The Watcher Station. Main control room.
The alarm shattered everything.
"OFFICER! Outer radar is down! Spatial warp signatures — everywhere!" An agent's fingers blurred across the keyboard. The holographic screen erupted with red contacts.
Jake stood. "Numbers?"
"Three thousand — no, FIVE THOUSAND! Kree cruisers, Skrull assault ships — they've warped directly into lunar orbit!"
Jake's eyes went cold. The three-empire fleet had bypassed every Solar System defense and landed on his doorstep.
"Planetary-grade shield — raise. All railguns — fire at will."
He turned toward the armory.
A muffled explosion from the ventilation duct.
CHIII—!
Fluorescent green mist surged from the vent — filling the control room in seconds.
Jake inhaled a trace.
The Omnitrix screamed.
[WARNING: Targeted genetic interference virus detected!]
[DNA core database — forced injection of garbled code segments!]
[Master Control... DISCONNECTED.]
"A system virus?"
BOOM!!!
The base shook. Tables overturned. The Kree main battery had opened fire on the energy shield — deadly ripples spreading across the barrier's surface.
"Outer Gate 3 is BREACHED! Kree infantry inside!" Gwen pulled on her Ghost-Spider mask and web-launched to the ceiling.
"I'll handle it."
Fleet at the door. No time for subtlety. Jake needed Way Big — hundred-meter cosmic giant, absolute size suppression.
One thought. "Way Big!"
Whoosh!
Garbled red-and-green light exploded.
No giant appeared.
Jake's body twisted — bones cracking, muscles tearing in wrong directions.
The light faded.
Gwen stared.
"What... is THAT?"
Jake's left side had ballooned to three meters — two thick red arms, iron-hard skin. The left half of Four Arms.
His right side was still human. Normal height. Normal arm. Normal leg. His entire body tilted violently to the right under the asymmetric mass.
A demi-beast. A genetic jam.
"Master Control is offline. The virus is scrambling the gene reads — the dial can't lock a single chain." Jake gritted his teeth, exhaling green-tinged air.
BANG!
The alloy door burst open. Ten Kree armored soldiers. Energy rifles up.
"Plumbers leader — SPOTTED! FIRE!"
Blue plasma raked the room.
"DOWN!" Gwen webbed two agents to the ceiling.
Jake couldn't move properly. Forced his will into a transformation attempt.
"Diamondhead!"
Whoosh!
The red muscle receded — replaced by cyan crystal. But his lower body became black-and-white liquid metal.
Diamondhead upper body. Upgrade lower body.
Lasers sparked off the crystal torso. Jake had no legs — his liquid-metal lower half glided across the floor. He condensed a crystal pickaxe on his right arm and drove it through the lead soldier's chest plate.
CRACK!
Armor shattered. Soldier launched.
The agents returned fire from cover while Jake slid through the enemy formation on a puddle of living metal.
"Heatblast!" Area-of-effect clear—
Whoosh!
The garbled code jumped.
Jake's head became burning magma. His arms became deep-blue ice-crystal wings.
Heatblast head. Big Chill hands.
"BURN!"
He aimed at the Kree soldiers. What came out was freezing frost.
KA-KA-KA!
Three soldiers — instant ice sculptures. The flames on Jake's own head nearly went out from the cold, choking him with black smoke.
"This DAMN virus!"
Ice wings swept the remaining soldiers into the corridor.
Jake glided back to the control room, liquid-metal legs resolving back to human. He dropped to one knee, panting.
Every transformation was a mystery box. Every genetic conflict tore at his body. He couldn't sustain combat like this.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The base trembled harder. Ceiling debris falling. Five thousand ships pouring fire at maximum rate.
"The shield is FAILING!" Gwen shouted. "The gas is still spreading!"
"Physical attacks won't fix a software problem."
Jake knelt. Breathing hard. Thinking harder.
The High Evolutionary. A virus designed specifically for the Omnitrix's genetic database. Scrambling the DNA reads, turning Master Control into a slot machine.
"You want to lock down my genes?"
Jake abandoned mental control entirely. Reached out with his right hand — physical, manual — and gripped the edge of the Omnitrix dial.
Click!
Forced turn. Mechanical. Analog. The most primitive way to operate the most advanced device in the universe.
"If it's a software problem — I'll use the smartest brain in the universe to fix it."
He turned the dial markers manually. Inch by inch. Red and green light fighting for dominance.
"Locking gene: Galvan."
He slammed the dial down.
WHOOSH—!
Blinding light swallowed him whole.
