Chapter 60 You Dog, You Make Me Happy!
Link certainly wanted to witness all the legends, and he even wanted to complete his Pokédex someday.
But how could he possibly do that?
Besides, ever since Ho-Oh, who had joined a raiding party out of curiosity one night at the Treasure Cafe, was defeated by Scizor's "Rock Axe," he realized that ordinary Pokémon weren't necessarily inferior to legendary Pokémon.
"The wild is still too dangerous for a new trainer like me, and I'm not interested in those vague legends. There's no need to risk my Pokémon's life for them."
Cynthia didn't think so. When she showed him the legend about the demon, Link clearly didn't want to give it to her, and she stared at the legend about the "God of Abundance" for a long time before finally pulling it out.
If she wasn't mistaken, he probably planned to explore it himself later when he was stronger enough.
She completely understood this feeling; it was the desire to witness those legends buried by time and the unwillingness to give up the opportunity to others.
Thinking of this, Cynthia suddenly became less eager.
"It's alright, Link. Kitakami Township isn't far anyway. If you'd like to be my assistant for now, I can just fly there with you."
"Sure."
Not everyone gets a chance to hitch a ride with the champion; otherwise, he'd have to work odd jobs to earn money for a ferry ticket back to Snowpoint City…
After breakfast, Link led the Pokémon to the courtyard.
The Pokémon that had been fostered in the pond with the other Fish-type Pokémon had adapted well, clearly getting along well with its fish companions. It had even learned "Water Ring" from Milotic, allowing it to manipulate water for short periods to move in the air.
Unfortunately, Pokémon like this one have almost all their talent points in physical attack, causing its learning of status moves to be exceptionally slow.
"Let's see who learns faster. Actually, once I master 'Water Ring,' I can also help you create water flow in the air."
After speaking, Link spread his right hand, creating a water cube as tall as a person, maintaining its stability while continuously extending upwards into a cuboid.
He could now maintain the water for about 3 minutes while remaining focused; any longer and he would overload and faint.
But how to integrate "Psychic Healer" (he preferred to call it "Life Drop") into it was a complete mystery.
Fish leap!
Seeing the huge water column created by the human, the Pokémon in the pond leaped into it, swimming leisurely.
But they soon discovered that the water was cool and slightly sweet, even having a slight healing effect?
It was "Healing Wine"! Link added "Healing Wine"!
However, the movement of the fish-type Pokémon disrupted the water flow he controlled, forcing him to focus even more intently on maintaining the shape, and soon the water column began to shake uncontrollably, on the verge of falling apart.
"Fu~"
The Fennekin used "Psychic" to take control of the water, forming a perfectly round sphere that floated in mid-air.
A moment later, the water spheres, categorized by the size of the different Fish-type Pokémon, split into numerous water balls of varying sizes, swirling, leaping, and refracting mesmerizing iridescent light in the air.
Regarding the question its trainer had asked it last night about "what it wanted to do," the Fennekin already had a plan.
It wasn't a simple "I want to go to the garden and get some snacks" plan, but a much longer-term goal—
the Fennekin wanted to participate in a Grand Contest, combining with its trainer to create a spectacular performance using water and fire that a single Pokémon couldn't possibly accomplish!
"A Grand Contest, huh? That sounds like a good idea," Link said, fully supporting the Fire Fox's own will. "While Grand Contests also involve battles, they focus on 'spectacularness,' and your mastery of energy and moves can compensate for your lower levels and training."
The Fennekin nodded repeatedly; it had chosen the Grand Contest as its target precisely because of this.
Those opponents all seemed too weak; it could see through the gaps and weaknesses in their energy transitions with its eyes closed.
Link wasn't entirely sure if the "Miracle Eye" really had that effect.
Should he learn it too to spot his opponents' weaknesses and make more accurate and efficient commands?
"Let's sign up and try it out when we get back to Hoenn. We can dominate the Grand Contest while challenging the gyms."
"Fennekin!"
The Water Pulsatilla blinked. A performance of water and fire? It was actually quite interested in the Grand Contest, wondering if there was a doubles mode.
"Meow~"
Litten was unimpressed, lying on the ground, intently watching the fish flying in the air, occasionally trying to pounce and "swat" them down with its paws.
However, it hadn't succeeded yet. After all, the Psychic Water Ball could change direction at any time, while Litten, once airborne, could only do somersaults and turn, unable to significantly alter its movement path.
It pondered for a moment, wondering if it should try using fire-breathing propulsion like the Water Pulse Dolphin's "Water Jet."
Whether it would succeed remained to be seen...
After visiting the Water Pulse Dolphin living in the pond, the Fennekin released all the Fish-type Pokémon and water back into the pond.
"Mr. Kobayashi, I've brought all the Growlithe."
The butler, Shilan, had silently appeared behind him. "Miss Cynthia said you can choose one Growlithe that's willing to go with you."
Hearing this, Litten looked at the Growlithe pack with displeasure. These were the Pokémon the trainer had been longing for?
They didn't seem particularly impressive.
Link looked in the direction of the voice and saw five Growlithe with different hairstyles (looking quite green), all sitting upright with smiles on their faces, pretending to be reserved.
"These are all Growlithe from the deepest, most remote part of Blizzard Island, a group that has never interacted with the outside world. To help them understand the outside world, we entrusted them to Officer Jenny for a period of socialization training."
Although they were all eliminated because they lacked the "Justice" trait, this group of Growlithe sitting in a row possesses qualities comparable to professional police dogs in every aspect, and can be commanded by any trainer.
Link approached the Paw Patrol team with satisfaction and earnestly introduced himself: "Hello, I'm Link, a rookie trainer aiming for Team Sunny."
"Woof!" *5
Why is it even responding? Truly worthy of being a police dog trained Growlithe.
"My short-term goal is to collect all the badges within three months to qualify for the League Conference, win the Hoenn League Grand Prix a few months later, and challenge the Hoenn League Overlord Champion a year later.
"If any of you don't mind battling and training, and aspire to one day defeat the champions of Hoenn, Sinnoh, and even more regions, then join my team and work together towards this goal!" Hearing Link say he would defeat Cynthia, the Paw Patrol looked around nervously. They all knew just how powerful that trainer was; could they really defeat her?
But a moment later, a Growlithe with the same hairstyle as Cynthia stepped out from the Paw Patrol.
It didn't want to do basic training in the villa every day; it was time to embark on a journey with a trainer and strive towards that Earth Dragon's goal!
"I welcome your challenge anytime, Link, but we should fly to Kitakami Township now."
