Chapter 49 - 49: Mirren's Wednesday

Rosilia was already in the east archive room.

This should not have surprised me. I had told her the location over lunch the previous day, and Rosilia did not sit on information once she had it. She was crouched in front of the southeast pillar with a small light-crystal from the archive's equipment shelf illuminating the south face, and she was doing something that was not a rubbing and not a sketch but a mana-impression — holding her palm flat against the inscription and running a low-output fire-affinity technique that transferred the engraving's thermal signature onto a prepared impression sheet.

It was a technique I had never seen before and which was, I was fairly certain, from the Braveheart family technique library rather than the academy curriculum.

She looked up when I came in. "You're late," she said.

"We had two markers to check first," I said.
