That Christmas, Severus and Lily shared a passionate kiss under the mistletoe, causing James, who was spying from not far away, to tear up with jealousy as he clutched Sirius and sobbed silently.

In the blink of an eye, it was Christmas Eve of 1977. A joyful Lily took Severus to meet her sister, Petunia, and her fiancé, Vernon Dursley.

Severus knew how much Lily valued her relationship with her sister, Petunia. So, even though he harbored deep disdain for Muggles, he maintained a friendly and cordial facade.

At the end of the meal, Severus even went against his conscience to shower praise on the Muggle car Vernon was boasting about, showing great interest.

The pragmatic Vernon considered an Apothecary to be a very respectable profession, and he developed a favorable impression of Severus as well.

Petunia got married at the end of 1977. Lily Snape was invited to the wedding, where Lily happily served as her sister's bridesmaid.

Looking at Lily's radiant smile in the center of the venue, Severus recalled the haggard face of the Lily in his dream—the one rejected by her sister due to James's stupidity—and he couldn't help but clench his fists.

Indeed, only he could give Lily happiness!

On graduation day, Severus specifically changed into an expensive new robe, knelt on one knee to propose to Lily, and succeeded without suspense.

As Severus and Lily embraced, he saw a pale and despondent Potter leaving the shore of the Black Lake, supported by Sirius.

Severus had never felt more refreshed than he did now—James, you loser, go spend the rest of your life with your good buddy Sirius!
